The Value of Using Sub-Titles in Website Content

Hi Folks,

This is to help those new to creating website content.

As content writers we all know there is much to think about when writing pages or posts for our website.

After researching a subject, it is essential to correctly produce content our readers will enjoy as well as benefit from.

But, not only must the content be correct, it needs to be appealing to the reader.

Think of your own experience on visiting a website for the first time.

You’re researching for information but you have limited time to spend on the internet. Suddenly you see an interesting title. Wow, this is what I’m looking for! You click on a link, and find yourself faced with a wall of closely written text.

I know what my response would be. I would leave the site immediately, and many others would do likewise.

Should you be concerned about this? Absolutely! Not only have you lost a reader, your site’s Bounce rate has suffered a blow!

What You Can Do to Avoid This Happening with Your Website?

The best remedy is to make use of the Sub-titles.

Sub-titles in WordPress are usually referred to as H2 and H3 titles

Used correctly, H2 and H3 titles work like magic in your content.

Not only do they help break up the text, they add interest by indicating to the reader what information can be found in that section of the post or page.

Depending on the length of a page or post, you can expect to use anywhere between 3 to 6 sub-titles. Use more if you need them. For instance, if the content is between 1500 to 2000 words it will require the use of several sub-titles (H2 or H3).

The whole purpose of creating content is to provide a good user experience on your website.

In addition to sub-titles, the use of relevant images will add to the attractiveness of a website post or page.

If you follow this advice, along with including interesting information, visitors will stay longer on your site and enjoy their experience.

This is the start of return visitors to your website.

No problem, Valerie.

Thank you so much Valerie. This is educative and I like your consistency. Can you write for us a blog on how we can be more consistent....I mean more efficient at work/ avoiding procrastination. I would love to learn from your personal experience. Sorry for such a broad ,vague question. Hope you find the core of my problem in there. Have a beautiful day.... Oops! Hope its morning in your country also. It is 7:18 AM in Uganda.

Thank you Ssemanda for your interesting message. I enjoyed reading it and it made me smile at your question. I'm almost certain I understand the core of your problem. Now, whether I have the right answer I will need to give much thought to. But, thanks for providing a topic and I'll see what I can do, within the next few days.
It's not morning here, but that doesn't matter. I appreciate your kind thought. It's 5.26 pm on Tuesday 6th March in New Zealand.

Also enjoyed reading your sincere reply. #smiles

That's very nice, Ssemandra. #smiles in return :)

This is something that needs repeating, Valerie.

I often see, even with Wealthy Affiliate posts, paragraphs that are too lengthy. I do believe this is covered - in detail - in course 5 of the Certification.

That lesson made such an impression on me that not only did I go over all my blog posts, I'm very conscious of spacing, even when leaving comments.

I remember Kyle talking about the psychology behind it: that you can have the same amount of information on 2 posts, but the one with limited "white space" will appear to be lengthier than the post that has several paragraphs.

Great reminder, Valerie.

Thanks very much, Veronica.

I think the problem with those new to creating content is information overload. There is so much to learn and absorbing all the details must be a huge task, along with learning WordPress etc.

A big thing about writing this type of post is, those who need to read the information seldom do. But we can only try to help. I'd rather members picked this information up from blog posts, than tell them when offering feedback. However, when I give feedback I won't say that a site is good or great when it isn't, as that is not helpful. On the other hand I feel sure there are some who are in denial!

I agree, Valerie. I would rather have someone tell me 10 things about what needs to be improved on my site than to receive "Your site looks good."

This is the whole point of people writing posts; even though most of what is written is covered in either the Certification or Bootcamp, sometimes it takes reading it from another perspective to actually "get it".

So very true, Veronica.
Thank you :)

Thank you Valerie!

You're welcome, Max.
