The Business of Writing for Online Publication - Your Thoughts Please

Affiliate marketing is something I have enjoyed for several years, and as technology advances so does the need for a higher standard of writing for online publication. My experience is that no longer can I log into my computer with a feeling of enjoyment in writing a blog post for publication in WA or on my websites.

Perfection in all documents whether online or print is great, but how often is that goal achieved!

So, What Am I To Do?

I have no intention to give up affiliate marketing and all that goes with it.

To be truthful, I'm seeking your feedback or recommendation to help me come up with the right decision regarding the value of subscribing to premium content creation systems, Grammarly in particular.

Prior to the advent of WA Site Content, I used Microsoft Word to produce all online content.

When WA Site Content became available, that was the platform I used until approximately 18 months ago when I subscribed to Grammarly Premium which requires a quite hefty fee, in my opinion.

Is the Value Gained Worth the Expense?

Since first subscribing to Grammarly Premium I have considered it to be of value as I do have the habit of writing in a passive voice. Grammarly is of help with correcting the content they see as a fault. But, the strange thing is that Grammarly and Yoast do not agree. So that is another quandary and I choose to ignore it. If I were to please both programmes I would never get any content published.

During the past eighteen months when using the Grammarly Premium platform, I've enjoyed writing but at the cost of more than $80US quarterly, I'm not able to convince myself that the value is there.

I do realize that the decision of whether to resubscribe in two days time is mine, but the opinion of WA members who have experience with Grammarly would be helpful.

Best Wishes,

Valerie, I believe you have gotten some useful responses. My little contribution is that your decision after all said and done, will be or should be determined by the psychological and economic logic of some of these supplementary programs. Because some of them can be addictive, and can tamper with ones self confidence over time.
Have a blessed weekend!

Thanks very much, Sara. I appreciate your response. It is true that some programmes can be addictive. For years I created content to a good standard and didn't worry about the need to improve it. It seems I may have got carried away by the promotion of other programmes - may be 'shiny objects'. I have decided to go with the next 3-month Grammarly Premium subscription and review its worthiness at the end of that period.
Thanks again. And, you have a blessed weekend, too.

Valerie,

I have never subscribed to any of those yet, and likely never will. Perfection is an illusion! Just be yourself in your writing and proofread a few times, then put it out there!

At a later date is you notice a mistake, correct it. It is the same for my e-books! I can re-read a manuscript seven times, and I will make changes seven times. At some point, you must put it out there and move onto the next project, or you will suffer paralysis by analysis!

There is truly no right or wrong answer! People will love your posts / books, and still others will not--no matter how nice it truly is! That's what makes it great! You will garner support from many, and criticism from many others!

Just my 50 cents worth!

Enjoy your day!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your response. I agree with what you say, particularly with respect to perfection, and the opinions of other people.

My problem is I 'suffer' from an overdose of perfectionism. Hence my lack of regularly producing content.

I've decided to go with Grammarly for the next 3 months and place my focus on producing content. At the end of that 3-month period subscription, I can weigh up the pros and cons, which is something I can't honestly do now.

I appreciate what you call your 50 cents worth. It's much more valuable than that :)

With best wishes,

Valerie

Thank you, Valerie! Good luck with your trial run, my friend!

Keep us all in the loop, please!

Enjoy your day!

Jeff

I'll report back near the end of the new quarter, starting today.

Thanks Jeff.

And, you enjoy your day too :)

Valerie

Awesome, Valerie! I can't wait! I hope your weekend has been great so far!

Jeff

It's all a matter of trial and error. You've been using both these aids for a while now and before that you didn't use any. Can you remember what results you got with your posts and content with each of them?
As you say, the two apps don't agree, so that tells me that whatever you do you are going to appeal to some and not to others.
If you would like to reduce your outgoings, maybe just use the free versions. They will give you the timbre and rhythm of your work and maybe inspire you to their idea of good content.

Thanks, Anne for your response. I have been using Yoast for the past ten years and Grammarly Premium for a little more than a year. However, I'm not criticising either programme, they are what they are. I've decided to let the Grammarly 3-months renewal go through tomorrow and review the situation at the end of that period.

👍

Hi Valerie. I use the free version of Gramnarly and agree with Hugh’s point. When using Gramnarly premium, have you noticed a difference in responses or ranking?
:-)
Richard

Hi Richard, thanks for your response. It's true what Hugh says and my problem has been caused by myself. I have not been creating anywhere near the amount of content required to be successful. It's not that I don't know how, as I've been successful in the past but circumstances have caused a decline in my efforts to write for my websites.

I am very grateful to you and other members who have responded to my post as this has helped me to realize that it's not Grammarly at fault. It's a case of being my own worst enemy!

Hi Valerie I have not used Grammarly however one of my decision factors is whether the Premium helps my conversion rate and I can attribute its use to an increase in income. Once the benefit outweighs the cost and should increasingly do so then it may just be something to invest in, given that content creation is at the bedrock of what we do.

Hugh

Hi Hugh, thanks very much for your response. It's true what you say about the benefit outweighing the cost. My problem with Grammarly is that I haven't been producing regular content. Therefore, it's not Grammarly at fault. The problem is one I have generated myself.

It's really good to receive your input, and that of others, as it brings me to my senses. I just need to get on with what affiliate marketing requires to be successful!

Sounds like you welcomed a gentle kick in the butt there Valerie lol. Wishing you the best on your writing.
Hugh

It seems so!
Thanks Hugh.
