Locked Out of My Website!

How did I come to be locked out of one of my websites?

The website is hosted at WA and my access has always been easily available.

But, a short while ago I found that the password was not relevant. I had not changed i!. It is one provided by WA of which I keep a copy.

So believing that I must have overlooked renewing the domain, I did some investigation only to find I had been scammed.

This is not a particularly serious situation because I can log on to the site through WA. And, once again, save the password.

However, I regularly receive scam emails addressed to this website. I don't know how these scammers access my email address.

I'm wondering if other WA members have similar experiences.

Hope you have got that sorted Valerie, that can be so annoying when that kind of stuff happens.

A timely reminder to change those passwords, I am a shocker when it comes to that. In the name of speed and ease of access it can be easy to take short cuts.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Alex

Very true. It certainly was a timely reminder, or probably an overdue reminder to change my passwords.

When everything runs smoothing I'm completely complacent. It's a very different feeling when an intruder enters my realm.

Just another lesson learned!

Many thanks for your comment, Alex.

I don't know why exactly you are locked out of your website. Even though I can login through my W.A. platform, a password is not necessary to save. I always use the random password given by W.A.
I think it is better and safe that way. But if you think that scammers are accessing your e-mail address, then you probably need a strong computer virus protection to see if someone has a hold on your IP address. They could be tracking what you're doing.
If you can, you might want to unplug your WiFi and modem for the for an 5-10 minutes. This will help change the IP address. I always unplug both of these during the night. It is effective that way. May this be of any help. All the best.

Thanks for your response, John. I do have strong computer virus protection which I renew annually.
Not being able to access my website was definitely a scam as I received a very lengthy 'document' written in typical scam mode. I immediately sent it to Trash for future reference, should I need it.

Access to my site through the WA platform is not a problem, it's just that I preferred to have alternative access to a password rather than having to log in to WA each time I want to access the website.

Thanks for the advice regarding the WiFi and modem. I appreciate it and will take that action.

Scammers can access through your Wordpress form that goes into your email, is that what you get? In mine scammers access through WP form and it gets to my email address when I sign up in WP for my avatar name I think that’s what’s called. It’s almost one am here. I am half sleepy. But wanted to respond.

Anyway, In the affiliate disclosure page is your domain address on there that has an email address? With some coding experience people can hack into other websites, the only way to prevent that is to use a password that makes it virtually impossible for coders to see it. That why most prefer VPNs for that.

Are you able to get back in after changing PW?

Thanks, Brenda for your response. My apologies for taking so long to answer. I haven't had the opportunity to look carefully at your comment. It seems you've given some good advice. It's late Sunday evening now. Tomorrow morning I will look at this in detail.

Good Morning Valerie,

That is a nasty experience I can imagine. It has not happened to me yet. Just imagine we would have our websites hosted with a less efficient SiteSupport, there would be no end to our trouble. When your website is hacked, what do those hackers do with it?
There are many things that remain a mystery to me.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Good evening, Taetske,

Thanks for your message and my apologies for the delay in responding. My timing with the post was not good, and today has flown by.

How scammers do what they do, I don't know. I thought I had all the protection I needed!

Brenda has given some good advice which I will look at tomorrow.

Sending best wishes to you.

Valerie

Thank you for sharing Valerie. We all have to be careful Huh? Sounds like the scammer changed your password? Wow! That is scary kind of. Hope you are able to fix quickly with the help of Site Support Team.
All the best to you,
Evelyn

Thanks very much, Evelyn for your message.
All is well now. But, as you said - it is scary when discovering a scammer has accessed one's property.

All the best, and enjoy your weekend.
Valerie

You’re welcome and you too, have a great weekend!

Evelyn
