Do You Know the Value of Your Website?

A surprising experience!

Occasionally, when researching online I'll come across a website that is up for sale. What procedure the owner is following to make the sale, I have no idea.

Recently, I've been giving some thought to selling one of my websites. Having no idea how to go about a sale, I looked online to find a reputable business that would provide information such as I'm interested in.

Rather than waste time, I chose Go Daddy. From what I could gather Go Daddy places value on a domain, rather than the website.

So, I decided to explore the value of all my domains which include 4 websites plus 3 domains without content.

Wow, how surprised I was to find that the domain of a pitifully small website was worth greater than one-thousand dollars.

Another domain of a website I've been working on for very many years has a value of less $500...!!

The domain of my name is worth a similar figure to my long-lived-much-loved website.

I am astounded and confused.

I would be interested to learn from members who have sold domains and/or websites, whether their sale has been for a website, or for a domain with a website attached.

Have a great day.

Hi Valerie,

If you are looking to sell a website, you may find this training useful. With Go daddy appraisals it can be a bit of a lolly scamble.

When it comes to valuations, some are worth heaps and some no value at all. It can be somewhat of a mystery. At the end of the day they are always worth what someone is willing to pay.

I see many in the community claiming that they have domains worth X dollars, on paper they may be, what counts is money in a Pay Pal account.

Learning what works and what doesn't can be like anything online, takes time, one of the keys can be to learn what will be valuable and what is not worth the effort.

A website sold has value, like selling anything, trading domain names and domains with a website associated can be a business in it's self.

Thank you for sharing Valerie,

Following this post.

Just on an aside, currently there are 125,000 nz., and .co.nz domain names that have expired and or deleted that are on the market for purchase. That is interesting.

Alex.

Thanks for your response, Alex.

What really intrigued me was my visit to Go Daddy resulted in what they were prepared to share, being the value of a Domain rather than what a website is worth.

I'm not seriously thinking of selling a website at this stage of my journey. But, it's a subject that appears occasionally so I thought I get some knowledge I can file for the future.

What an amazing number of nz. and co.nz expired domains. It seems those 'retired' owners have not heard of WA!!

Valerie

That is awesome Valerie perhaps not, it would certainly help many when it comes to creating that online presence.
I was amazed myself.

I think when it comes to selling that website prepping can be key.

Creating and selling starter sites, can be lucrative given the current landscape.

I didn't realise GoDaddy has that facility, makes for interesting reading. One at 2.5k and one just under 1k. I guess it's all down to whether someone is prepared to pay the valuation price.

It appears that GoDaddy has a 'big' thing about domain names. Earlier this week I was looking to purchase another domain. It was one of those days when I had the grand idea of starting a new website. Well, I did make the purchase but not sure when a new website will eventuate!

Anyway, on starting the search for a new domain I landed on GoDaddy. It was quite an experience to see how they value domains. For instance, they place value on individual words within a domain name.

With that experience, I should not have been surprised at what they valued the domains I own. But, thought it worth sharing.

I am glad you did Valerie, it certainly put an extra spring in my step.😁

Oh... that's so nice, Twack. Thank you. 😊

You are very welcome.

Two websites that I know of that places a higher value than the sites you mentioned. Flippa and EmpireFlippers. Try them and see if you get a better value. Nathaniel site talks about that. Check out his One More Cup Of Coffee blog. He mentions others Motion Invest, BuySell Empire, and FE international the blog is titled, “6 Different Flippa Alternatives.” His site is so full of information for affiliate marketers. Best wishes to you.

Thanks very much Brenda. Your comment is most helpful. Nathaniel's site that you mention is extremely helpful but I didn't think about checking to see if there was relevant content. I will certainly do that, probably tomorrow as it's almost evening here. I enjoy working in the evening when it's summer time, but not at present due to the very cold weather we're experiencing.
Sending best wishes to you, too :)

Yeah, its your winter in NZ. We are in our hot summer. Extreme heat and fires. Sure thing, always happy to help when I can.

Interesting -- I will be watching to see what you learn.

Thanks Fran. It could be interesting.

Brenda gave me some good advice which I will follow tomorrow.

It is a Great feeling, Valerie! I have a few est. $1k plus domains!

Jeff

Well done, Jeff. That's great :)

It is pretty easy to do, Valerie, although, mine just may be beginner's luck!😎
