Dealing With Comment Dates After Updating Old Posts
Hi Folks,
On my affiliate marketing site I have several posts that need updating.
Early this year I installed a plugin that displayed ‘last publication date’ but I deleted it after a while because I just didn’t like the look of what the plugin produced.
Then, I tried removing published dates completely, but a member raised the point of being honest with our readers.
Today I watched the replay of Jay’s Webinar about Giving Old Content a new SEO Life. Of course, the information is invaluable and I intend using Jay’s method.
However, that still leaves the question of the date a comment was published on a post, and how to deal with the fact they are dated prior to publication of the updated post.
I would appreciate receiving your thoughts, ideas or suggestions.
Thank you.
Valerie

To me, I'd like that the date when I created that post will remain even after updating.
It will remind me how long I've been and how deep my thoughts are during those times if not on the other side.
Thank you Jimmy. I do agree with you but it's not that easy to implement both dates. Well, it is easy, but not attractive.
I like your new Profile image :)
Thank you for this interesting post, Valerie
An alert reader may think this is strange. Wouldn't it be better if the original publishing date still would be visible plus the update date?
I agree with you Pernilla. That's what I would like, but the plugin I used for that purpose provided 'chunky' text which was unattractive. It is an ongoing problem to me. No doubt some good css code might fix it, but it could break my site if I made an error.
Thanks so much for your input, Pernilla. I greatly appreciate it.
Hi, Thank you for bringing this subject up. It is a new input for me. Yes honesty is very important . Since I am only a beginner I cannot give any help but wish that some other more experienced member will help you out.
Much success to you.

I'm not sure what the best way to deal with that is but I can tell you I've noticed a lot of Kyle's content here on wealthy affiliate says it was published in 2017 but has comments from 3 or 4 years ago so it seems like they don't worry about the old comments.
Thank you for this, Jared.
I wondered if that might be the case. It seems strange, but if it works for our Leaders, no doubt it will work for those if us you are less knowledgeable.

To me, I like the idea of keeping the publish date! If you are still writing content for that niche, it proves how much you are interested in it, and how you can be the "hub" for that niche.
Maybe you could write follow up posts to update old content? Like a compare and contrast type post? I think this could help transparency
Thank you Gabriella for your suggestion. I'll do some research on that idea.
