Okay, folks – Here I go, taking off on my goal of publishing 23 posts within 27 days.

Firstly, my sincere thanks to those members who have already expressed their support.

Some may think I’m a little crazy but over the past 18¼ years since I lost my husband I’ve done some quite challenging things. Some of those have been particularly challenging. Most of my activity in the 2000s has been out of character as my husband was a sensible and wise man and, of course, I followed suit. Not to mention I had always been quiet and introverted rather than outgoing.

Moving on, when experiencing enormous life challenges, as happened for me in the year 2000, one needs to find new roads to travel. I believe this is particularly so when the family has already flown the nest as the last thing I would want is to be a burden on the younger generation. Rather than that, I’ve caused their hair to stand on end at times! Oh well, what’s life if you can’t have some fun!.

So, I’m not telling you my story so as to pat myself on my back. That is not my nature. The reason for this post is I hope that my experiences could be of help to someone.

One of my favourite sayings and beliefs is: If just part of my story can help one person then it is worthwhile sharing.

A NEW EXPERIENCE
In 2006 I was introduced to multilevel marketing. I had no previous knowledge of MML and in spite of my attempts to succeed, I did not achieve success. The constant pressure on asking friends and acquaintances, plus making cold calls, was not for me. However, I did give it my best shot and although I lost acquaintance contacts on the way, I did have some experiences that left me with happy memories, and a greater strength of mind.

During 2006/07 I attended three boot camps all related to the MML program. Prior to the first attendance, I had no idea of what a boot camp was but went along for the ride!

Each boot camp I attended was amazing, but particularly the first one. At this event, to my shock and horror, I found that we were expected to climb vertical poles, walk along horizontal poles and other activities I can no longer recall.

GOING UP IN THE WORLD
However, I do recall abseiling. How could I forget it! To this day, I can remember climbing the ladder and a feeling I was about to expire. However, when arriving on the platform at the top of the ladder, I recovered my breath and after a few minutes abseiled down to the ground. That downward part was amazing and I would have loved to do it again. Of course, during the entire time of abseiling each member of the group cheered one another along, which helped generate the required energy.

TAKING TO THE STAGE
At one of the boot camps a few of us were chosen to give a talk the next morning, after breakfast. I was one chosen, therefore I slept very little that night as my mind was going over, and over, and over again on what I could say, never having previously been a speaker.

When the new day dawned and I joined the crowd for breakfast, the group leader said quietly to me – You don’t have to give this talk. Little did she know the sleep I’d lost and the insult I felt by her remark. Did she not have confidence in my ability!

However, the time arrived for me to be called to the stage. With a very positive mind I delivered my talk and entertained the audience with humour here and there. The outcome was, I received a standing ovation.

SO, HOW CAN THIS EXPERIENCE HELP YOU?
That experience of mine is proof that anyone can tell their story. They can talk about their own story; they can put their story in writing. Then, they can build a website around their story, and by doing so, they are helping other people some of whom will create their own website and earn an income from it.

I am absolutely comfortable in telling you that I was not young when I started my company which was a virtual secretarial business.

Somebody said to me one day at a one-to-one business meeting - "Why are you doing this, you are no spring chick!"

Ha, ha! Do we need to be a spring chick? I had more than 30 years of administration experience, commencing as a junior short-hand typist right through to 17 years administration officer at a boarding school. For the last few years, I was responsible for the annual accounts which were government audited, and passed with flying colours!

I DON'T ALLOW OTHERS TO PUT ME DOWN
Why would I not use my expertise and experience to continue enjoying life, rather than doing little and being dependent on my family? That is not for me!

Being a member of Wealthy Affiliate is amazing. I am so inspired by the content created by members, both new to affiliate marketing as well as those with many years experience.

There is nothing else on the internet that can get anywhere near Wealthy Affiliate. I’ve been here going on 4 years and I have no intention of leaving in the foreseeable future, or beyond that. My time will come to leave and perhaps give up affiliate marketing, but for now, I'm far from that time.

My future posts will not include so much about me. There will be some about other achievements if I feel it appropriate, but the intention is to provide information to help you with your online journey.

If you’ve read this far, my sincere thanks to you.

With best wishes,

What a brilliant post, which I enjoyed reading a lot, many of us will relate to it in some way and as far as WA goes, we'll you are right there is nothing to touch it at all for all the benefits it brings and gives and those of us who have been around a bit know that for a fact

Glad you are enjoying life here Valerie

Thank you so much, Dave, for your comment. It is great to know you read my post and were okay with it. That is the first time I've talked about myself to such an extent online and was a little apprehensive after publishing. So it's really good to receive your reassuring comment :)

Really enjoyed your story, we get one life and we need to enjoy it and make the most of opportunities, even when my children used to say to me "why could we not have a normal mum " whats normal this is because I will just face challenges, make changes and keep learning, it will either work or it won't the process always teaches us something, wish you continued success in all you do

Thank you, Katie. I love your attitude and I absolutely agree with 'it will either work or it won't'. One thing that seemed to be instilled in my brain when I was young and has stayed with me was, hearing my mother often say 'God loves a trier'. I'm sure your children are blessed with a wonderfully normal mum.
All the best to you Katie. I will follow you now and look forward to reading your WA posts. Well, at least some of them! :)

My mother always told me the same thing, I have not been too active as I suffered a stroke so I am still in the recovery process, it had a big impact on my eyes so reading and seeing is something that challenges me, however I am making progress and that is all that matters , take care have a good week

I am so sorry to learn about your health. Your electronic screen will not be a good place to spend much time at, for the present. I have a cataract that is causing some difficulties while reading either a screen or hard copy. Just take it easy and give yourself time to heal. You have a good week, too.

I will thank you, hope your eyes do better as well

Thank you, Katie.

Valerie
The countdown has begun with a wonderful and inspiring article. I am anxious to read the next installment of your challenge.

I think your readers (at least I sure do) enjoy learning about you. I find when I write about me I learn thinks about myself that did not realize.

Thank you for letting me know you better.

Best wishes toward a celebration in 26 days.

Barry

Hi Barry,
Thanks very much for responding to my first post of this challenge I set.

I've never been one to talk about myself publicly, so that was a first time experience for me.

I do have more to say about my experiences that could be interesting and hopefully helpful, but my thinking is to include these spasmodically so as to avoid being too much about me.

The decision to do this challenge was a spur of the moment one when I suddenly realized the possibility of reaching 300 posts within this month. So there's been no specific planning. It's all in my mind at present. Here's hoping it goes well. However, if not, I won't punish myself.

My sincere thanks for your support, Barry. I enjoy receiving your comments.

A lovely post and you definitely deserve a pat on the back!
I am inspired reading this Valerie, lots of great point here, that we can take away and learn from.
Looking forward to next 22 posts.

Have a great week

Good Morning Valerie,

This is the first of 23 posts right? well done and am looking forward to the ones who will follow this story.

You did abseiling? dear me, how brave.
Talking in front of an audience is also brave. I know as I have been a tourist guide and had to make speeches.
The best part of your story is where you tell about your family having their hair stand on end. Good for you! They better keep it standing like that as I am sure you will give them more reasons for keeping it that way.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Good Morning to you Taetske,

Thanks so much for commenting on my post.
Well, that's the first one completed. I'm not sure yet what the next one will be. I don't intend to tell too much more about me, although I do have a couple of experiences worthwhile telling, I'll save those for later.

I'm pleased you liked the part about the family's hair. It is still standing that way, I think.

Well, although I greeted good morning it is late evening now, so I'll say farewell, and catch up again another day.

Valerie

What a wonderful post Valerie...you're an inspiration!

Thanks so much, Jane. I am so pleased to read your comment as after publishing I was a little concerned I may have told too much about my life.

You're welcome Valerie. Definitely not too much info. A very interesting read - well balanced.
Have a great day!

Good morning Valerie, so nice to read such a positive post as I ready myself for the day ahead. I was half expecting to hear about your exploits in sky diving or bungee jumping. Maybe they will appear in one your next articles. I like that you have have grasped life by the scruff of the neck and are not apologetic for doing what you want to do with your time. We could all do with a bit more of your spirit. Thank you.

Thank you so much Twack for your comment. I greatly appreciate what you have said. It is seldom that I write about myself, but when I do I get the 'shudders' in case I've said too much. Your words assure me that this post is okay.

Without doubt.

Hi Valerie, I enjoyed the read, thanks for sharing some of your experiences.

So true we can learn so much from the folks that we share the marketing journey with.

Best wishes for your blogging challenge.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks very much for reading my post and for your response.

Now for the next one!! I'll get some sleep before I attempt that!

Cheers,

Valerie

Hi Valerie
I am writing a post tonight about MLM's and then I read this so I might share this link in the article as you have written it so well and I congratulate for grabbing life, my friend.
I had a life-changing moment in 2006 and my life took a new path and along the way, I found WA as well and I love it and what it offers everyone
thank you so much for sharing this tonight
Go well and be amazing as always
Vicki :)

Hi Vicki,
Thank you very much for your kind words, they are very helpful. You are certainly welcome to share the link.
I do see your comments etc in the community but haven't caught up with you this year. I've only just started getting on top of WA and my website matters as I've been busy helping in a family business, which is something I do occasionally.
And then I take on a challenge!! Oh well, I've got to have something to keep me amused!
Best wishes to you Vicki.
Valerie
