Being Thankful for Small Mercies

It’s now Thursday evening in my corner of the world, which is New Zealand as some may know.

Oh, what a week I’ve had and I won’t share the problems, other than to say – who invented Google Assistant and whatever were they thinking of? Well, there’s no need to answer that question. Of course, it is Google who has inflicted such a persistent nuisance on me.

By searching online, it’s clear that Google Assistant is less of an assistant than it is an annoyance. There are others who have similar feelings to how I’m currently feeling about this monstrosity that refuses to leave me alone. It asks what it can do for me. I tell it to go away. All it does is record my words of despair which aren’t meant for the ears of anyone other than Google Assistant.

I’m tearing my hair out. I didn’t invite this thing that calls itself an Assistant. It arrived uninvited. If this goes on for much longer I will be searching online for a wig. Then, if have to buy one I could choose that as a niche for a website. How many affiliate merchants or vendors supply wigs? No doubt, Amazon does.

Anyway, getting back to some sense and sensibility, I am desperate to delete the Google Assistant. I tell it to go away. But I’m wasting my breath.

Searches online reveal that to delete the Assistant, I need to download the Google app to my phone, but it doesn’t download.

This is so important to me as I doubt all my contacts are saved to the phone I’ve been using for a few years. If I can’t save my contacts I will be struggling when I, if ever, manage to get my brand new and beautiful phone active. It is a Samsung Galaxy Note9.

No doubt, all I can do at present is be thankful I for what I do have, even though I may lose my mobile phone contacts. Horrors! I can’t stand the thought of that happening.

There are better times ahead, hopefully!

I hope I never acquire a Google assistant.

Absolutely, Fran. Who needs one. Not one of us, I'm sure of that!

Good afternoon Valerie,

It sounds very frustrating this Assistant you have. I do not know anything about phones and less about modern ones.
I think I will have to count my blessings as my Assistant is one of flesh and blood. ( he has the Note 5)

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Good Morning Taetske,

I do envy you with having a flesh and blood assistant. Google Assistant is abominable as I didn't invite it into my phone. It is an uninvited troublesome guest!

Hopefully, one day not too far in the future, my life will return to normal.

Thanks very much for your message :)

Valerie

Good Morning Valerie,

You know I am quite hopeless with technology stuff, the less the better.
I am afraid I will have to start FB as not having it kind of penalizes your website.
My Assistant is working hard in the vegetable garden and it is looking good, had the first 2 little meals with spinach.
You missed my spring post, here comes the link. Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Google is a pain sometimes. Have you put your contacts in the contact section of Gmail? That's how I back mine up. I know it's labor intensive. I'm at work and can't research any shortcuts to this because I have my first class soon.

But it might be worth spending an hour or two manually putting in your important contacts. Once there, you can connect your phone contacts to your Google contacts by assigning them to a group in the "group" field in your address book in your phone. I don't know if this is clear or not - but maybe Google search organizing and backing up phone contacts on Android - and see what comes up. You have my sympathy - good luck!

Thank you very much Wendy for your advice and help. The hours I've spent on this is agonizing and still haven't moved forward. I will follow your advice including a Google search. Your sympathy is a big help - thanks :)

That sounds so annoying. I hope you get it figured out. I like the suggestion of googling YouTube for a solution. It is usually my first goto when needing tech help LOL.

It certainly is annoying, Liz. I will give YouTube a try today.
Thanks so much for your message.

How very annoying.

Absolutely. Edwin.
Thank you :)

Hi Valerie that is so annoying when stuff like that happens I am on the other end of the spectrum I have spent half the day trying to get voice recognition software to recognize my voice, I have just about lost my voice lol.

Try putting this search query into Youtube,

How to Remove Google Assistant from the Home button on a Samsung Galaxy Note 9

There is a beauty video tutorial which may be helpful, I would put the URL in, but we seem to be in a really silly season here at the moment.

Hope that helps.

Hi Alex, thanks so much for your comment. I'm sorry you are having so much difficulty with getting voice recognition to work for you. I do hope you can solve this problem soon.

Thanks very much for your advice about the Youtube video. I will watch it tomorrow morning. I'm a bit on the weary side now after a day of exasperation.

I agree about the silly season!!

All the best for a solution to voice recognition.

I just switched phones, as well!
Blackberry, again! Tried the Samsung, but I'm used to the extendable keyword, instead of the touchscreen.
I keep my old one charged, as I too, have lost contacts!! Some phone minion stealing them, before transfer, as there is never a pattern of whom they chose to omit!
Google asst? Blackberry asst, first thing I disconnected!! LOL
Barb

A Blackberry sounds great. It's years ago that I had Blackberry phone and of course they would have changed considerably since then. I'm not aware of extendable keyword; something new to me.
I will take the plunge tomorrow and transfer data to my new phone, even though I'm fearful of what will happen with my contacts.
Thanks very much for your comment :)
Valerie

Extendables, are a dying breed, Val.
My first was Motorola, then LG, and now Blackberry is the only company, left that has it. I tape with my thumbnails.
Keep the other charged,:til you're sure!
I found my old one still does work, so it's my emergency phone, now. It hooks up to my wi-fi, so it;s a little computer, while my phone is in use! Nice little surprise!
Barb

❤️

Thank you, Fleeky. That's so nice :)

Have blessed day Valerie...

And, you too Fleeky.
