A Task Almost Completed

Two days ago I published a post about the hassle I was experiencing with Google Assistant’s constant presence on my mobile phone. Two features on this phone had not been working for a few weeks, therefore the need for a new phone as opposed to a costly repair.

The thought of new phone sounds glamorous, but when there is need for a ‘do it yourself’ transfer of data I was fearful of creating more trauma than I was already experiencing.

My main concern was that I couldn’t do anything to save my contacts or other content. I was concerned about photos on the old phone. I didn’t want to lose them. Although not business related, they are valuable to me, personally.

Yesterday, after much research and help from an excellent video on YouTube, I decided to transfer the data, at whatever cost. I could no longer fight that battle with Google Assistant.

I thought I had two options for the transfer. Manual or wireless. However, I found I couldn’t do the transfer manually as the equipment didn’t allow for that.

With a deep breath, or two, I chose the Smart Switch app on both phones. Amazingly, all the data, images, contacts and everything important transferred from one phone to the other. It was so simple.

The only concern arising from the transfer is an app I don’t need. The app was put on the old phone by an assistant when I first took the phone to a mobile store. This was supposed to help. In fact, it was another nuisance because it would sit on top of ‘send’ features etc. It was something I didn’t need.

So, I don’t need this on my new phone, either.

The image is the screen of my new phone. The white arrow points to the unwanted app.

If anyone who sees this image recognizes the app and knows how to delete it, I would most grateful to hear from you.

Please excuse the quality of this image. It took ages to get it as it is!

My thought would be to open your Google "Play Store" application and look to see if you can find that icon/app installed through the Play Store.

- Open Play Store
- Click the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner
- Choose "My apps & games"
- Look for that application image
- If you find it, click on it, and then click "Uninstall"

Let me know if that helps at all

Hi Nick, thanks very much for your message of support.

I have been able to delete the image by following DJ's advice in her comment within this trail.

However, I will note your advice for future reference, should it be necessary.

All the best :)
Valerie

Excellent, glad you got it fixed!

Well done Joy.
Cheers

Thank you, David.

Sorry Valerie, I don't know what that is. I have something similar with my phone on certain pages it pops up. No idea. New phones can be a pain.

Hi Mickey, thanks for your message. This morning I've been able to delete the image which appeared on every page. As you're experiencing a pop up on certain pages, the solution I was given may not be of help for you. However, it is DJ who provided the solution and her comment is within this trail. It could be worthwhile taking a look.

I do hope you can find a solution to rid that pop up from your phone.

Thanks Valerie and DJ. This worked to get rid of my pest too. I sure didn't see the need for it. Thanks a bunch.

I have no idea. I use iPhone XR. This must be an Android phone. I am sorry you're going through needless frustration with your new phone. Hope within time you can resolve the issues.

Thanks very much, Brenda, for your support. I've just been able to delete the image thanks to DJ providing the solution in her comment.

I've seen that image on my friend's Galaxy phone. She doesn't know how to get rid of it either and it is always in the way. I was able to "move" the symbol, but it is still on her screen, just in a different place.

I have an iPhone. It has a tendency to do some strange things from time to time, too!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Hi Karin, thanks for your response.
DJ aka djriver has provided the information I needed. I've been able to delete the image.

You can find DJ's comment within this trail, so as to help your friend.

All the best :)
Valerie

Congrats on updating to your new phone. I have not seen that little image before. Hopefully someone will see it and know what it is?

Hi Liz, thanks so much for your message. I hope you never need that little image on your phone. I've just been able to delete it thanks to DJ response.

Phones can be such problems, yet we need them in life. I have fought the new phone battle here. So far have been given three phones/programs that do not work in our small town. Wonderful!

I'm sorry to learn of your unfortunate experience with phones. They can be so frustrating and time wasters when not functioning correctly. I'm fortunate that DJ has provided the answer I needed.
I'm grateful to you Fran, for your support.

I love it, Valerie!
We both have NEW phones, we didn't need! I have a wonderful, Back-up!
Blackberry Hub,,,supposed to keep my organized, or something!! "How do I get rid of this thing?" ...Problem, solved.
Teach this old dog?...Nah...Not unless I must!
Now, Val, can move on to important ventures!
Barb

I have no idea on this, but I've seen it on my mum's phone before as well. Maybe its an app that comes with the themes?

That's a good though, maybe try to change background theme or something along those lines?

Hi Alston, thanks for your message. If you look at djriver's comment you can find details on how to delete that image for your mother, if she wants to get rid of it. Maybe she finds it helpful and doesn't need it deleted.

Thanks, haven’t heard my mum brought that up. Not sure if she wants to remove it though. :)

I wish you luck in your quest, I have no idea but I am sure that someone on here will do.

Thanks very much, Linda. It's good to hear from you :)
