I'm living in Malaysia and I set up a USA Amazon associates account
At the 'Your Payment Method' step, there are 3 options to choose from:
-Pay me by Amazon. com gift car

Just for starters choose the Amazon gift card because the threshold is only $10. Then you can use the gift card to buy stuff from Amazon. When you have lots of sales you can switch to getting paid by check. People who do not live in USA don't get charged $15 for the checks but the threshold is $100 before you can get paid. I live in Australia so I've chosen the gift card.

That's a relieve, but did you switch from gift card to pay by checks yourself?
I'm worried later I can't switch haha

Yes, you can switch at any time but it will only apply to the following month. There's a little bit of a time delay.

Marion, there are others from Australia here and they use Payoneer, Josh is one, he recommended it to me. It works perfect.

'If you are completing the information as an individual, use the information that appears on your tax return.'

In the sentence above, what does tax return means? Is it a receipt, a book ...?
I should have one myself right?
I went google image and it makes no sense haha
All it gave is alot of words and number
Basically, the sentence is telling me to use the name that appears on my tax return. And that name should be the same as my IC right?
And after that they've given me another problem 'intermediary status'.

Select your intermediary status under Chapter 3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Below are the Chapter 3 status definitions per the IRS Form W-8IMY Instructions –

Nonqualified Intermediary – A nonqualified intermediary is any intermediary that is not a U.S. person and that is not a qualified intermediary.

Nonwithholding Foreign Partnership, Simple Trust, or Grantor Trust – A nonwithholding foreign partnership is any foreign partnership other than a withholding foreign partnership. A nonwithholding foreign simple trust is any foreign simple trust that is not a withholding foreign trust. A nonwithholding foreign grantor trust is any foreign grantor trust that is not a withholding foreign trust.

Qualified Intermediary – A qualified intermediary is a person that is a party to a withholding agreement with the IRS, as described in IRS Regulations section 1.1441-1(e)(5)(iii) and meets the qualifications outlined in the IRS instructions to Form W-8IMY.

Territory Financial Institution – The term territory financial institution means a financial institution that is incorporated or organized under the laws of any U.S. territory.

U.S. Branch – A U.S. Branch treated as a U.S. person means a U.S. branch of a participating foreign financial institution (FFI), registered deemed-compliant FFI, or non-financial foreign entity (NFFE) that is treated as a U.S. person under IRS Regulations section 1.1441-1(b)(2)(iv)(A).

Withholding Foreign Partnership (WP) or Withholding Foreign Trust – a WP or WT is a foreign partnership or foreign simple or grantor trust that has entered into a withholding agreement with the IRS in which it agrees to assume primary withholding responsibility for purposes of Internal Revenue Code Chapter 4 and under IRS sections 1441 and 1442 for all payments that are made to its partners, beneficiaries, or owners, except as otherwise provided in the withholding agreement.

I don't know which to choose.

@Valen as you are not a US citizen you need to fill out a different form for tax. I don't remember the name of the form but it is definitely for foreign residents not US residents. If you are asked for your tax details on the form then you would use your own name and the number your taxation office has given you for paying your income tax.

@jvranjes There are only 3 methods to choose from when applying for Amazon. Telling Valen about another method which is not one of those options is just adding to his confusion.

Marion, what I suggested is one of those they support: payment to bank account in US. So you will have to tell me how this adds to confusion.

Because he is NOT based in USA: "Pay me by direct deposit (United States Based Associates Only)"

Direct deposit is not an option on the sign up page for non-USA based associates.

He does NOT have to be based in USA. The bank account has to be based there, Amazon does not care who the owner of the account is. This is why people use Payoneer. This is all legal and I know many who use it.

I was using checks and this is 19th century practice. Later I switched to Payoneer which is both cheaper and faster. Amazon knows very well which account it is.

Sooner or later this person will switch to this payment method, so I was trying to help him to avoid problems which I have passed in the beginning.

So I reject the statement that I make confusion.

Thanks for all the tips, I'll be back in a year or six month or...as
school's starting again, need to focus on study haha
Just so you guys know, I'm ambitious.
No hard feelings guys as I can see there're some conflicts going on between...
Chill guys, happy new year and see ya!

Do you still use the gift card option? Can you buy all kind of items with that or is restricted to few ones?
I'm in France so I guess I will try payoneer in the future but for now maybe the gift card is easier

Use Payoneer, this is excellent and reliable service. I am using it for the same purpose. Cannot see anything better. Forget checks.

So you used Payoneer to get paid but using it for Amazon?

At the moment, Amazon are paying using Payoneer for those using Marketplace but not Affiliates. http://d.pr/YYeW

The problem with using Payoneer as a non-resident affiliate is that Amazon will mistakenly declare affiliates as being resident in the USA for tax purposes.

You are therefore breaching Amazon's T&Cs; because as they clearly state, direct transfer is for "US based associates only".

No I did not used it. I am using it right now, and so do many others.

Have no idea what RICH is talking about, this is completely legal way and there are no problems at all. It is certainly not true that they do not use it for affiliates. There is no breaching of anything.

If you check the sign up procedure (see screenshot) Amazon makes it perfectly clear that direct deposit is for US-Based Associates ONLY.

If you are an international affiliate you must use checks or gift cards.

I suggest you contact Amazon Associates which is what I did, who have told me that anyone caught circumventing this will lose their Amazon affiliation.

"Amazon Associates allows people to be paid by direct deposit to their nominated bank accounts only if they and their bank are based within the United States."

https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/topic/t35

I was told that non USA citizen don't need to give TAX info but amazon asked for mine.
After choosing the first option or the third one they they ask for my tax info
What is going on?

Exactly so, my bank is based in US, This is the account of Payoneer to which my money is transferred, and they then transfer it to my local bank, all legal and clear. You are causing confusion without reason.

No, as I quoted, after checking with Amazon themselves, you also have to be resident in the USA, not just have an American bank account.

"Amazon Associates allows people to be paid by direct deposit to their nominated bank accounts only if they AND their bank are based within the United States."

https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/topic/t35

The only one causing confusion is you, by risking members international Amazon Associates affiliation by encouraging them to try this "trick".

If you wish to verify the above, please do what I did, and call Amazon yourself.

Do as you wish, I have nothing else to say.

I think payoneer is a great option. Do they charge any fee when you withdraw the money?

Everybody will charge you a fee.

You will have to use Check, and as you're outside the USA and cannot use Direct Transfer, Amazon will waive the $15 fee.

https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/topic/t3/a2

meaning 'check' is my only option and they will deduct $15 when sending a check to my 'house'?

No, because you can't use Direct Transfer, Amazon will not charge you the normal $15 for a check.

so they will charge more or something like that if I'm not USA citizen? Is that what you're trying to say?

No, they will charge you less!
