An evolving Identity? - A personal crisis?

Hi! My Dear WA Partners and Friends,

Just to drop a long note to set a tone of change and reinforce my belonging.

Let us start off in addressing personal identity,

Identity is the way to tell the world who you are at a moment in a location and under a circumstance. The most common fixed ways of identity is date of birth, surname, and given name, which are registered at birth with additional personal code or number added to your public file for social administrative use. Thereby all the people are in the right form to exist and live in a said society.

However, not all these tags be welcome over the time and location according to personal perception about where, what, and who they are. Hence seeking some change or modification in identity takes place among people to make them feel more comfortable for where, what, and who they are. Among these personal tags, changing or adding a given name is the easiest way to do and what most commonly happens.

Likewise, such creeping mental nudge to change who you are has happened to me also. At birth, I was given Chin-Ti Lin, meaning golden soil bamboo in Taiwanese or mandarin, due to the family poverty so my parent wished to have some gold for the family. But, I could tell if my name had brought any fortune or made any difference in family survival and growth over the decades or not, but I do know my parent worked very hard like hogs or dogs and I have been proud of them for being able to raise and educate me as a medical doctor (M.D.).

In one year after entering the U. S. and over the past four decades, I have sensed there has been a course of transitional change in perceiving social comfort, personal security, social inequality, etc. In seeking how to lessen and divert these mental uneasiness, I then tapped on modifying my name so to recollect some degree of social comfort by stressing the sense of belonging. Then I added James as the name more sounding like I were born in the America or at least raised up here despite still retaining my strong native accent and tongue in spitting out so-called broken English. I have felt comfortable with this late given name - James for some 30 years. Later,...

Through slowly establishing what I have been with eventually becoming a university-trained, board-certified urologist, and practicing urology for 37 years, my perception for my identity has slowly changed and evolved along those of the whole society and the world which was powered by digitization and globalization. In turn, slowly, social segregation decreases but will never disappear entirely.

After joining Wealthy Affiliate, through the course of training and community interaction, I have noticed, after all, the fairness and transparency of the work clearly existing inside WA community, within which any members will be fairly treated as long as the open rules are followed and hard work is entered, an achievement can be assured.

This scenario of ascending to ambassadorship is open to grab in contract with that inside the established bureaucracy where political correctness oftentimes precedes the truth and facts of life. So, I decided to live a higher degree of freedom for myself and quickly wondered why I have to alter my name to feed my mental pleasure. As a result, I decided to restore or resurrect my name to the original one as Chin-Ti or Chin. Now, here, I am, I am Chin-Ti or Chin. I liked to use this long-drawing post to practice my English and to set who I am.

Of note, please do not label me as a narcissist for so much personal talk, but I just want to stress what WA has done and prevailed in paving the road of openness and fairness for all willing souls without much dust of political correctness.

At the end, let us work hard with perseverance to embrace the emerging success under the wings of the Wealthy Affiliate. My potential success should come from your timely supporting hands; please hold me up to run with you.

Happy Holidays,

Chin-Ti Lin, M.D.

I really like you site, you have come a long way in a short time.
One thing I noted is that the blue links on the blue background are hard to read., Perhaps change them to a different coluor.
Great work.

Hi! Alexander,
I do appreciate your honest suggestion and I will make an adjustment soon. Please check and critique it again whenever your time allows, and I appreciate your help.

Best to health and success,

Thanks for sharing, Chin!

You have achieved a lot already in your life, and it's inspiring that the openness and transparency of the community here has led to a restoration (or re-evaluation) of your identity.

I am beginning to see that personalities and identities are fluid... They are not set in stone, and we shouldn't let external circumstances define us. Or mindsets instilled throughout our upbringing, due to birthplace, race, age etc.

We can always redefine ourselves by instilling new habits, new behaviors and new mindsets that serve us instead of holding on to limiting beliefs. In that sense, we are constantly evolving - we are not the same person we were 5 years ago or even 5 months ago.

Ps. I really enjoyed your writing style and use of the English language :)

Hi! Nicky,
How are the things of life for you there? One thing for sure is you are a dynamic person exploring what the existing evolving world could be doing for us. Hence, you are a great survivor; congratulations-a-million.

I would also like to thank and appreciate you for taking time to positively comment on the post. As to English, it is my 3rd language after Taiwanese and mandarin. So, I am flattered. Nonetheless, I appreciate your support.

Keep in touch for more mutual support and help so we can plod along the tough road of Online marketing.

Happy Holidays,

Chin

In Hawai‘i, if we live here long enough, we learn to honor our heritage while respecting the culture of others. Your given name honors your heritage and your parents. Welcome Chin-Ti

Thanks and nice for sharing how Hawaii functions there. Chin-ti

Hello, Chin, Barb!
Thank you starting at the beginning...
"The question of how one child, responds within the family dynamics!..Heritage... But, birthdate..general God, given spirit!
When one is gently, or tossed, ousted!
Time, effect on the dynamics!...mom dad, happy...for awhile,
Enter other child..?? To fix, what' inherently , broken..first. Child in loving environment..last...shipwreck, emminate!!
Regarded, the spirit will seek, what is necessary for that survival...Perhaps, and aunt grandma...grandfather, or very loving friends...Child/adult has only one choice, as it's out one's control..
Accept...this is the pits...find something better, for wallow as a victim... Battered women...could example...fear of leaving is harder than the possibility of escape...OOoh
So, enter alcohol, drugs...whstever escape from the pain..Itk never about the medication, but what the medication is hiding
Alcohol and drugs...obvious!!...what the source of the pain..discover, the illusion...and Pull up your Big Girl, Patties and move, on!! A little 12 step humor!
I use chart for the 4th step..beats a hundred sessions, with the shrink, talking your drama. But look at this ..ugh! Continue or change, many waltz..right on out to meet "friends." ?
At, the nearest bar! Missing the unification of opposites, earned by looking at self...straight as a mirror!
Thank, for good concrete information...fluff, Kum-ba-ya, after the storm and ready to regroup, pick the pieces, and grow, in an opposite direction..or maybe Willing to try another way.
Thank, for listening, Chin! much, appreciated!

I enjoyed reading your response bringing a lot of inspirations to grow with.

It's easier to write and pronounce Lin. I don't know which is the surname. We Filipinos write and call the given name first before the surname.

How is the thing going? Renal US is ready for review, and clinically, how do you feel?

Oh! My last name (surname) is Lin (meaning bamboo) and the given name is Chin-Ti (meaning gold soil). So, just use Chin-Ti or Chin.

We will be receiving the physical examination result today. I will update you as soon as I get hold of that.

BTW... Just noticed you were top 50, great job. Jay

Chin,

Great post!! I'm touched how you were serious and humorous when speaking about your parents. We need to be comfortable with who and what we are and PC needs to be tossed. have a great weekend. Jay
