Hey Bud, it's been awhile! Glad to hear you're still working on your site and I hope it's doing well for you.
That being said, I recommend avoiding backlinking of anykind with the exception of making your own videos (youtube) and linking them to your site.
Backlinks generally get a bad rep nowadays and this is why WA's teaching doesn't cover it. I'd stay away from them and focus on building up content.

The type face on the list appears washed out. How to darken or make bold?
I reckon that some coding will be involved but unfortunately I would not be able to help. I your theme did not come with support included, maybe you can think of changing for another one. In my opinion, it is better to find the adequate help with a payed theme than keep getting regularly stuck with a free one.

Hi Uncle Bud, Just to clarify what your column is about
You can not delete this column but you can choose to display it or not display it on certain pages.
When you go to create a page you will see on the left of the dashboard a box called Page Attributes
Look down below where it says "Parent" and you will see a box called "Template" Here you will be presented with a drop down menu and you can choose - Default template = show side bar or One column no side bar = do not display side bar
You can choose to display the side bar on individual pages, so some pages will display it and some will not, as you choose
Its probably best to at least have the side bar on your home page and your about me and contact page as well as your legal pages

Yes you can remove that by going into your Dashboard --> Widgets.
Then in the widgets, there will be several columns. The one on the right hand side is what's on your page. There you can remove whichever widgets you want by clicking and dragging them into the left hand box.

Uncle Bud, that column is called a sidebar. Under appearance --> widgets ... you can adjust what appears in your sidebar. You can add and remove anything you like from the sidebar.
That column is a "SIDEBAR". You might have seen that most websites got one. If you want to publish something in your website that you want your viewers to read distraction free, then you can remove them under Widgets settings in appearance. But doing that will entirely remove the sidebar from your website. So choose wisely. It is ok to keep them under most circumstances.
