To run or not to run is not a question

I have had the biggest fight with myself this morning!

Let me back this story up.

Last week I managed 3 runs on the four days I was in Sydney. But this week was a disaster!

Monday I was still up in the mountains and as I have said before I don't run up there, have you seen those mountains? You would have to be as fit as superman to run up those mountains and have good brakes going down them.

So come Tuesday morning I thought I would go for a run but I woke up feeling really tired, I mean really, really tired (that's my excuse and I am sticking to it). So I wrote off Tuesday morning.

So I said to myself I will run Tuesday evening but the clouds were really ominous and looking like we were going to have torrential rain. So I didn't go and it turns out it didn't rain Tuesday evening.

Wednesday morning it was raining so obviously there was a 'no show' from me. Wednesday evening, same thing!

Now this morning I wake up and this is the fight I had with myself:

Uplifting-Me = UM and Depressing-Me = DM

So I have an UM-DM-UM-DM-UM morning.

UM: Let's look outside and see if it's still raining?

I look outside and everything is very wet.

DM: We can't go running in this weather!

UM: Hang on, let's walk outside and see how bad it really is because you really can't tell through this window.

DM: I don't know why you bother, it's obviously raining cats and dogs.

UM: We're going out anyway.

I don shoes and walk outside.

UM: I don't feel any rain.

Outside there are these workmen digging up our path (4.15am, who does that?) so I have a word with them and they tell me it's been raining on and off every 10 minutes.

So I walk back inside and the conversation continues.

DM: See I told you we couldn't run because it's going to rain so we may as well go back to bed.

UM: It didn't look that bad to me, I think we should go for a run, and besides you end up being soaked with sweat when you run anyway.

DM: That's different. I don't want to be soaking wet before I start running.

UM: It's the easter weekend and you won't be able to run this evening because you will be in the mountains.

DM: I will only miss this one week, OKAY!

UM: What's going to be your excuse next week?

DM: Lay off me, I am going to bed.

UM: Look if we go out and it rains before you get to the Bay you can go back to bed, OKAY?

DM: I don't like that deal, it sucks! I mean really sucks! With a capital 'S'.

UM: You haven't been doing well with your diet have you?

DM: HEY! That's below the belt. You know how well I have been doing in spite of being on my weight loss plateau.

UM: That's right, so DON'T BLOW IT NOW!

DM: Okay, but if it rains before we get to the Bay I am coming back.

UM: Deal !

So I do go and it doesn't rain until I am 3/4 around the Bay and we have a heavy mist/light rain for about 10 minutes and then it stops.

As usual I feel fantastic after the run so I don't know why I keep having these arguments.

Yes I do. It's 50 minutes of gruelling exercise. Plus 30 minutes of walking which is okay I guess.

Here is my cheer squad who egged me on. So I had to go because of these three. I hope you girls are happy now. :)

You are a runner so you had to do it!

I don't call myself a runner yet, Keith, but thanks. :)

YIPPPEEEEEEE I am so glad you went good for you :)
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Carol, YEEHAA!

We all have to shake up ourselves to move from time to time. Great that changes took place and I am glad friends were there to encourage you along

It's great having a cheer squad, Marlene, lol !

One two three four; who are we for? Michael! Michael! Rah, rah, rah!

Magnificent Michael runs again!

Just like the mailman, through all kinds of weather; the run must go through! Lol!

Nice way of putting this, Jeannie. :)

Right On UM!!!

Thanks, Arthur.

Lol Michael...I am all too familiar with these UM-DM sessions, and not only with exercise. This is healthy self-banter.

I always try to remember (at least most of the time)- when the UM eventually wins out, I feel great about it later.

It's great when UM wins out, Kaju. :)

I'm pleased your UM won the battle.

Well done Michael!

Thanks, Valerie, so am I. :)

Hahahaha....you go, brotha!!!

How do you spell unstoppable??? M-I-C-H-A-E-L!!!

LOL! Thanks, Vaddie!

Oops...I forgot to add "spell"...

You are forgiven. :)

I didn't expect such a fantastic comment.

Baby, I was Born To Run. Like Springsteen says in Thunder Road.... "It's a town full of losers, I'm pulling out of here to win"

Keep runnin', Michael!

You have made my weekend, Hal! LOL !

I'm glad Sydney is relatively sheltered Michael. They're having a typhoon watch in North Island NZ right now!

Yeah, it's pretty good down here. They have already had a cyclone in Northern Queensland.
