For newcomers the start of this story:

Running for your life

As I descend down easy street the wind has picked up so much that it is slicing through me like a knife. Even though there is no steam on my breath it's bitterly cold.

The best part about running at this time in the morning is the quiet and lack of people or traffic.

One lady running from the other direction has a torch strapped to her shoe so she can see where she is going, I stumble on.

Then I come to a part where there are these dark shadows cast across the path, or so I thought. These shadows are brushing my legs until I realise I have run off the path and into some low bushes. But I really thought I was on the path, so I stagger back over to the path. Who knows? I am guessing. But suddenly I break out onto a well lit path (I couldn't really call it well lit but at least it was more visible).

Then joy of all joys the very same man I saw at the beginning of my run appears. YAY! I have a witness! Now no-one can say that I didn't run this morning. Although I don't think he would make a good witness as he still seems very absorbed in his music.

"I'm sorry your honour but I did not see this gentlemen running around the Bay, I was alone that morning with my music".

I sprint up the 19 steps with a young woman coming down the middle and did not make way for me to come up those steps. What is it with some people?

I am only about 1.5 kilometres from the end of my run. This has been my coldest run EVER!

The last part of the Bay they have been widening the path to give more room to the cyclists who seem to use the Bay as a race track. I should really complain to council...

Then I get a blast, my African/Australian friend comes running towards me and yells out a hearty good morning. I manage to acknowledge and ask the obligatory "How are you" I don't hear a reply but I am guessing he said "Good!".

Finally this ordeal is over and I slow to a walk and put my frozen hands into my tracksuit pockets to freeze my upper thighs. I am not sure how my nose is holding up, it's too cold.

Then miracles of miracles, within 10 minutes my hands are warm and when I touch my face there appears to be an appendage there and it's hot.

This is the benefit of running, blood is being pumped into every part of your body and well oxygenated blood so your body comes alive and gone is bad circulation.

I go home to a hot (luke warm) shower and still manage a half hour rest until I have to leave the house.

You know what this means don't you?

Yep, I definitely have to run tomorrow morning so I can use my tracker.

Finally this is what my tracker tells me Friday morning which it could have told me Thursday morning.

So there you have it my friends, another run completed.

Only you can keep your spirits high.

Great read, my friend. I was right there with you on the run. Miss ya bunches, Mate. G'Day.

I could feel your hot breath on my neck, Teddy, good to see ya!

Good job, Mike! Keep writing these and you'll have a running book!

It makes me wonder, Rick, whether this will put people off running for life?

You made it Micheal! Do you intend to go on running through the winter or that's it till spring?

don't give his 'why should i' an excuse to stop now. lol
keep going michael - remember you can turn the thermostat down a notch after coming back in
phil

I thought about it but I will continue to run even in the cold. Thanks, Eric.

Where did you get your whip from, Phil? Home depot or...

dropshipped from china -still waiting for it to be delivered!
may have to 3d pint one!!!!
keep on running

No letting up with you is there? :)

Yeah December cold there for nus. Was it all at the base of hells hill. Dante revealed that the lowest pit of hell was a frozen ice field!!!

I did not know that, Michael, thanks. :)

Wow. I'm a huffin and puffin, and I'm still sitting down.

Take a deep breath, John.

True, your spirit gives you strength and fervor.

Yes, it does, thanks, Jimmy.

Beautiful story! Makes me motivated to go for a walk.

Excellent, Gina, I hope you have a nice place to walk in?

Yes I do. I live in a townhouse neighborhood so the streets not real busy and I can walk all around the the other townhouses. There's also woods all around it so it's pretty looking at the trees.

well done michael
you will have to break out the thermals soon - or run faster
your story telling is getting better - practicing for your site?
a little more descriptive and sticking to the point to prevent losing the reader - imho
i reckon you ought to get a dog and train him on the route - a lot easier, if you stick a camera on him and use fpv headset you could almost be there and keep warm!!!!

keep running
phil

Hey Phil,

It may have to be the thermals for a while (thanks for the encouragement) because running faster is not an option at this moment in time.

I used to run around this Bay with one of my dogs but alas she is too old now.

Thanks,
Michael

You sure are persistent. Good for you!
You are an inspiration. If you can do all that, it makes our work here seem so easy by comparison. Good for you Michael!

Thanks, Jessica! It is such a challenge as I have never experienced before but I don't regret it one bit

Michael

Michael,

You are one determined man.

You are a source of inspiration for those of us who talk ourselves out of going for a run.

You obviously fight off those "don't do it" demons more successfully than I do.

Your running commentary is absolutely delightful. Because it is so real and unfiltered, we get the virtual experience without having to go out the door.

Thank you for sharing the story of your run with us.

It has been entertaining, informative and hilarious.

Great job!

Susan

Thanks, Susan,

I love reading your comments!

Psyching oneself into going for a run is, I think, is one of the hardest things to do. If you can do it, creating a successful online website is a piece of cake.

Michael
