Is it love or hate?
Getting my health and weight back on track is a fight.
I have been running now since September 10th last year, and I started off very slowly and didn't manage many runs.
But now I have been running fairly regularly for the last month. In fact for the last three weeks I have been running every working week day.
Now you may be asking the question have I lost weight and what keeps me going?
I have lost weight - 15kgs (33 pounds) of the 30kgs (66 pounds) I need to lose.
You would think I would be inspired wouldn't you? Well, I am not! My stomach still wins the race. I know in a couple of more months my stomach will lose to my chest but I wish that was today!
My love/hate relationship with running still continues.
But get this, I don't hate going running because the rewards far outweigh the effort. 7 kilometres (4.34 miles) is still the distance I run plus 2 kilometre (1.24 miles) of walking.
I no longer start the run with the thought 'will I make it?' I now think in terms of how quickly can I get to Iron Cove bridge (half-way point) so that I can run back home and rest.
My body has stopped arguing with me, my mind is quiet (probably numb) but the rewards still stand, the euphoric 1 kilometre (0.62 miles) walk home and then shower.
As far as diet is concerned, I eat fruit for breakfast (that took me quite a while to enjoy over a full breakfast) and am loving it. For lunch I have whatever I like and I no longer eat after 5pm. My body finally gave up grumbling about this after 5 months!
At my age I had to make this choice because when I kiss this earth goodbye I will do it standing proudly. (there's a contradiction in there somewhere, lol !)
Getting serious:

The Bay run:

My adventure still continues and I am hoping that by September this year that weight will be a just a memory never to be repeated.
Have fun everyone!

I know what you mean about love/hate exercise. I just started a bar method class which is using muscles I never knew I had. I feel great afterwards probably like a runner's high but it's killer.
I haven't done a lot of running in a while, but I recall that at the peak of when i was really into it, I loved it a lot. Especially when that endorphine "high" kicked in and kept me feeling fit and focused for the rest of the day.
It's funny you should say that Michael, I have been running faster up that hill and my recovery time on Easy street has been quicker. Apparently, my resting heart rate is 50bpm and according to my app, I should live until I am 98. I wonder what would happen if I get it to 1 beat per minute? Isn't that what Tibetan monks do?
LOL Now all you need to do is eat your spinach so you get the iron and see Mr. Greenie better!
I wonder if spinach works better grown under a Kryptonite light? Although it makes Superman weak it might make us strong.
