Instinct vs Judgement call

I had an interesting experience...

When is an instinct an instinct or just a judgement call?

In the animal kingdom, animals know when danger is lurking and they act instinctively to avert danger.

With humans, many people think that they act instinctively but are really making a judgement call.

The Free Dictionary by Farlex had this definition:

So how do you tell the difference?

We base our decisions on experiences we have had before. So whether we have had a good or bad experience when we come across a similar situation we tend to justify our actions accordingly - that is a judgement call. If it's instinct, we act and don't need to justify or explain our action.

Basing your interaction from what someone else has told you or what you experienced before is stereotyping. e.g. s/he has shifty eyes, therefore, they are up to no good.

The universe may give you many lessons and some will be very tough but always leave yourself vulnerable and keep your heart open. Treat everyone with respect and make other people's lives easier so they, in turn, can make your life easier.

I should have pulled out the soapbox for this one but I think Jeannie may have borrowed it.

Be a treasure to all people even if they don't appreciate you.

I appreciate you very muchly. However, I have to tell you that my end stinks, but it doesn't tell me nothing.

I love you, brother, but just couldn't let this one.....pass.

ROFL! I will call you in the morning (your evening). It's been chaos over here.

Can't wait to hear your voice, big brother.

Ok, shall I put it in my own words, rescuing a drowning person is an instinct and rescuing a drowning person because you want to do something more unfavorable to him or because he had been good to you is a judgment call?

Rescuing someone wouldn't be an instinctive action because it's not life threatening to you. That would be more of a reflex action. Instinct is very basic and animalistic in nature. Thanks, Jimmy.

Ok, would it be going to the comfort room?

I borrowed the soapbox a while back; but I returned it...(screech) back to it's rightful place. If it's not there; someone else may have used it. Lol.

You are certainly an example of being a treasure to all people, Michael. I know that many of us do appreciate you.

Good, thought producing post. Thanks.

Jeannie

I thought you may have borrowed it again to play hide and seek with Isabella.

Thank you, Jeannie, you are my treasure.

Michael

Well, Bella would love that; but we usually use a blanket and play "Peekaboo". Lol. So nope; didn't borrow it. Maybe you better check again. Perhaps you sat a steam punk creation I front of it. :)

I don't think I have ever been anyone's treasure before. Lol. Thank you for saying that.

Jeannie

You know that giant you always talk about? I think he's either swallowed it or taken it home for fire wood. :)

Well. For him it wouldn't be much of a meal and it would be more like kindling to help get the fire started. Lol.

ROFL! You are so astute, I never thought about that.

Did you just call me a stute? I don't know what a stute is; but it doesn't sound good. Lol. Just kidding of course. I know what astute means. :)

I still say if you want to find your soap box, you should look behind your latest steam punk creation. :)

I did. The giant has used it for kindling. I'll have to make a new one now. Do you have any wood left from your last repair?

I borrowed it a while Bach but it ain't in Bama Neither.

Maybe we should put out a soap box alert. No. I used all the wood for the repair. Hey. It was repaired. No one could fall through anymore. The giant couldn't have used it for kindling. Keep thinking and looking Sherlock. :)

Take another look at that soap box you used for that post and see if it has a patch and a bottle of sparkling grape taped underneath. Lol.

Just had a look and I got very tickled. I adore you. One Helluva writer you are sweet sister of mine.

Were you tickled because you found the sparkling grape juice taped underneath? If you drank it all; please replace it for the next person. Some of us get testy when we don't have our grape juice. Lol.

Love you too Chris.

Jeannie

I will always make you say you love me TOO, buddy. I covered this in part two of a trainer I am about to post.

I don't say it unless I mean it. I'll check it out. Let me know when it is done.

Ditto, sissy.

Interesting post... Doing my best to help others... Great reminder, thanks.

It's all you can do, thanks, Isabella.

Interesting this. Ta.

There are many things to ponder on this one...

Thanks, Mickey, that is what I wanted to achieve.

Hi Michael,
This is a very interesting thought to ponder on as I'm just getting ready to give my laptop a rest and go eat and crash since I can't stay up all night tonight because I have an appointment tomorrow.

You are right, we make judgement calls based on things we have learned and experienced.

An instinct call is something that can not be avoided because by instinct, it is automatic response.

So, by instinct, I might be ready to do some things that I might need to do to survive and keep my sanity, but my better judgement tells me to think these things over a bit more before making a decision.

Thank you Michael, I always find your posts interesting and valuable.
Gina

Thanks, Gina, I can see you have thought about this as well. In our desire to be better human beings we need to know the difference between being unbiased (almost like a judge should be) or just being a jerk, lol !

Wonderful advice.

Thank you for sharing it with us.

Susan

I hope you got the full story because this post published and deleted half of what I was saying so I had to rewrite it and unfortunately I don't think this is as good as my original post. It wouldn't let me upload my original :(

The post made sense to me.

The critical part being the main message, which was to treat others as you would want to be treated, came through loud and clear!

Well done!

Susan

Thanks, Susan, you are always such a delight.

More autonomy that programmed judgement Michael!

This published and half the story was missing because I used a dictionary definition which WA obviously thought was plagiarising so I had to rewrite this post and it's not as good as what I originally wrote.

so dictionary definitions should be placed as images? - no duplicate content then - nice post michael thank you

phil

Yep, images are the way to go.
