Do you talk to yourself?

I have fascinating conversations with myself.

People ask me how come I am so disciplined? I think it's because I weigh up the pros and cons of all the decisions I make by having a stiff talk with myself. So I thought I would give you a run down of one of my conversations. Of course this will be tongue in cheek and hopefully you'll get a laugh out of this.

I thought of naming my characters: Pro-Me and Con-Me but didn't look as good to me as: Uplifting-Me and Depressing-Me.

So the story begins while I am walking home in this hot, humid, stinky weather that we are having (today only, it's been a deluge this last week).

Uplifting-Me: You should go for a run this evening.

Depressing-Me: You have got to be kidding! It's hot, stinky and not a cloud in the sky. I can't run in this heat.

Uplifting-Me: But you didn't run this morning like you said you would.

Depressing-Me: I was really tired.

Uplifting-Me: Yes, I know, but then you said you would run this evening to make up for not running this morning

Depressing-Me: I promise I'll run tomorrow

Uplifting-Me: You said that yesterday. I guess you want to look like a blimp and park yourself on the couch.

Depressing-Me: Hey! That's not fair! I've been doing very well these last few months.

Uplifting-Me: You know that if you don't run this evening you'll start another habit?

Depressing-Me: Aw! Come on! You know I've worked really hard to get where I am. Anyway I've been at 90kgs for the last 4 weeks and I am not feeling very motivated.

Uplifting-Me: Now the truth comes out. You do know that this happens to everyone who has been on a diet for any length of time?

Depressing-Me: I thought you were supposed to inspire me? Look I promise to run tomorrow morning.

Uplifting-Me: What if it rains? What if you don't wake up in time? You may have even better excuses tomorrow, who knows? You have that new fitness watch, try it out now. See how well you do.

Depressing-Me: I forgot about that...but it's not going to make the run any easier, is it? LOL!

Uplifting-Me: Look there's your running gear, put it on and go running. Just remember how you'll feel after your run.

Depressing-Me: If I do this will you shut up?

Uplifting-Me: Yes!

So I did go and it wasn't easy I can tell you. I was boiling hot and wished I hadn't started but I was committed. (or should that be, "be committed?").

With my new fitness watch I have worked out that when my heartbeat is around 155bpm to 160bpm I can run and feel sort of okay but above 160bpm I start to struggle. Most of the way around the Bay I am somewhere between 155bpm and 165bpm.

Running up to Iron Cove Bridge it gets up to 168bpm, and then again at Hell's Hill but the steps only takes me up to 165bpm.

As usual, when I finish running I feel ecstatic and am glad I did it. But I haven't got to the stage of relishing my run, yet.

So these conversations help me through a lot of anguish I might have about any goals I make. By doing this I can talk myself into most things - Uplifting-Me has a way with words.

Does anyone else have conversations with themselves or is it just me?

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Don't we do all...

Sometimes I argue with myself and loose the argument ;)

Well at least you lost to yourself.

I am in your club Michael, my big one at the moment is a have a phone that likes to randomly call folks on my contacts list while sitting safe and sound in my pocket down right embarrassing at times I seriously need to get a cover for it lol. those conversations and debates that we have with ourselves are what is going to sort the world out surely.

I have one of those too! I think it's the telephone companies trying to make more money, Alexander. I hope we can sort out the world this way, lol !

Each and every day of my life, Michael.

Sometimes I'd even need a moderator between my characters, cause man, serious stuff going on up there ;)

Have a nice day, both of you!
Israel.

I hadn't thought of that, Israel, lol !

Yip, I talk to myself all the time, and if you don't keep those promises or goals that you made to yourself.......the inner voice is ever present to constantly remind you.........it never gives up on you!

For sure, Johan.

I talk to myself all the time - and answer myself too!

It's the only way to get decent answers, Kaju, lol !

Sometimes I think the best conversations are the ones that i have with myself. Seriously!

I believe you, Erica. :)

Yes! I have conversations with everything, myself, my computer, my car, and sometimes in the grocery store with the products, then I look around, and wonder, did I said that out loud;)

I'm glad to hear you have got all bases covered, Loes, ROFL!

Absolutely I do... sometimes I just need to talk to someone that thinks like I do...LOL!!!
