Review Your Objectives

It is good to review your objectives ever so often. This helps keep your perspective right, your direction steady and your momentum at the right pace.

Review the hierarchy of your objectives, whether they are traffic, publishing frequency, depth of coverage, market coverage, target market, income, marketing, whatever it is that you set out at the beginning of your journey or at the beginning of the previous year or month.

These would be

  1. Your Long Term Objectives
  2. Your Medium Term Objectives
  3. Your Short Term Objectives

Review Your Posts

Go through your posts to check for mistakes as well as the flow of content. I started a mystery shopper routine sometime last year which was very useful. You visit your site like a visitor would and check to see if the articles make sense.

Are your headings catchy enough. Do they make someone want to read your content. Have you done your heading formatting well. Does it show the hierarchy of your content? Do the headings give a quick summary of your overall content. The sub headings may also need to be catchy or inviting.

Kyle taught us to do post that are conversational as you would do when talking to a colleague. Have questions that the other party would normally ask and then provide the answers. I recently learnt from some sales training that you should know your customers common fears and make sure you are addressing them. That makes the visitor comfortable and more attentive.

Update your content with new found information and updates that are relevant to that niche.

Review Your Links

Check if your links are working. Sometimes articles and other external sites that you link to can be removed and your visitors can get frustrated when that happens.

Review your content and add links where it makes sense. This will make your content more usable for your visitors and also help with your ranking.

Check your masking and cloaking with pretty links and other plugins. You may find that you may have some links from early days that have not been updated.

Review Your Keywords

Review the keywords that you had intended to use. Do they make sense within the article? Are they ranking you well? Do they need refinement? Are there any appropriate additional angles that you need to add to enhance relevance?

Review Your Site Stats

Check your site statistics to see how many visitors your are getting. Where are the visitors coming from. Which pages are more popular with visitors? How do they behave. Do they arrive and bounce off? Do they stay and read content? At what point or after how long do they leave a page? Do they go to another page? Which points are more popular? Do you need to change what happens at the popular or unpopular points. Is the behaviour resulting in sales or not? It would be useful if you can pick these up and address the issues on enhance what is working.

Set some action points

What can be fixed immediately do fix. Other items that may need more time, set a maximum of 3 actions to pursue. Doing this regularly will ensure that you are on top of things and you catch small annoying issues that may turn away your visitors.

Thanks for a post with some good business education.

Nice one thanks, buddy

Great article! Thanks

Thanks for sharing. Tracey

All of this is very important. I just have to take the time to do it.

As always enlightening. Blessings

Very valuable thanks for sharing. I was a webmaster for a large company and had to audit every page of the site in a daily routine as you described above. I would start at the home page and step through and when finished, sweep through again. About an hour a day is all it would take on a large site.

That was very thorough. It's worth outsourcing I guess for a one man show.

S Thanks Paul.
