What is this ? Look What I Have Discovered (Twacks Fourth Valuable share)

This is about the importance of WA Notifications. The emphasis has to be on the 'this' followed by the next few words delivered with a surprised look and a drop of the jaw. Let's try it together. 'What is this ? Look what I have discovered.'

The question and statement are part of one sentence but that is only for the title. In context here they need to be separated. I am always looking to try out new and innovative ideas and methods. Today I'm really 'pushing the boat out' by getting straight to the point. Now you've picked yourselves up off the floor, shall we continue ?

We would all like to say that we lead busy lives, some, most definitely, living on a merry-go-round that never seems to slow down or stop. So when we open our e-mails and see that the inbox is groaning due to the glut of new messages, it is not surprising to know that most of us will let out an audible sigh and move the cursor towards the 'delete' button.

If, you are like me, then most of these are going to be WA notifications. Actually the chances are, you're not like me and will have plenty of other interesting e-mails, friends, family or business associates, sigh. The tendency may well be to delete 'en masse' including a good chunk of the WA e-mails. I urge you not to and I will qualify that it a few paragraphs time.

Anyway, most of you will know that you can 'filter' or even turn off these notifications. For those who do not, it's very easy.

First, click on your profile picture so that you get a menu appear. It will be like the one in the picture below:

Then you need to click on the 'Account Settings' tab. Scroll down to the bottom of that page and you be greeted with this:

Now you can decide if you want to receive notifications or not. If, you choose 'Yes' then you can click on the highlighted 'Edit' button. This will then give you some choices of what you do and do not want to be notified about:

Decide away, by ticking all the boxes you want. Then click 'Save Changes' and you're done. Plenty of my boxes are ticked but I still don't get a huge amount of notifications, again sigh.

So, why shouldn't you just delete the WA e-mails 'out of hand' ? That brings me nicely to the 'What is this ?'

If, you are busy, time is a premium and the last thing you want to do is have to read a load of e-mails and/or posts. You have things to do, people to see, articles to write and so on. Rather than just deleting, save them for a later time when you have more time. It could be in a few hours, or few days or a week. It will still be there.

I quite often have new comments on posts a week or more after they've been published, they're still valid and relevant.

If, you delete then you might miss something that could be useful or in some cases, change the direction you are moving in. A reference someone makes in a comment to something that piques your interest. A reminder of another thing you wanted to look into but had forgotten about.

Of course, in time you will have formed relationships with other members and you are more likely to open and read their posts without delay as you enjoy what they have to say. Obviously the flip side of that is also true, some you will not open and delete without a second thought. It is what it is, in that respect.

It's the ones in between that are worth saving until you have a few minutes spare. If, you are a 'reader' or 'bibliophile' do you only read one author ? No, of course not. You will have a selection of favourites and some you will try upon a recommendation and then there are others, unread ones, whom you will take a chance on.

I had exhausted my supply of reading material at one point. I went into one of the bookstores in town and asked one of the assistants for their recommendations of authors I might like, based on what I enjoyed reading. Within about five minutes I was out of the door with two new books by authors I had never heard of. Both are now firm favourites.

I have learnt a great deal in my short tenure here at WA, not just from the training but from a great many of the other members posts and comments. So don't just dismiss their work, save it and read it later. Every now and then you will find a little something that could be the one missing element that changes you direction and puts you on a path to a whole new destination.

"Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when no one is looking."

Early posting today so enjoy the rest of a beautiful one.

Tweaked my list again, good reminder = Twack tweaked

'Twack tweaked' they just keep on coming. Love it.

How many tweaks would a Twacky Twack tweak if a Twacky Twack could tweak words? A Twacky Twack would tweak all he could if a Twacky Twack could tweak words.

Of course you ARE a master word tweaker... I was just playing with a nursery rhyme about a woodchuck.

That is bizarre, as only yesterday I was running the same rhyme 'How much wood would a woodchuck chuck' through my head. Something triggered it, it'll come to me. Simple things are all I need.

Bizarre is the new normal for people like us, Twack-eo.

That works for me , normal is overrated.

Will you please stop mind melding me! I did this yesterday! Had I not already discovered (yesterday) how to turn off the multitude of delights I was receiving, this post post would have been incredibly useful and informative.

I know this will help many, if they were like me, getting overwhelmed with the email barrage

(Keep one step ahead, my friend, just the one ☝️)

Note to self, my bad, will try harder, sorry.

"Will you please stop mind melding me!"
You mean like:
"My mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts,"
Sara, no one is looking or listening in and I won't tell anyone, promise. So, are you a Trekkie ?🖖

No not a Trekki, more of a Star Wars and the power of the Jedi kind of girl : ) (far more Buddhist for my liking) Although I did for sometime watch the one that had a female captain for a while (Star Trek that is)

Stop doing the whole professor Xavier thingy!

Just seem to be thinking of similar things at similar times! Maybe it is me mind melding you? mm that Kundalini Meditation that said **WARNING VERY POWERFUL, DO NOT DO UNTIL YOU ARE READY** must be working.

Ah Captain Janeway who suddenly reappeared, many years later in 'Orange is the New Black' and there we have Patrick Stewart nay Captain Jean-Luc Picard, not a Trekkie mmm ok.
Whichever way round the 'meld' is, it's adding to the whole experience in a positive way, methinks.
I would say I'm off to look for more dots but I don't think it works that way. You find the best things when you're not looking for them.

The dots are looking for you, as much as you are looking for the dots! I'm sure' ((the whole) picture ' is smiling at us right now : )). Wow how many brackets did that reference take! I have a slight problem with the G word, and no I am not talking about Google hahaha

Anyway have a great day away from the office my friend xx

Yes, I think you're right. Just need to be in 'receiving' mode I guess.

Very helpful, I didn't know I can edit, what I want to receive in my mailbox.

That's a result then. I am working towards fulfilling my SAC obligation in my own little way. Always happy to help.

I agree with you. Though the amount is overwhelming at times, there are often bits of very valuable information in there. I do the same thing...read some right away; read some later; a few I delete.

Alas it is the only way for the most part. It's the 'balance' that we seek, whilst being fair to ourselves and our fellow members.

This is great advice but I have to say that with 100+ notifications a day I can't read all. I don't want to turn off notifications because I may miss something. So I pick and choose and I am sure I miss some valuable information.

I have not figured out a better way to approach this situation. Any thoughts to further my process of selection?

Laura

I do as you do, in the main. Pick and choose, you tend to get a 'feel' as you scroll through. Maybe this is where the training should kick in. If we create a captivating title and a strong opening paragraph, then, that might be enough to keep us engaged.

Good point. Thank you.

Laura

Hi Laura :)

One thing I have started to do recently is change my emails from DATE order to SUBJECT order so all the trainings are then grouped together, profile comments, community questions, member posts etc.

I then open them in lots of 10 and like, comment, answer etc and tag and save any I want to refer to later in the POCKET app then work on something else and then do another 10.

Would that work for you?

Nicola :)

Now that is a great idea, thinks I might give that a spin. Thank you Nichola.

I love it and will try this.

Laura

Cool :)

Would love to hear if it helps you both too :)

Have a great weekend!

Nicola :)

Yes, Twack! There is so much gold in the comments section!
And your posts are inspiring and entertaining! I find you take your reader through a literary maze or two, then deliver some punchlines...( Or lines of punch.... 👀) that really make you think!
I don't get to read even a quarter of what I want to... In fact, I was just whinging inwardly earlier today about this.... So was a timely reminder to save them for later reads. That simple solution hadn't even occurred to me! 🤓🤪🤔👀 Thankyou!
Hey,I just noticed you are Rank 62! That's insane!! Congratulations!!!
Just attempting to settle kids for sleep here... And preferring this :)
Good night and Good morning!
Lyndal :)

Hi Lyndal, we have such a wealth (no pun intended) of unique insights from other, ironically, like-minded members. We are all part of an incredible resource and as such should make the most of what we have on our doorstep, as it were.
Thank you for you congratulations, it is indeed, fittingly, 'insane.'

Agreed! 🙂

There certainly are gems out there in WA, many.
Folder named WA....everything goes in there till i get to them.
Great post and a reminder about paying it forward, deleting doesn't really fall into that niche does it 😇
Daisy

Thank you Daisy. Also an excellent idea, mine has the 'urls' of posts in, for future reference. As our networks grow it does become harder to do justice to all that comes before us.

T,
5:45 am, and I have learned something new today! I didn't know that feature was there... Twacktastic!

BOOM.
I love it when that happens. Twacktastic indeed, I can add no more.

Prof Dr Emeritus Honoris Causa Twack,

BOOM!

Great post and really actionable advice on how to maximize our limited time and how to best filter out, save for a later time or eliminate WA's notifications. All the while encouraging us to read and to engage in other's posts and comments.

Kind of spooked by the cover image, as it seems like a typical recurring scene which precedes our Monday night Centurion Club poker games, in which someone we both know very well wearing a red robe with hidden pockets in its sleeves and who would distract us with some kind of mineral blob in order to render us sore losers at the end of that evening.

Blessings!

Oh my... you and Twack at this time of day!
AWESOME!

Shaunna,

Come on, the Brits got the home turf advantage of rising up earlier than us.

And you call this early for you?

We need to have a united US - Canada front.

I said before that there will be a Paul Revere like episode on WA TV where I will borrow a horse from one of your RCMP;s and ride onto the set before Kaju's camera screaming:

"The British Are Coming!"

Are we united now or what?

BOOM! (Stephen Larsen's wisdom not mines)

Blessings

It was 5:45 am here when I read this. Caffeine Infusion was a priority! LOL

Now The Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton is going through my head. Squirrel Guns and all!

Sorry Shaunna,

The only Horton I can relate to vis a vis Canada is Tim Horton's which aligns well with your breakfast there anyways.

Here we also have D.R. Horton as a national homebuilder.

BOOM!

Blessings!

BOOM.
Thank you Gabriel. I fear there will be no need of gimmicks or 'party tricks' as 'sleight of hand' will prevail and not an eyebrow will twitch when we face off in the final hands as our chips are diminished to nought. Got any of that ketchup left ?

Prof Twack,

I am all ketchup packets, all in.

I am VERY brave.

BOOM!

Blessings!

I see how it is, I've just seen 'ketchup' being delivered to another, with photographic proof.

BOOM

Prof Dr Twack,

It was fake virtual ketchup, production data unknown and rejected by the Royal British Naval Observatory Institute of Culinary Foodstuffs.

it even failed cursory inspection under the Hubble telescope.

Also it was microchipped so we can read sara's mind during the poker game.

BOOM!

Blessings!

Ssssh. Say no more. 😉
(Quiet boom)

Like this?

BOOM!

Blessings!

I meant about the secret microchip.

boom.
