Well ? What Are You Waiting For ?

Well ? What are you waiting for ? Hmm ? Now, firstly don't be mislead by the picture above. It's not about our pets grasp on the concept of time, or lack thereof. Actually I am confused about that. They know when it's dinner time, from about 5pm onward they become experts in the art of mithering. (Did you know that 'Mither' in Scottish means 'Mother') Yet, you can leave the house and come back and they are ecstatic to see you, whether you have been away for five minutes or five hours. No, that' not what this is about.

Tangent warning ! I have been frantically playing 'catch-up' of late and my posts have had some more serious undertones, not all, but a few.

It's taken it's toll and I fear I may have once again crossed over into the weird and wonderful world that I reside in, for most of the time. Just letting you know.

Ironically I have been meaning to write about procrastination for many months, there are probably a few notes somewhere, wise words of wisdom that will enable you to get up and do all of those things you've been putting off. Not going to do it though. No, that's not what this is about.

Not that it's not a noble subject but we all know what it is, I wanted to put a slightly different skew on things. Let's face it, it's been 'done to death' more times than poor Kenny in South Park. Disclaimer. No animated characters were harmed during the making of this post and my thoughts are with Kenny's family in their perpetual time of grief.

Let's keep this short, sweet and to the point then, very much like me. Actually, two of my offspring blame me for their lack of height. I'm 5'10", I'm not short. My sister, who is older than me and therefore should, in a disconnected (or discombobulated) way, take more of the blame, is barely 5 foot. It is an injustice, but bless their little cotton socks, which they still refuse to put in the wash bin on a regular basis.

So, forget routines, to-do lists, reward systems, goals, targets etc. Hey they are all very important and I am not saying we shouldn't have them, it's just they're not relevant to this post. This post is all about 'Just doing it'. That's it. It's making the conscious decision, in that instance, to do something. Not later today, tomorrow or next week. NOW. Oops, sorry, I got carried away.

What else does it come down to, if we're brutally honest with ourselves ? A choice, a decision, that's it. The plans and lists can come later, for all the other bit and pieces you might want to get round to doing. I'm talking about the here and now. If you want a compromise, boohoo poor thing, here you go, make your list or plan now.

"I've got so much to do, I don't know where to start, I could do with making a list to help me get

organised, so I can function properly. I'll never get anything done otherwise. Yes, that's the plan, I'll make a list. First thing tomorrow, I'll get right on it"

I've just written that and it sounds way to familiar. If it is me then I need to read this post and just pick any item of that imaginary list and do it.

Unless you are one of the 'special' ones and are so highly organised that everything is already done, then the chances are you are like the rest of us. So why don't we just do it ?

If you can't do the first thing that comes to mind, do the second, or the third, ad finitum (always wanted to use that)

An example and then I'll leave you in peace. A friend of mine has mentioned a few times that he was going to sort through his garage, have a clear out. Would I list anything that seems worth it on EBay ? Of course, I would. This has been on the cards for a few months. Sunday he phones me up (just as I'm about to head into traffic purgatory) asks if I'll take my camera in on Monday, when we convene for lunch. No problem. I did so, as requested. Took pictures of five items he'd bought in. That night I created listings for them all and conferred the following day on pricing. This morning they all went 'live' so to speak.

Within half an hour I had sold two of the items. Now, the proceeds are going towards a restoration project he has been working on over the last couple of years. These odds and sods don't owe him a penny, they've all come as part of other vehicles he's had over the years. Today he will have added just shy of £200 into the coffers and there are still three more possible sales to go.

Is there a moral to the story or this post. Not really, it's not that complicated that we need a moral to back it up. I wouldn't mind a cliche or two but I've got nothing that's fits the bill without it sounding corny. 'Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today..blah blah blah'

We can all find excuses not to do something, that's the easy part. Sometimes we just have to get up and do it. No thinking, just doing.

Sorted then, have a most productive day.

Thank you for your time,

Thank you for those Tom, I might have to start a new folder for all these excellent quotes of yours.

Have fun I have heaps.

I download every quote I find.

Tom.

Awesome.

Thanks for sharing

Always welcome Josephine, appreciate you popping in.

Oh dear, I have a feeling this is aimed directly at me!
I moved into my current house 4 years ago and still have unopened boxes in the basement. Some people say “if you haven’t missed it by now throw it out”. But I’m nearly sure there are valuable treasures packed away that I’ve simply forgotten I had, and I would end up tossing a “thingamajig” worth hundreds of dollars.
Ah well...it will still be there tomorrow! LOL 😝
KyleAnn

So my answer is to the very same sentiment of 'not missing it'. "Well, you never know, it might come is useful one day" Periodically I will have a 'cull'. For now the six hundred plus videos might still get watched, I mean, there are some classics there.

I say that, lol. 'Bless their little cotton socks.'
Great post with all the right ingredients that make it a Twack post.
Wondered where it was going, laughed, enjoyed and found the point.
If we put stuff off until tomorrow we have twice as much to do and less inclination. Especially as the to do list grows day by day and we no longer feel it's doable.
So yes! GO do it NOW!!

Thank you Linda. Summed up nicely there. This list does grow day by day, despite our best efforts sometimes. In fact you can almost guarantee if you put it off till tomorrow, something makes an appearance just to throw a spanner in the works. I'm still playing catch-up from Sunday. Today I just needed to get a couple 'on the board'.

Well inspired by the do it now, I got an order done for my 'other pre WA business', did some training, answered emails, read a few blogs and commented on said blogs.
I am now off to work on one of my sites. Adding goods for drop shipping. It's slow going but I am gradually getting better at it.At this rate though Christmas will be over before its done, lol.

Enjoy, but do try not to drop your shopping.

You are a one, lol.

I have one area that is just like that. Mail!!! I get mountains of unsolicited material, especially political stuff. My first inclination is to dump it pronto. But, there is that little nagging something that says "you better check this out first". So, I dutifully add today's haul on a growing, uninviting stack. I wait a few days then attempt to look at each piece. By the third one, I'm aiming directly for the waste basket. Wow! Cleaned that up pretty quickly. Don't know what all that delaying was about.

It tends to come in waves, I can go for months with very little and then it goes ballistic for a few weeks. I am fairly ruthless nowadays though.

Okay, now I will stop answering emails and go and just do the post I have half-finished.

Go Fran, do it, get it done. Today is the day and then tomorrow and the next. I'm all for lists but sometimes I just want to pick one thing and complete it, start to finish. I'm off to order some CR1220 batteries for a dodgy key remote.

Well, well, well! That is good, I enjoy reading this, thanks again.

Thanks Simiao, you are very wlecome and I'm happy you enjoyed reading it. Have a great day.

T,

Long ago I gave up on being 'Organized' in the traditional sense of the word...I seem to work best with Constructive Chaos.

How does Constructive Chaos work?

I wish I could answer that! That's where the Squirrels come in...

I have notes that guide me through the Chaos part, and then I form a plan, execute it, and Bada Bing Bada Boom... DONE!

S

S,
I need to apologise for not replying sooner, even though I thought I had. I had a feeling I had replied to both you and Joe, but apparently not on either count, computers don't lie, surely. Saying that, the same member did follow me 'twice' this evening, so all bets are off.
I definitely wrote something as I remember mentioning 'Chaos Theory' being a thing...hmm. Oh well , it's gone. Let's hope 'L'esprit de l'escalier' kicks in before bedtime.
Sometimes you just have to 'get it done' . Start something and follow it through right to the end, no distractions or excuses.

Oh Twack, you’re just too honest! I’m one of those disgusting people who organizes to the minute. My wife exact opposite. Causes some conflict! 😤
Joe

I'm having a bit of 'deja vu' here Joe, I'm fairly sure I already replied, obviouly not. Maybe I missed my tablets. Well, I'm here now, hopefully. See if I can remember what I said.
I do try to have a routine, really I do. It's just that sometimes it goes right out of the window and I just have to get stuck into a task or two until they're done.
As for contrast, they do say opposites attract, I mean Ying and Yang is a thing. Creating a harmonious balance.

Twack, I love your replies and posts. You are so open and honest and that's the only way to live. That way you don't have to try to remember what you said!
Joe

Can you imagine trying to keep track of some intricate web of words, not knowing what you've said to whom...all of the time. My fact is far more fun than fiction.

🥴
