We Remember It All (Or Do We?)

You may have seen the title, 'We remember it all' and thought I was going to harp on about remembering past lives. That's the belief that we were all here before as someone else, or something else depending on what you believe. Nope, not going down that one. Not that I'd dismiss the idea out of hand. There are certainly instances that have been catalogued where people have experienced a form of 'Deja vu' and put it down to having someone else's memories. Young children being taken somewhere and knowing what's around a corner, even though they have never visited that place before. Interesting ? Hocus pocus ? Possible ?

Like I said, that's not what this one is about but, as a side line, it has some legs for a possible, future post. This is to do with our ability to remember things. An important part of our journey here is the training and our ability to 'take it in' and to use it on a regular basis. Practice makes perfect, as they say and with good reason.

A wee tangent, forgive me. Many of the things around us, materially speaking, have their roots

in the human form. Not so much the 'looks' more to do with how we operate. There are plenty of things that have a 'brain' or some form of control module. They will also have some form of 'engine' which will need fuel or power supply. The fuel will need to be replenished. You get the idea.

When we repeat various tasks or procedures, they remain at the forefront of our minds.(In computers, as well as 'Cache' there is also 'Prefetch' which work along the same lines.) This information is easily accessed because the brain keeps it in a place that we can dip in and out of very easily. As we perform these functions less and less they get stored in different places that are not so readily available. They're still there but we might have 'think' a little harder to recall them. After a period of time we will no longer be able to remember them at will and need some form of trigger. Yes ?

You'll all be aware of how that goes. That name of the tip of your tongue but for the life of you, it just won't come to mind, then thenext day when you're doing something else, it will just materialise. The other day and not for the first time recently, I was trying to remember the name of the 'artist' (Probably not called that anymore, who knows) who had done a piece of work that was actuall just an un-made bed. All I kep comeing up with was 'Emma'. My friend looked it up and her name was Tracey Emin. It would have come back to me in time, I'm sure. Interesting how I managed to get the 'Em'

Everyone has varying thresholds for these and I know there are plenty of techniques for having a good 'memory'. One of the favourites is having an imaginary 'mind palace' with loads of rooms and each room has 'items' in them all which connect to a certain memory. Anyway back to remembering, lest I forget what I'm on about.

Our brains are incredible, no two ways about it, they just are. As a species, we are continually trying to replicate what they can do, with some varying degrees of success. However, if 'AI' wants to see a picture of a strawberry then it have a file somewhere, with a picture. If we want to see a strawberry we can manifest it in our minds. You can 'see' one right now but where exactly is it ? I have no idea. Hey ho.

I have a point, possibly two. There is a hypothesis, as I'm not sure how one would prove this, that our brains 'store' everything we've ever seen and done. If we assume, that means everything our brain allows us to see (By deleting some stuff before it enters our brain using the 'Reticular Activating System) That's a large amount of data but is it true, even in a small way ?

Ever read a book ? How about one from childhood ? We could be talking over forty years ago or more. If you found one of them now and started to read it, do you think it would be totally unfamiliar ? I would surmise that at some point you will start to remember parts as you read through and I don't just mean the basic plot line, more salient points. These little nuggets of information have been stored away in our brains, just waiting for the 'correct' trigger to release them. If we use the 'mind palace' analogy, the memory would be in a blue box, on the third shelf above a sideboard, on the right-hand wall, in a room on the ground floor, the room is one of hundreds down a long corridor, one of thousands etc.

Just writing the above paragraph has reminded me of a book I read when I was probably nine

or ten. 'Louie's SOS' by E.W.Hildick. About a milkman. There was blue, white and red on the cover and I dare say, if I found a copy now and started to read it, much would come flooding back.

Through the training here, there is a vast amount of information. Some of it you will have to go over time and time again until it sinks in but it will sink in and the more you use it, the easier it will be to remember. Try going back over some of the lessons and see how much comes back to you that you had forgotten you even knew. It's all there in your head, you just need to find that trigger.

When you do revisit, try making some notes. You don't have to write an essay, just some 'bullet' points. Next time you come to write a post, refer to those and see if it makes it easier and helps you to include everything you should for a stunning article. It's all there, you just need to remember to use it.

Never underestimate you own ability to learn and remember. You may surprise yourself with the amount of knowledge you have actually retained without even realising it.

Very interesting read. Thanks.

Brian

Appreciate that Brian, thank you for popping in.

It's funny the things we do and don't remember. A song can play that I haven't heard in many years but I'll find I still know the lyrics after all those years.

These are things that I enjoy trying to fathom out Mickey. It adds some credence to the idea that we have plenty of memories 'stored' away that we are unaware of, until something triggers them.

Funny thing about memory, I can recall endless nonsense and trivia but when it comes to something important I should know from earlier OEC training...zero, zilch, nada, nothing.
I can still remember dreams I had as a child (I always dream in vivid color and usually remember at least one every morning when I first wake up) some I’ve had multiple times. Maybe those are what’s taking up all the space!
KyleAnn

That's interesting. Why we involuntarily remember certain things over others.
recurring dreams are anothe fascinating one. I've not had the 'same' ones repeatedly but have had a 'theme' more than once. Always being in an abandoned or uninhabited building, situated in an open expanse of land.
I rarely try and interpret dreams, just enjoy them whenever possible, if I can remember them.

I have some great ideas in the middle of the night when I have my ritual trip to the bathroom. Sadly I forget most of them the next morning...

Apparently, keeping your eyes closed on the midnight jaunts, stops a chemical secretion that brings us back fully into the waking world. I used that one with caution though. Enough said.

Hi Twack, your posts are always a great read. Instant recall or something embedded in the subconscious mind.

The subconscious begins to develop from the day you were born, while memories start to develop at later stages in life where, you start to make conscious decisions. Somebody said that.
What has that got to do with the price of tea in China, I have no idea.

Knowledge stored in the subconscious, or learned on a daily basis, the human mind keeps on evolving.

The name that is at the tip of your mind, as soon as you stop thinking about it, viola there it is. At least that's the way it works for me.

Reincarnation, the after life as some Hindu's call it, believed by Buddhism, Sikhism.

The mind is an amazing thing and never fails to astonish me.

Forgive me Twack, for sometimes I know not what I'am saying or if it is even relevant to your post.

Best wishes,
Michael

Michael, your responses are always a joy. I agree, our minds are phenomenal. The more we learn about them, the more we can use them to do incredible things. Realising that we can be in control of them is key to unlocking so much more.

Thanks Twack. Yes, memory is amazing. Don’t know how to clean it yet!
Great post.
Joe

That's a good point Joe. All I can do is decide at source what I allow 'in'. Hence, meaningless conversations about someones pet iguana having a cold, having no place in there. Not that I've got anything against iguanas.

Smile...I personally don't care for iguanas, but don't care to hear about them either. Guess it gives someone something to say!
Thanks Twack.
Joe

Someone has always got something to say Joe, of course it then becomes our choice whether we listen or not.

That's true.
Joe

T,

My 'cache' is currently in need of a thorough clean, and reboot... maybe even a debugging. (Useless information seems to have collected there, and the useful, necessary items have gotten lost in the CPU). I have to take notes because of this problem.

S

Regular system maintenance is highly recommended. Having suffered numerous 'Memory Dumps' I now back-up regularly with endless scraps of paper in any form I can lay my hands on.
Useful information that I may need on day-to-day, week-to-week and month-to-month basis, such as birthdays, anniversaries and names are kept in the wallet, that way I know the information is accurate.

🤣

I relate extremely well to your post, Twack. I can remember so many things that happened in my childhood, so long ago that it's incredible what the mind can do. But, ask me what happened a few weeks, or even days, ago. Hmmm...not so smart there. And, that applies to WA training, as you have said. The annoying part is that when I start to revise a training it all comes back and it doesn't seem necessary to stay with 'till the end. And, so it goes on!

Indeed, I know where you're coming form Valerie. My issue is more remembering what notes I have. I am sure I have duplicate scribblings all over the place.

Yes. I've got those too, Twack.
