That Will Teach Me

Now for some reason I had a feeling that I had already used 'That Will Teach Me' as a post title once before. I guess not, as it's not been flagged.

I should have used it before, as this is not the first time it's happened. I have definitely been down this road previously, that's why I normally conduct my daily dealings with an amount of deference.

Believe me, I am all too familiar with the phrase "It will come back to bite you", I daresay there are probably a few mental scars to prove it as well.

If you cast your mind back to yesterday's post 'It's Already An Amazing Day', the headline pretty much gives it away. It was an amazing day but I should have sidled on through it without drawing attention to the fact.

Let's just say that Clotho (the Spinner), Lachesis (the Alloter) and Atropos (the Inflexible) must have been paying close attention to my day and decided that I needed a lesson in humility.

Back to today. The first 'order of business' was to install both the graphics card and the hard drive that I had forgotten I had. When someone says to you, only change one thing at a time, take note.

I did take note, had I not, things might have been catastrophic rather than just disastrous. Turns out that the graphics card was a 'low profile' one, which I hadn't realised when ordering.

Not a major issue, I removed some of the metalwork and it fitted well enough (just a gap at the rear of the computer) . Anyway, it turns out that I would need to do some more research, as it wasn't a case of 'plug and play', it wasn't having a bean of it. Sigh.

I removed it and moved onto the hard drive. No long-winded description, everything went south, rapidly. It also became apparent that it wasn't empty, it was actually nearly full.

It seems that adding this last drive pushed my poor PC over the edge. Before that I had also moved a 'jumper' connector in the hope of salvaging something from the graphics card debacle.

Instead, system passwords went haywire and I could no longer access my normal desktop. All in all, it's been a right mess on an unprecedented scale. Oh well, what can we do but smile and move on.

As if the 'trying trio' hadn't had enough fun with me already, guess what I found ? An internal card

reader, so there was no need for me to buy the one I recently purchased.
I will not be bitter or twisted and as we speak, the wheels of industry are turning in an effort to supply me with the correct 'fascia/caddy' to house the old card reader.

The good news is that Being already familiar with swapping files from one drive to another, along with re-instating broken short-cuts and reinstalling programs. None of it is urgent and I have access to everything I had before, it's just in a different place.

Apparently, the 'old' recently found hard drive hasn't seen the artificial light of day for more than three years. After a brief perusal, I have found some very interesting files that I had completely forgotten about. Silver linings abound.

Oh, remember the 'nodes' ? Yep, they no longer worked as they were 'opened' on the other hard drive.

Last but not least, one of the iPhones that I found has now been fully charged and although 'disabled' and inaccessible, seems quite happy to sound regular alarms that were set up when the phone was in daily use. It is now back in the drawer, so as to muffle the sound.

So, there we have it, my day so far. I'm off to take some more pictures of my friend's Beetle and that will be enjoyable. Maybe this evening I will get some actual work done. How's your weekend shaping up ?

Dear Oh Dear talk about jinxing!! It really is cruel when one is up so much one day but yet so frustratingly low the other. Life must really practice on the middle ground a bit more.

At least it is not completely all downhill, some files found, you still have use and referral with a pic. Certainly better than a kick up the backside by any means.

Enjoy your Sunday!

R.

Thank you Rami, you too.
I must admit, the 'middle ground' does sound nice, though I think we thrive on the excitement of the extremes. Life would be dull wouldn't it ?
As it has turned out, my hand has been forced in regard to 'tidying' up my digital world. This is the cleanest my 'desktop' has looked in a long while.

You are most kind sir!

Find it is always good to be ready to scramble at a moments notice or so the Spitfire crews proved ;

Thank you I shall try!!;

T,
I am genuinely sorry for your misfortune... but I can't stop laughing either. (Trust me, I'm laughing WITH you, not at you).
All I can picture is the alarm going off randomly, in a drawer, trying to get your attention!
Would you like me to send a squirrel or two to chew parts for you?
S

When I dropped the parts round to my friend, we were comparing our mutual 'tales of woe' and he laughed hard when I told him about the phone.
I will decline your generous offer of 'squirrel assist' I might be tempted to let them at the 'junk' pile in the conservatory. Actually, come to think of it, maybe that's not a bad idea. ๐Ÿค”

Oh Twack, I laughed so hard at the iphone alarm going off when you can't get to it. That must have been the final straw.
Hope the photography went well and the evening is going well too.

Exasperation didn't quite cut it, at that point I knew the odds were against me and that it was best to salvage what I could and move on.
My friend had a similar day, so he was happy that I took the parts over, at least tomorrow he'll have a few more options.

((((Big Hugs))))

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™ (Not sure how many constitutes 'many thanks')

Lol. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

Why is it, when we set out to solve a problem, there is never a simple solution? Case in point: My recent journey into the land of AWeber, where it took me three days to build a landing page. At the end, discovered part of the problem was that not all WordPress plugins like the AWeber plugin, and disable it. Had to get yet another plugin to reroute my responses to the landing page directly to AWeber. I will say that their helpful staff all deserve gold stars!

So what will go whacko today? Something, I'm sure...

Glad to hear you got it sorted in the end. It would have driven me round the bend and back. It never gives you the full info, even in the small print.
My friend had a similar day, so dropping his parts round helped ease his frustration.
Not sure I'll attempt anything more tonight though, just in case.

I tried to create a landing page Fran, it looked great but the buttons didn't work so it was useless. Maybe I have the same problem that you did. Can I ask what the other plugin was that rerouted it to Aweber?

Sure -- it's called "Page links to." Good luck. If you can't get it to work, you could get in touch with AWeber. Those folks were extremely helpful for me.

Thank you Fran, really appreciate that.

You have really been busy with your new toys Twack! Better luck next time.
Carol

You win some etc. I managed to salvage a usable state and stayed with that for now. Thank you for dropping in Carol, I'm always grateful.๐Ÿ˜
