Rice Is Nice The Wetter The Better

It's true, well at least the first part. Rice is nice (I was always told that 'nice' is a wishy-washy word). 'The wetter the better', well I'm not sure about that, maybe in a risotto.

Still, not the point. The point will come, after I've prevaricated a while.

'When inspiration strikes' is a common enough phrase and yet I'm not sure that it strikes all that often. It's like waiting the kettle to boil, sort of. I mean if you need inspiration, then it is not always obliging.

Some like to commune with nature and I can confirm, that has worked for me, on occasion. Certainly the morning dog walk has bought about some interesting posts.

Today, it was food that cooked up some well needed inspiration. Join me, as I recount the process. It won't take long and you could do with a break, you work so hard.

I had just returned from my local garage, after dropping off a part I had ordered for one of my friends. A quick 'kitchen tidy' and I retired to the 'desk'. I had left with a clear inbox no more than two hours ago, only to return to thirty messages.

I don't mind that, but ten of them were in 'junk' and you can guarantee that there will have been some poor mail sorting from our friend Outlook. There seems very little point in having a 'junk' folder if you have to keep checking it.

Upon sitting down, I realised that I had nothing planned for today's post. Not an issue, there is always something to talk about.

Then, one of my sons came in with his lunch. Normally I wouldn't have paid any attention but today the smell that emanated from his bowl, really was quite mouth-watering. (Do you think 'was really' would have been better ?)

I inquired as to the origin of the aroma, to be told that it was rice. Not standard boiled, white rice, no sir, this was 'Mexican savoury rice'.

'Mmmm' I thought, quickly followed by 'rice is nice'. In my mind, I was picturing Homer Simpson saying it.

So, that was how the seed was planted but that's not the end. I couldn't take you on a journey of discovery, where the end result was me telling you how I came up with the title to a post, even if it is one of the more unusual ones, now could I ?

It reminded me of something I saw/heard on a video I watched recently (That's a whole other post). The title was something along the lines of 'Earn $250 by typing names online' or close to that. Anyway, that's not important.

The 'gig' was coming up with 'names' or titles or taglines or app names, you get the idea. I felt a large attack of naivety overtaking me.

The truth is, there is a site (there maybe many) where companies or individuals ask for ideas for their various projects. You suggest a name and if they like it, you get paid. The actual site, in this instance, was 'Squadhelp'.

How cool is that ? (Sorry, couldn't help myself). Think about it, what could be better than going there and spending ten minutes just having a look through the requests, something might spring to mind and you could earn some money.

Now, I haven't been on the site myself, I had forgotten all about it until I caught a whiff of the rice just now. I enjoy that kind of thing, it's a bit like the whole process we go through when trying to come up with domain names, only you can get paid for it.

Well then, my work here is done. Once it had come to mind, I just wanted to share. I might have to go and check it out though. If you do, let me know what you thought and if you came up with any winners.

I came up with a book title once, for a proper author, and he used it. I'm fairly sure I wasn't the only one that came up with the winning one, but I did get a signed copy, which was nice.

Sorry, I've gone off on one. Time to say goodbye for today. Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday and remember to stay safe, healthy and happy.

Hmmm Twack,
you've really got me thinking of getting the little bag of arborio rice out in the car.
Then measure out a small cup, because it's going to expand.

Wash the rice Japanese style 3 times, in your rice cooker's pan.
Maybe this kind rice is supposed to be sticky, but this kind of washing will prevent too much starch build up. expecting no sticky just fluffy.
This is rubbing it together to get white stuff to wash off of it, then rinsing. Next:

Hawaiian style adding the water for vacuum style 20 year old Yan Can Cook Rice Cooker, is add enough water to have 1 finger joint more water than the height of the rice. (Swirl the rice so it lays down evenly on the bottom of the pan.)
You live Hawaii, you make rice every day. even McDonalds serves rice>>> Got to go with Dah Flow of Kilauea, the volcano!

You leave Hawaii, you miss rice,
Hey Twack, it's kind of like Twack becomes some thing a person comes to expect and enjoy, and all the different variations of the way you see life, like rice "with", or Thailand Red rice, or black rice and...something. And the end result is never ordinary. Like Twack, your "ordinary" becomes our transformational. We will never be the same, or even want to be what we were, after meeting you.
Don't let your head get stuck in the door now!

Aloha is I honor the Creator's breath the ha in you,
Suzay

Now here's me thinking that rice is just some common or garden accompaniment for something more exotic.
Your description makes me want to try out at a couple of variations, even after I've had my evening meal.
I do so enjoy your comments, in fact 'comment' almost does them a disservice, as they are more than that.
As always you have my thanks, though it never seems quite enough.๐Ÿ™

I want to dig up some mochi rice dessert recipes.
You may think it's weird to stuff these sweet sticky balls with sweet sticky bean paste, or just flavored mochi. Like green tea or Matcha powder, tea powder, ginger, or chocolate, or chocolate with ginger. Or roll them in white sesame seeds.
Mochi comes like flour. I saw my friends microwaving to cook it, modern style. Either you like it, or you no like. But to get the taste for it, must try it a few times.

Bo ba is another rage, that's flavored tapioca pearls in a drink, with a big thick straw.
Just don't choke, if you suck it up and don't stop to chew it.

Boba, you want one!

Boba by the beach. Boba in Pineapple-Coconut, Strawberry, Coffee, Mango or, You name it, or Peach.

You are showing me a whole other world I never knew existed. It's about time I extended my culinary horizons.

Twack, there is some reservoir in California, where they filled the surface of the Res with floating black nylon balls to reduce evaporation and cut sunlight into the water, and consequently, the icky, and stink sticky growth of algae. This also makes the water taste better, and hardly any skimming off of dead algae, etc.- you don't want to know.
Well anyways, someone on the crew for distribution of the floating balls, all she could think of is,
"Can't wait to get done for the day, get off this sun-drenched reservoir and get some nice, cold Boba for the ride home!"

There you go! If you find that you like it, you love it, you'll want some more of it! Bo ba.
Plastic cups raised, Cheers!
Have a Fabulous Day, my friend Twack!
Suzay

I have a feeling that now that I am aware of it, I will come across it more often.

Yes, Yes, Yes. Very good, nice chunky straw, and Mmmm! That's it Twack! Hope it's in your path and you can share the experience with some one you care for, and trade a taste, like any good dessert.
Also Twack , did you add the image with that paperclip V V V down there? How did you do that?
Suzay

Glad I have the right one, not sure about tapioca, maybe school puddings weren't the best.
Yes, just click on the paper clip and then choose the image file, add a title and you're done, it appears after you have hit 'reply'

Thank you about image adding, that is cool.
The Boba balls are tapioca "pearls,"
Some one just figured out they flavor nicely.
A drink, and a new industry were born! Plus they have a curious look to them. What are those things?
So also a conversation starter.

Always good exchanges with you, it's iron sharpening iron, and so the countenance of a friend, Twack.

Suzay

Always a pleasure and friends indeed. Still not sure about tapioca though, if I have the chance I will throw caution to the wind and try it, I can do no more than that.

I think you could earn some decent money with title suggestions for sure. Today's title is perfect, I didn't get the point but it sounds nice.
If that question with "what really" wasn't rhetorical question, my answer is no, I wouldn't change it because the first option makes it stand out more. However, I think there shouldn't be a comma in the middle of the sentence ๐Ÿ˜Š

A valid point well made. If you swap the 'really was' around then the comma becomes obsolete. Fascinating stuff. It's interesting in that today I had a conversation, instigated by me, about my own overuse of the comma.
I think I use them as a pause where maybe others wouldn't, that's just how I hear it in my head.
The 'Squadhelp' site sounds like it could be fun to drop on every now and then, just to flex those creative sinews.

Now "sinews", another word I've never heard of. I thought I was quite literate but seems I was wrong ๐Ÿ˜Š
Yeah, the comma...I could explain why it can't be in a middle of a sentence like here but it's not really important. Your unique style of writing can be spiced up some extra commas.

Technically speaking, sinew is a tendon but I've rarely used that description. I always think of it as 'sinewy' and that would be if I was describing someone who is devoid of all body fat but has the frame of a marathon runner, like 'wiry'.

Quite partial to Mexican rice...Basmati is my poison although well cooked as all rice should be otherwise it becomes messy podge!! ; Could never get used to Risotto too slimy and greasy!! lols

Of course, it's 'really was' only ( not but) I had better stop there as do not want to start a class action!! ha ha

Thank you for pointing to Squadhelp never heard of it then again had nor heard about the WordPress .com community as well as a.org one a bit similar to the only (but) ranking!! ;

Trust at least the beggar shared with his Dad or is that filed under the pipe dream section!! ;

Enjoy your Wednesday too... whatever is left of it that is!!

R.

I'm with you on the Basmati, there's usually a sack in the cubby hole, though last time out I went with smaller. I should learn to do more with as it ticks all the boxes.
I'm about to get into some breaded cod, pepper chips and salad.
I have a whole evening ahead, anything could happen in the next half hour.
Thanking you as always, enjoy all that lies ahead.

You're most welcome!!

That sounds wicked!!

Enjoy!! lols

Mmmmm.....Rice.... LOL

Great way to come up with a thought, Twack. Any inspiration will do in my case!

Thank you Karin. It took me by surprise and my son looked at me blankly when I had my little 'Aha' moment.
Thank you for stopping by, I am always very grateful. Have a good one.

Kids... LOL... Yes, my granddaughter gives me the "blank" look a lot!

I agree with Isaiah - nothing that a whiff of garlic canโ€™t bring out the best!
Joe

Now my stomach has started to rumble, I really should spend more time being creative in the kitchen.

Hmmm... don't have any suggestions.
Joe

Don't worry, I'll see if I can catch a rerun of 'The Galloping Gourmet'
