Need That Ideal Image Size ?

All to often I have needed that ideal image size. On such occasions, I normally use Mr. G to see if there's an article out there that services my needs. Then I happened upon a neat little thing that made life a whole lot easier.

OK, that's the first paragraph SEO sorted, now I can speak freely.

You need to know why I'm writing this, context is important. Without context, it's just words. I remember reading something similar to that a while back. It was from a book by Gichin Funakoshi (Some would say he was the one that bought Karate to the masses, others would probably disagree, either way, he was pretty awesome).

He said, and I'm going to paraphrase because I can't be bothered to look it up.

"Karate without respect, is just violence" I love that line. Ooo, that's reminded me of one of mine. Shoot, I haven't written it in my folder and I have no idea where I wrote it, probably in a comment somewhere, oh well, another day then.

The reason I'm writing this, is that I've just cleaned my desk. Not a big deal, well maybe not to you but it is to me. I even cleared away all the clutter and detritus that has built up since the last time I cleaned it.

So, today is the optimum time. From here on in, every day that passes, the desk will gravitate away from the pinnacle of cleanliness, that it is now. Sad. I might start putting a sheet over it at the end of the night. Good idea.

As time moves on and dust moves in, my general demeanour becomes more fractious. It distracts me and kind of puts me on edge which is not conducive to a good working environment.

My plan is to reintroduce certain items back onto the desk. All of my notes will be rewritten into one notebook, so I can have everything 'just so' and in one place.

Doing this led me to finding a piece of paper with this written on.

Forget the stuff below the small line, that's just image numbers from my SD card, so I know which folders to upload them to.

I'm interested in what's above the line. It's the 'ideal' size an image should be for a Facebook group main page. Seeing this reminded me of where I found this information.

It was from Canva. It was ages before I realised that you could find nearly all image sizes for various applications.

I know there have been many times when I have needed an image for a Facebook post or a tweet, but didn't know what the perfect size should be.

Canva is free to join and although there is a premium version, as yet I haven't found the need for it. Most of the basic utilities cover my needs adequately.

Once you're signed up, the home page gives you a search bar. In the same way that we can get Google Instants, you just type in your desired image type. Below is an example of me searching for anything to do with Facebook.

Now, what's even better, is that if you hover your mouse over the possibilities, the dimensions appear by the side of each one. Like this.

How cool is that ? What was even cooler was how I managed to 'snip' this image without moving the cursor but we'll save that for another day.

One last image for you. This one showing a few of the variations available for Pinterest.

If you already have an image, then now you know exactly what size it needs to be for whichever platform you are putting it on. Simples.

It doesn't take much to please me and this little find, did just that.

Who knows what else I'll find as I work my way through my scribbles. Anyway, I need to get on, turns out that good old Outlook has put another batch of WA notification in the 'Junk' folder, how rude.

Be safe, healthy and happy my friends.

Twack Romero.

I have registered for Canva, had one quick look at it and decided that this tool was not for me...... I might have to reconsider🧐

Good tips Twack Thanks.

And yes I agree that Gichin Funakoshi is an awesome person🥋👊

Hi Roy,
I think you will like Canva. I have designed some pretty wonderful things with it, and I have no design experience.
Barb

Thanks for this Roy. I know what you mean, my first experience with Canva was very 'hit and miss'. Even now, I keep it very simple but it has become easier.
I'm not sure how many books he had out there but the three I read were kind of 'jaw dropping' in places.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have seen from other members here as well that they use canvas for making their own banners etc. for their website.

Yes, I've done the same, there are literally hundreds of templates, which are also very easy to customise.

I use Canva daily. I couldn't function without it... but I have never used the search bar. Usually, I scroll through the suggested templates until I find something. My life would have been so much easier had I seen this before today. Simple things that can make such a difference. Thanks for the tips

You are very welcome Crystal and thank you so much for stopping by. Glad this helped.
I shall also take this opportunity to 'follow' you. Nice to meet you.

And I will follow suit. Nice to meet you also.

Awesomeness.

Thanks for the share. I've used canva for making my Pinterest pins but have not used it for sizing things, as one person told me in the past; it is obvious to the most casual observer, except me. Thank you so much for the heads up. Another very good Post.

You're very welcome Edward and thank you. I came across it by chance otherwise I would still be trawling the net in search of those elusive sizes.

Thanks for sharing this Twack:) Canva is one of my favourite tools, and I decided a while ago to use the pro version. I find the amount and quality of images they provide is fantastic. Also, they no longer charge for any of them if you have a pro subscription. Yes, Canva is also great for finding the right social media sizes:)

You're more than wlecome Kathy and thank you for the info on the pro version. It sounds like extremely good value.

A tip-top tip my friend!
I sorta knew it did that without realising that it was such a useful thing. Thanks for highlighting it!

Dave

No worries. Image sizing was a proper pain for me, still is for website 'Feature Images' but we'll get there.
