Jimmy, You Just Have To Believe

"Jimmy, you just have to believe. Deep inside, in your heart."

"If I believe Mom, will it really happen, I mean really ?"

"Yes it will. If you believe Jimmy, if you really believe."

That's where you have to take yourself. You have to strip everything away and go back to when you were a child. That way, you'll truly be able to believe.

You see, when we were children, there were no 'layers of life' upon us. It was just the nucleus of life. We saw everything for what it was, with no bias or agenda, there were no 'grey' areas. What was our favourite word ? WHY.

Not only that, during those first five years (Depending on where you research) we learn at an incredible rate and it all starts to shape how we grow.

Then inevitable happens, slowly but surely the wonder disappears and the mystery is revealed. Life happens and the layers start being added.

Now when an opportunity arises we're sceptical. We no longer have the invincibility of youth. We look for the 'pitfalls' the 'catch'

Only today, I was looking to subscribe to a utility that I was thinking would help my endeavours. Cost was approx $16 per month (£13). When mentioned in conversation, I was met with, 'that sounds expensive' without so much as a buy your leave. Nothing about how it would help and what were the long term benefits, just cost.

Sorry, am I painting a dismal picture ? Not my intention, just needed to remind you, if you needed it, that we weren't always this way. Shall we get on to belief ?

In my last post, The Seven Traits Of A Champion, one of the traits was 'belief.'

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/twack/blog/the-seven-traits-...

I wanted to just touch on that in its own right. The start of this post, well it just provides a backdrop. I might even get it to make sense, wouldn't that be nice.

Wikipedia makes a meal of the definition:

Belief is the attitude sentient beings have whenever they see something to be the case or regard it as the truth. In epistemology, philosophers use the term "belief" to refer to personal attitudes associated with true or false ideas and concepts.

That's interesting, maybe the discussion heightens when we throw 'faith' into the mix.

Faith, derived from Latin fides and Old French feid, is confidence or trust in a person, thing, or concept.

Oh well, it looks pretty much the same, semantics then. Tamato, tomato and all that. So, when someone tells you, in their motivational speech, that you need to believe in what you're doing, believe in yourself or just to believe that you will succeed, do you ? Really ?

I'm not so sure you do. Mores to the point, why don't you ? Religion. A 'no-no' here but in this instance, just to add context. You will have a denomination (or not and that works also.) Chances are that no matter what anyone ever says to you, you will not be deterred in your belief or faith. Nice one.

So, we know that we can 'believe' in something so strongly that there is no doubt in our mind that it is true. Good, cleared that up then.

When we now look at our business we need to apply the same logic, yes ? You need to muster the same feelings. There should be no doubts as there is nothing less tangible about you succeeding in your business or following your dreams, ambitions and goals. Not if you 'believe' or have 'faith'

Next time someone asks you whether your venture will succeed, you can say, hand on heart, that it will. If you truly believe then there is no other answer, unless of course you actually don't share that conviction and that every time you think about it, half a dozen little 'doubting' thoughts pop into your head.

I am good enough ? There's too much to learn. I don't have enough time. The competition is way too good. What if no one likes my content ? What if no one visits my site ?

There's your half dozen. There are more, plenty more. Bottom line is, you'll need to stop having those thoughts. Easier said than done ? Not really, they're your thoughts, take control. The brain can only focus on one thought at a time, so if it doesn't serve you, replace it with a positive one. It doesn't even have to be positive, you can use a fruit or vegetable. That's made you smile, how about a cabbage ? See, now you are thinking about cabbages. Who knew it could be that easy.

Practice, practice, practice. It won't happen overnight but before long you will have made some alternative associations. Then you will also have momentum. Whenever I think about my own situation I start smiling and more often than not, my face gets warm. Straight up.

Not overly interested in anyone else's 'nay saying' but now, they only cast their doubts once. There must be something in the way I deliver the retort that makes them realise that they are wasting their time. That's another good feeling.

Best wrap it up then. Nothing to see here, move along. Ii was going to leave you with someones wise words of wisdom but I'll save theirs for another day. For now you'll have to have mine:

'Some things in life are inevitable, 'success' is one of mine' .

Well done Twack!
You make a great point.
Your post reminds me of the quote from Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can,
or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
KyleAnn

Thank you KyleAnn. I am an advocate of 'self belief' I think we are all far more capable than we give ourselves credit for. One of the main reasons we don't succeed is because we don't 'think' we can and are too ready and willing to listen to those that tell us that we won't be able to do something.

Excellent post once again.

My hand is on my heart and I am standing at attention. It doesn’t matter what an issue may be I am in control of my thoughts and I am successful. No excuses!

I believe you wrote this for me. I thank you so very much.

Laura

As always, you are very welcome Laura. I never have lazy days, just those where I don't accomplish as much as I wanted to and then again, I have days where I surpass my expectations. It all balances out. Guilt is a waste of emotion. It should only ever serve as a 'reminder' of what not to do in the future.

I like your wise words "Some things in life are inevitable, 'success' is one of mine".

Thanks have a happy Sunday,
Mickey

Thank you Mickey. I've finally got round to making a note of the occasional phrase or sentence that actually makes some sense.

A quote I heard many years ago: " Do the correct activities long enough and you will achieve your goals!"

Hi Bill, that's great quote and so very true. We just need to make sure we choose the right activities. Thank you for that.

The human mind is like a computer. It can be programmed to provide specific results.

People who think negatively most of the time, like bad things are going to happen to them, guess what happens. Bad things do happen. Then they feel vindicated that they were right. And that is sad.

Those who think positively most of the time, have good things happen to them. The strange thing is they don't go around saying that they were right. They accept their good fortune and move on.

Both of these are examples of belief. Belief is a way to program your mind. If you believe good things will happen, the brain will subconsciously direct you to function in ways that draws success to you.

You are on point Twack. Success, or failure, all starts with belief!

Cheers.

Edwin

All true Edwin and so well put. We underestimate our own ability to take charge of our own thoughts and use them to benefit ourselves.
It's a wonderful comment and I thank you for taking the time.

Thanks for your appreciation Twack.

Edwin

You're always very welcome Edwin.

I believe in my Fidelity investments.

That particular ship sailed, for me, many years ago.

Need help getting started anyone please

Hey Angela, looks like you've done Level One, just get stuck into Level 2. Soon be back in the groove.

Great advice Carson.
