Is Anything Really Free ? (And We're Not Talking About Lunch)

So, there's no such thing as a free lunch which leads one to wonder if anything is actually free. There's always a price to be paid somewhere down the line. As Chris de Burgh said "don't pay the ferryman"

Not sure what Chris de Burgh has to do with this, that tune just popped into my head. Maybe it's because over recent times I have witnessed a resurgence of some of those artists that one might be forgiven in thinking have retired to their country homes, spending their time walking Betsy and Freda the lovable yet scatter-brained Redsetters.

Who else then ? Well, we have Neil Diamond (79 and not on the rocks yet) Dame Shirley Bassey (still popping corks at 83) and Sir Cliff Richard (A young one at 80 and probably still has Sue Barker on speed dial)

Apart from being absolute legends, they have all recently released new material and I'm not talking about another rehashed 'greatest hits' album. Just thought you should know, that's all.

I opened up my blog template yesterday morning with all good intentions of commencing writing by 8am and yet here we are now, a day later. It was one f those days when you are busy but by the end of the day you're not sure whether you have accomplished anything.

Maybe I am being a little hard on myself, it was more that I didn't manage to do anything that was on my daily routine list.

I shall share the one thing that seemed to take up most of the morning and let it be a warning that you need to be resilient when it comes to deleting emails of the 'spam' variety, though, had I done that, then I would not be able to share the following.

I had an email from a body known as BusinessSuccess dot com. I'd never heard of them before opening their email and only opened it on the promise of something free. Well, it turns out that there was actually quite a lot of 'free'.

According to their hype, no less than $7k's worth of 'Business-building programs' were up for grabs. I am a sucker for free courses, videos and PDF's as I am a firm believer that there will always be something worth taking away from most things, even if it's just 5% or less, that piece of wisdom or knowledge could make all the difference down the road.

However and here's where we have to decide the actual cost of 'free', it did take me most of the morning to obtain about 25 of the programs on offer (five just weren't relevant to my situation)

In the majority of cases an email address was the cost of admittance, a few were direct downloads and the remainder were sign-ups of one type or another. None required payment or the need to cancel at any time for fear of future billing. In essence, they were all 'gratis' merely eating into the scarce commodity of 'time'.

Subjects covered were wide-ranging and for the most part (save the ones I didn't bother with) useful. They covered such things as video creation, virtual start-ups, FB ads, email marketing, fathoming out how to use LinkeIn, content marketing, podcasting, getting referrals and product launching, to name but a few.

That's your lot my friends, I have to now go and do some serious catching-up. I am also excited, as when I just went into the kitchen do you know what time the oven clock said ? Of course you don't, it would be weird if you did.
