I'm Still Excited

I spend far too much time faffing about trying to come up with catchy titles, fact. I know they're important and there's loads of really good advice on creating ones that are guaranteed to entice the reader onto your post. It's all true but sometimes I just want to write and if I spend half an hour having an internal debate and then trying to incorporate it into my opening paragraph, then the chances are I'll lose my mojo and I'm not about to do that. Not today anyway, you see, I'm still excited and I don't see that ending anytime soon.

'Hey Twack, why are you still excited' I'm so glad you asked. I mean, it's the 14th of January and we're already two weeks into the new year and you'd think that some of the shine would have dulled by now, wouldn't you ? Back to work, back to the grind, the mundane routine of day to day life. You have to remember also, that I started my new year back in December and yet I'm still bubbling away like a pan of eggs on the back of the stove. Does anyone call it that anymore ?

Originally my title was going to be something like 'The learning journey a journey to learn' but it didn't really make sense and it was a bit of a mouthful. Yet the idea had already taken shape and it was to do with yesterdays journey. Then of course we have to explore tangents (my specialty) and before you know it, we're here.

I'm still excited because I am learning. Every day there is something new. Whether that is here

or out there in 'lifeland'. I don't need to tell you how much knowledge there is here, you know already and I'll wager you haven't even scratched the surface, I know I haven't. Still, that's not my point, good though it may well be.

I like to work on the principle, at least going in, that every situation has something to offer. Even in the 'not so good' ones, there might be an opportunity waiting to be discovered. With this is mind, whatever I'm about to do will have the imaginary heading above it that says "What can I take away from this"

Yesterday was a prime example. Nearly eight hours of driving, all told. Actually the journey back was awful, mad rain and the sort that was getting swooshed around by the wind. It wasn't helped by having the Lewis Hamilton Fan Club out in force either. Still, it was a good exercise in concentration.

With the 'dearly beloved' in the back, falling asleep, or resting her eyes, it was down to my second born and I to provide the in-house entertainment. We did quite well. We completely overhauled the education system with a good injection of vocational opportunities, which when leaving age was reached provided the young person with 'skills' and at the same time negated the need for prospective employers to add 'experience needed' to their spiel. Nice one. Not quite at 'white paper' stage yet but close.

We fell into some very easy conversation and covered a number of topics, not least, the conclusion that a 'purple' pipe that followed the road for may miles, was in fact a direct line back to the Cadbury's factory, a never ending supply line of liquid chocolate.

One area that we covered was writing, as he is studying graphics, this was no mean feat. As we 'to and fro'd' I mentioned that I was sitting on a number of pages of fiction but was concerned that my work was boring. Description is where I seem to have an abundance of lack. His theory (which I like) is that it probably wasn't. He qualified this by saying that when we write, we already know what's going to happen, we've explored all the possibilities and it holds no surprises for us. My analogy would be that it's a bit like trying to tickle yourself, you know where you're trying to tickle and your body knows it's coming (This isn't science, just an analogy). Anyway, he kind of blew me away with his insight, as it had never occured to me in those terms.

It doesn't necessarily solve the internal issue though but we came up with a possible solution, which is fairly obvious when you think about it. Have someone else read it. The light bulb that was resting precariously upon my closely shaved head, glowed bright and then exploded. I know, I know, duh. As an avid reader himself, his candidacy was volunteered. I shall sift through the twenty-four unpublished drafts and lay myself open, as I am sure he will give me an honest and unbiased appraisal.

Lastly, as time is moving along at what seems to be breakneck speed, actually I'll finish here. I've just deleted a paragraph and realised I was about to really 'go off on one' It'll save for later.

If I had to liken my excitement, nay, personify it, it would be like one of Phoebe's boyfriends in Friends. If you've not seen it, then my apologies. If you're wondering which one, the character was played by Alec Baldwin. Parker. Hmm, I was going to say he was a bit much, then again, if the cap fits, wear it.

I must dismiss myself and vacate this post.

May a wondrous day unfold for you, like the birth of Narnia happening before your very eyes.

Getting someone else to read your work is a great idea! I often get to the end of stuff I have written and start doubting if it actually has any real value or is going to be interesting. I send it to Heidi to read and wait to be told what needs changed and I always enjoy her (usually positive) feedback. It works both ways too.

Great entertaining reading as always Twack!

It's that one step further than 'accountability' I guess. It's good that you both have that. The words don't always translate the thoughts, I find, so definitely something I need to address.
Appreciate you taking the time to read through Dave, thank you.

Love this quote Live the life you love.:)

Hey Marc, thank you for that, it's one of those quotes that rings true. Not always possible but something to aspire to maybe.

Possible if you believe in it ☺

Wow! You are such an amazing writer. This post was a delight to read. Thank you!

You are so very kind to say that Mickey, thank you. I shall go and feed the dogs with a big grin on my face.

I like your “ what can I take away from this ...”
Everything we do ... that should be a question we ask
Thanks
TIM

I agree!

Thanks Tim, it's my own slant on something Tony Robbins said on one of his audiobooks.
He used to say
"How can I make this better?"
when having to deal with things he wasn't too keen on. He came back from being 'on the road' to be faced with hundreds of emails, so he answered them all whilst in his hot tub. Nice idea.
