I'm Feeling Blue (Site Speeds Update)

Now, I'm sure there are those of you out there that are reading this and thinking 'surely not.' Well, it is official, I'm feeling blue, just not in the way it may first appear. Let's be honest, what are the chances or me ever being 'blue'. I suppose it could happen, if I 'Smurphomorphotised' overnight.

No, it's not going to happen. Why ? well because I really don't see the point and as it's up to me, then I choose not to be 'blue' ever, thank you. On with tale of why the 'blueness'

Sometimes the Universe takes care of its own in the most baffling ways. You spend some time ruminating over issues and coming to some sort of solution, remedy or course of action and the big 'U' decides to throw you a curve ball and it smacks you right 'there' and puts you on your backside. (Have you ever noticed how the best suited words that are the ones you shouldn't use ? Well sometimes ?)

Two weeks ago I had asked a question in regard to my 'Site Speed' results. My desktop figures were good but my mobile were not so. The response was generally along the lines of 'not sure why.' I optimised my images as best I could, even adding 'Smoosh' to see if that helped. All to no avail. Here's the question below.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/everything-wordpress/mobile-...

These were the results.

Not as bad as some but could be better. As my school reports used to say." Has potential but could do better" So, I did what I needed to do and stuck my head in the sand, until today. Today was a day to 'get things done' Onward into 'Site Manager' Oh, it was not pretty. Health was OK (Orange) getting better. Some of my percentages were loooow. Plugins was 0% and feedback was 10 or 20, not sure now.

So, I asked for feedback, five in total. Then I removed some of the plugins that I thought I could do without. (Three of which were recommended by the 'theme', Elementor, which I don't use. Contact Form 7, which I don't use and 'Sierra Addons', which I don't know if I use or not). All that done, I returned to the manager screen and hey presto my site health has soared into the 'blue'. Yay. Now, I'm not sure why but Ii thought I would have a look at the speeds again, curious, I guess. Here's what I found.

Well, I was not expecting that. If I had been 'thinking' about speeds at the start, then I would have checked after each plugin was removed. Hindsight and all that. For now, I will keep things as they are. My plugin percentage is still only at 50% and I only have seven plugins but with the speed results as they are I don't see the need to 'tweak' any further at present.

Anyone know if 'Ad Inserter' is a 'heavy' plugin ?

I could have put the results and a brief explanation back on the 'Questions' thread but I thought this was worth putting here for those of you who might have similar issues.

I hope this has proved helpful in some way and if you need any more info, that I have probably overlooked, then please just ask and I might know the answer, just don't hold your breath. There's more relevance to this post but I have run out of time for the moment. 'Rain check' then.

Fantastic results Twack,
My mobile speeds are not so good either, I guess I need to take some time and play around with the plugins just as you’ve done.
KyleAnn

Thanks KyleAnn, I was in full blown 'Procrastinator' mode on this one. Then I just thought, whatever I do can be undone, so why not try.

Thanks ... Good to know

You're hugely welcome.

Hi Twack,

Those are awesome number's. Great stuff.

I got great desktop speeds but my mobile speeds are too low for comfort.

Thanks for posting,

Michael

Thank you Michael, certainly an improvement. I'd like to say I knew what I was doing but it was trial and error. Still, a win's a win.

Thank you.

I think there is some sense in not crowding your site with plugins.

Best wishes.

Segun

I think your right Segun. Strip it back and add them individually to see how it affects your site.

Awesome progress on your website!

Thanks Eli, appreciate that.

You are very welcome. :)

I'm glad I got told too many plugins is not the way to go right at the start.....thanks mum.
My site has been mobile friendly from the start.

Blue is not your colour by the way.
Daisy

Well, from here on in, I shall be checking each one as and when I try them out, if I feel the need.
Blue suits and brown shoes, what's all that about ?

Good idea.
Blue suits, brown shoes....and a green tie.....yummy!
Daisy

I will bow to your superior fashion sense, as I have none.

Hahaha
I hate fashion, I never follow trends....if it feels good then wear it.
Imagine being trendy....like all the other sheep lol

Daisy

On my 'bucket list' would be one of those wardrobes with a rack the 'same'. One fresh for each day, all exactly the same. Such bliss.

Hahahaha
Bliss

Plugins will do it! I don't want to remove any more of mine, but will consider it. My site speed is not too bad. At least my site health line is blue.

Moving forward I will look at any plugins with 'caution'. I can try them, check the speeds, then decide if it's worth keeping them or not. I didn't know there was a 'blue'.

Glad your speed performance improved significantly by your actions. I don’t use many plugins and only had one or two yellow mobiles. I too also removed a couple and everything went green.

Those pesky plugins, can’t live without them and can’t live with them!

Thanks for sharing.

Edwin

I think and could be wrong, that I should pay more attention to the speeds at this stage, rather than the 'percentage' for the plugins. It's gone blue and I have room for improvement in other areas.

My one site has also Smurfed... kinda scared me at first...LOL
Congratulations on the morphing!

Thanking you. Yes, it was a surprise. Luckily I was monitoring it as it went blue so I could see the line moving in the right direction.
I wouldn't mind trying to get rid of 'Ad Inserter' but I don't know if the 'code' I used it for will disappear also.
