I Should Have Known Better (Rank Math)

It's true, I really should have known better. That said, in this instance, the end result was a positive one.

I love the weekends, even during these weird times when the days all seem to run into one. I can't quite explain why either. I still have the same amount of work and chores to do, but the pressure doesn't seem quite so intense.

Maybe I lulled myself into a false sense of security. It could be that I became complacent and a little bit 'lackadaisical' in my approach to the morning's work.

I always do my 'I really need to do this' items first. Today, I was determined to list some things on EBay and advertise the van on FB Marketplace. If I get 'tyrekickers' for the van then I can always list it on EBay tomorrow.

I rarely use FB for selling, as it can be more hassle than it's worth. It's saving grace is that it's free. I really should adopt the 'beggars can't be choosers' attitude.

Anyway, I did as I requested of myself. Once done, I set about working through the notifications. It can take a while but it is one of the more enjoyable tasks, you just never known what you're going to find. It certainly is like a 'box of chocolates'.

I was almost done, the inbox had been seriously thinned out. Then, I had to reply to a comment on one of the sites and that was when it all started to unravel.

You see, while I was there, I thought I might have a quick look at that whole 'Rank Math' thingy. You may remember that I had installed the plugin a few weeks ago and was dismayed to find that my articles had taken a severe bashing.

The first post I looked at had the envious score of 24/100, It's not that I ignore SEO, it's more that I ignore it. I had planned to go back over the posts at some point, just not this morning.

Turns out that it can be pretty addictive, trying to get that score to go up and into the green, while at the same time making sure that everything read 'right' and not false.

It was actually fun and by clicking on the little blue question mark, (it's actually white in a blue circle) I have learnt a great deal. Truth be told, my lack of understanding when it comes to SEO, is glaringly obvious.

No matter, it would only be a problem if I chose not to do something about it, right ? After just over an hour, I had managed to move the score in an upward direction. I left it at 90/100.

My major failing was in the 'Title Readability' where I was lacking in three out of the four sections. I might go back to it and have a play later. I should have some wiggle room, as I haven't put any of the posts into Google Console or submitted a sitemap yet. We'll see.

It's interesting that I am reminded of the popular cliché 'Fear of the unknown'. That's what it comes down to. We are more likely to procrastinate over things we don't understand or have little knowledge of.

Then, when we actually get round to tackling whatever it is, we realise that it wasn't as bad as we initially thought. We look back and wonder why it took us so long to get round to 'doing'

Change of scenery. I have an admission that I've only just realised. Yesterday's post 'Getting In The Groove' was the wrong content. I had a 'moment' when I totally forgot what I was meant to be writing about and then thought I remembered and carried on writing.

It was only when I came to write this post, that my original thought for yesterday's post came back to me. Of course, by the time I realised, I was already set to write about Rank Math. I really do wonder sometimes.

OK then, time to go and sort through the back of the van. No fear of the unknown there, I just don't want to do it but it's either that or mow the back lawn.

Have spectacular Saturday's, and Sunday's, if I don't see you before.

Stay safe, healthy and happy.

Hi Twack, I found the same with Rank Math. Starting off with a low score and then working through all the elements that gets your score up. Thanks for the blog, easy reading and a catch up on the “to do” list. I like those days where tasks all blend into each other with a feeling of achievement as the sun goes down. Regards Jen

Thanks Jen and you're very welcome. I agree, those days could last forever, in my eyes. It's like we go into 'super productive overdrive' and as the saying goes 'make hay while the sun shines'
Shame not every day can be like that.
Have a good one.

Great job on the increase in SEO and facing the unknown. That is a difficult task for most of us. Good luck with future endeavors. I had a weekend away from the house, and now I have to make up what I didn’t do Friday and Saturday all of today. Wish me luck!

Good luck Erika, I'm sure that you'll soon catch-up, that's what I'm doing at the moment, it's enjoyable though, even if it takes a while.

Hi Twack

Ha-ha-ha-ha, I couldn't help but laugh - it's either sorting the van or mowing the back lawn! So funny! My Mom always laughed when I developed an uncontrollable urge to tidy my cupboards when I was suppose to study for exams! [roll eyes at myself]

Thank you for sharing your experience with Rank Math! I've heard very good things about it, but haven't tried it yet - do you recommend it? Do you think it is better than All-in-One-SEO?

WOW - from 24 to 90 - impressive!! Congratulations!

Much success to you!

Thank you Sharlee, I did enjoy the van cleaning, very satisfying.
I decided to try the pluginf after reading the answers to Alex's question. I've never used AIO to it's full potential, so it would be hard to make a comparison, especially as I have also only used Rank Math once.
So far so good though.

You are so right about the "procrastinating over things we don't understand or have little knowledge of." It is such a shame that we always take so long to just stroll into the unknown. I am guilty of that. for sure. Yet here we are at WA pursuing our online business.

Thank you Carol. Maybe we should just do these things right away. Apply Mel Robbins 5-second rule. Or, it's to allow us time to rumminate, weigh up the pros and cons before diving headlong in. I like 'Caution favours the brave'😊

I think that in the long run we kind of follow our instinct. That is the best that we can do.

I didn't read through it all yet, as I'm pressed for time, I tried skimming through but with no headings and only paragraphs it just seemed to go on and on, I have used rank math in the past so I'll definitely be returning to finish read later on. Best of luck.

After skimming through some of the comments I was too excited to know what was up so I went back and read through a bit more.

Hi Moses, I thank you for going the extra mile. Rank Math does seem to be getting some good press of late but it's still down to us to make the best use of it.
Perfect opportunity for a 'follow'. Thanks again.
