Glutton For Punishment

There are other phrases that come to mind but 'glutton for punishment' seemed the most apt, in this situation.

How's everyone's Monday shaping up ? I love Mondays, there's no other day quite like it, in my humble opinion.

First order of the day was to get two tyres put on the car as they were below standard when it came to the annual 'Ministry' check over. It's booked in for Thursday for a couple of minor jobs and then we'll be legal for another year. Yay.

The domain transfer hasn't gone quite as smoothly as one would hope, it kept failing to go through. I shall try again later and if still no joy, then I will engage 'Site Support', there's nothing those whiz kids can't do.

After finally opening yet another parcel this morning, it was high time to try to resurrect

another computer. This is one that was built by one of my son's friends. It was basically a freebie but when it finally arrived it soon became apparent that all was not as it seemed.

There was no where for a display to plug into. At first, I thought it was just an older type of connector but on further investigation it turned out that there was no built in (integrated) graphics chip.

To ease the pain, I swapped it with a spare one I had at the time, that eased some of the disappointment. It has been sat under a tea towel for about a year, so I thought it was high
time I pulled my finger out and got it working.

This is the graphics card I found online, supposedly it will cure the lack of display status.

Considering the size of the one I ordered in error, I was not expecting this. It's huge. After I have finished this post I will begin installation, then we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

There is one slight problem, as to be expected. The display output is a DVI type that requires a certain type of monitor (or adapter, which I do not possess) with the same type of connector. The good news is that I do have one but it's in the conservatory. Can you see it ?

What do we do ? We laugh, long and hard and till the tear ducts are raw. Still, it needs to be done, It's been waiting patiently enough and anyway, I really want to see if it actually works.

Subject change. Do you remember I was trying out a 'social media management' tool called 'Zoho Social'. Well I'm halfway through the trial period and I have been on it about three times. I really must try to get some use out of it soon, otherwise how am I to make an informed decision ?

One good thing that has come from it though. One of the few platforms that you can attach the software to is LinkedIn. It's actually two-fold, as you can post to the main feed and also to your company page.(Company page ?)

It would seem that I haven't got one of those, in fact, it was news to me that they even existed. Today I decided to create one, regardless of the fact that I do not possess a 'company' in the true sense and meaning that LinkedIn are referring to.

I mean, technically I do, but I only set it up to make sure no one else took the name before I finally got round to doing something with it. That hasn't happened yet but never say never.

Anyway, with a little bit of lateral thinking, a new company page was formed. This will be associated to that domain I am transferring. Gosh and bother if things just aren't moving so quickly.

Right, I'd better go and see if I can retrieve this monitor without the need for grappling hooks and carabiners.

Hope you're having a swell time out there.

Twack Romero.

Sounds as if you had as fun a day as I did. I know you have kindly advised previously that its blood out of stone only managed to get a few drops more to keep me from dropping it from a great height to shatter into smithereens.

Glad you are as always thinking on your feet and managing to circumvent the official bureaucracy however in all my years' creativity trumps any stick in the mud!

I must admit that is not what I expected to see in a conservatory!!

Leave you to your machinations!

It's one of the drawbacks of not having a garage. I did retrieve the monitor, plus a couple of old style 'mouse's '(not sure if the plural is 'mice' in this case) and managed to have a tidy up (even threw away some boxes), so it doesn't look quite so bad.
You have done well to control your urges, that takes years of practice, many pieces of non-compliant technology has met its end in a frenzied John Cleesesque' display of frustration. Ah, those were the days.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your ambassadorship, that's decidedly brilliant and thoroughly, richly deserved

Felicidades, Rami,

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Hello Taetske,

Long time no hear!!

Very happy to hear from you and trust all is well!! ;

R.

Thank you Rami, all is well in the south.
Redoing my old websites and started a new one in May, never a dull moment.

All the best, Taetske

That's great to hear Taetske there is a lot of get up and go in you yet!!

Take care!

I have 4 memory sticks and two cards left over from the last time I tried fixing an old computer. The miracle, I think, is that after reordering the right stuff (from NewEgg) and a little luck I finally did get it to work. All except the bluetooth card which still has some dumb incompatibility I can't resolve.

Sounds like a result to me John. They can sometimes be very illogical, which I find both puzzling and infuriating.

Well ya, It can be real frustrating because so much of the "tech" is by trial and error. Especially gnarly sometimes when working with older hardware. If I already knew it all, I would more likely have a newer system and not need to know. lol

That's very true.
It was fun today trying to find both a mouse and a keyboard that didn't have usb connectors on. This one takes the old style green and purple PS/2 type.

Good afternoon, Twack,

I got lured to your post because of the title.
I thought: Aha, somebody has tummy ache because of overeating, you know what.
It turned out to be different from what I thought so I will be leaving again.

Greetings from the south f Spain,

Hey Taetske,

Health minds think alike. Hahahahahahaha! i really miss you my friend. Have you heard from Fleeky?

Maxine

Good evening Maxine,

Yes, healthy minds. I just had my weekly ice cream after dinner.
I thought Twack had overeaten with his birthday cake.
I asked this question about Fleeky yesterday from Keisha. I have been in the background for some months, so I am not up to date.
It seems Fleeky is ok, I really should send her a PM.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

p.s. you should join our group on FB?

Sorry to disappoint you Taetske but I thank you for your concern.🙏

No worries, just kidding.

Hope all goes well Twack.
Joe

Thanking you kindly sir, so far so good.😁

T,
You might be safer with the grappling hooks and carabiners!

As for Mondays, I enjoy them as well. They seem to be one of my more productive days!

I did get somewhat lost on Social Media, and have decided that FB and Pinterest will be my main focus (for now). There are just so many to 'master'...

On to MONDAY!!
S

S,
I have Managed to scale the heights, retrieve the monitor and no one got injured, that's a win in my book.
I had the same experience this morning with FB. Focusing on one or two is how I have been approaching it, though there are routine things I do with the others. This is one of the reasons I have been looking at 'social media management' tools, to see if I can save some time somewhere.
