Comments, Comments And Likes. Note To Self.

This is indeed a note to self. Comments, comments and likes will act as a reminder to myself, now that I have it down in black and white. I'm sure I've read something recently about declaring something publicly is a way of making sure you follow through. Has someone blogged about it ? Not sure, it will come to me.

I know I talked about some memory stuff a post or two back and last night I had one of those events. I take a 'win' wherever I can, why not, if it makes you feel good, however fleeting. Years ago, when there was enough time to watch TV, we used to be into 'Frasier'. It was a natural follow on from 'Cheers'. Both are up there on my top ten.

Anyway, yesterday, my wife asked me if I could remember Frasiers Dad's name. This then led to trying to remember most of the lead cast, including the dog. The whole exercise really had my brain working and as per previous times, some names to a while to come back to me.

Back to the matter in hand. I write this, as stated, to remind myself and in doing so, maybe remind others of good deeds that can be done simply. The first is something I fall foul of quite often and is mildly frustrating.

Site Comments. Not a debating point. I enjoy the whole thing. It gives me the opportunity to learn on more than one level. First, whatever the subject matter is, the chances are it will give me some new knowledge. Second, it allows me to see, firsthand, how other members construct their sites. This, in itself, is invaluable.Win win.

Here's where I let myself down and cause perpetual frustration. I keep dropping under the fifty comments needed to earn from leaving comments. If you're new, then a brief insight. Basically, once you have reached a total of fifty approved comments, then, any you leave after that you will earn $0.50. This is done on a rolling thirty day time period. The problem I have, is that I might miss a day, here and there and when I come back, I'm below the fifty threshold and playing catch-up.

I know it's not always possible to leave comments when you want, as they are not always available. That said, if you manage to qualify and leave at least two comments a day, that's $30 in a month. If you have an annual subscription, that's paid for, right there. Plus, it will keep you on the 'qualified' line. Here's what to watch out for. If on any particular day you manage to have a really good session and maybe leave five or six, or more, comments, then in thirty days, that amount will be deducted from your total. I must have had a monster 'sesh' as my number was at 57 and then two days later it was at 47. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Next, again for me, as this is something I would like to try to stick to. Comments on WA posts.

There have been a few articles I have read over the last few months about leaving 'decent' comments on other members posts. Comments that are of 'value' and maybe engage others to comment or the author to extend a worthy reply. Got it. Not always possible, I know, sometimes the post doesn't warrant it and a 'Well done' or 'Congratulations' is more in order due to its nature. Not all posts require lengthy debate, after all. Anyway, this above isn't my chagrin to myself.

I am trying to leave more comments on newer members posts. Yes, I understand that time is a premium for everyone and you can't be expected to comment on every new post that appears. If that were possible, we'd all be here all day and never achieve what we need to do for ourselves. So, my plan, for me, is to try to comment on a couple of newer members posts regularly. This came about when I had commented on a post and noticed that the author had written over thirty posts in their short tenure, however, there were very few comments on each post, literally one or two.

What struck me was the tenacity of the member. Even though there was little encouragement, they were still persevering. I thought that if they can make the effort they I will do the same and comment. Like I said at the beginning, this is a 'note to self' and something that I will be trying to continue with.

Lastly, you'll be pleased to hear, is the 'Like' button. I rarely use it. This is not a conscious choice, I just forget it's there. I read a post and leave a comment, then move on, totally forgetting to 'like' It's like it's not even there. If I comment, the chances are I have enjoyed the post, so why not 'like' it ? Sometimes I will click on it, if I haven't left a comment. This is another area I would like to improve on. It takes a millisecond and can make a difference, maybe only small but still a positive one.

That's it. Sorry it's turned into an essay, that wasn't my intention but I wanted to 'out' myself so that it gives me the incentive to follow through. Hopefully the site comments section will help some of you avoid my issues.

Have an absolute 'belter' of a day.

I haven't started the comments for cash phase of my plan yet, as I am still battling with my old friends time and energy. As always your post and your motivation comes from one of paying it forward and adding the most value to what you do. I love popping in and finding you have written a new blog, it is like a calm voice of reason in a very noisy confused frightened world. Much Love Sara x

Always makes me smile when I see your name on the comments, I miss it.
It's good to see that 'time and energy' are your friends. My relationship with them is 'cordial' at best, they'll warm towards me again, I'm sure.

My old friends time and energy are in fact acting as saboteurs to me currently, giving me no time and draining me of my energy. However I will forgive them, like the good little Buddhist that I am.

ps. Always makes me smile to be leaving the comments. It is good to be back, even if it might be a dumping my dirty laundry and running kind of a visit ; )

I'm up for the 'washing'. Just had a new machine delivered. The old one (14 yrs plus) was unrepairable as spares no longer exist. It was a freebie under one of those insurance policy things, the only one we have running. It comes with Wi-Fi ??? I wonder if there's an App for loading, emptying, folding and ironing as well.

It was long but interesting. I am new here and still finding my way around the platform, thanks for the info about comments as feed backs. Now I know one can make money commenting.

Thanks Joan, sorry for the length, I can waffle on sometimes. You might find this of some interest. It goes into leaving comments a bit more and there are some links to other really good posts.

Thanks for sharing this post. Best regards.

Brian

You're welcome Brian, I always appreciate you taking the time to read through them. Have a great weekend.

I did become a certified commenter when I joined but it then became a bit competitive to get the comments gigs and I just let it slide.
However I also make an effort to comment on the blog posts of new members as I remember how good it felt when people commented on mine at the start

That's it exactly Dave, my laboured point at the heart of it. It does feel good when we recieve comments especially at the start. Those first few weeks for any starter member can be touch and go as to whether they stay or not.
I was taken aback at the very beginning by how encouraging other members were. My posts were short and not overly well written, yet others still found it in themselves to take the time to leave positive comments.

Fraiser's Dad... Martin
As for a more in-depth 'comment' here, you've said it all!

I was stuck on Freddy for the dogs name, for about ten minutes before it popped back in as Eddy. Sad that I am, I was chuffed. After watching 'Cheers' I thought I would struggle with the spin-off but I loved it, cringeworthy as it was at times. Weirdly though, 'Niles' has just appeared as a character in something else I've been trying to watch, sporting a beard, no less.

Outta the park again Twack! Great post and one we often forget. Thanks for the tap on the shoulder

You're welcome Joe and thank you for taking the time. I've 'named and shamed' myself and now have no where to hide. Accountability can be liberating.

We’re in it together!

Hi, Twack! I think people commenting on comments on WA itself was about questions asked. Lots of people respond but only a few attempt to answer. I find that annoying too when someone responds just to say they don't know the answer.

I haven't seen a blog post complaining about OTHER comments on WA. All of them have value, even "awesome post" comments. In fact, those comments help people who have created training level their training up just as much as more 'valuable' comments.

I think people are waaay too picky about site comments adding specific value to their site. As evidence by WA, most organic comments are not 'valuable'. That's okay! No one should be trying to manipulate what people want to say in comments, especially organically. All comments have value. I understand why our Site Comments platform requires longer comments to encourage relevant comments. But I think some people take that to me other types of site comments and comments here on WA as not providing value.

Don't change who you are just to please people. I want honest comments on my site AND WA. If someone is not thinking anything else but saying 'thank you' that's cool. I don't want to try and force more. Either they will not comment at all or it sounds forced and fake. So just be yourself!

Rochelle, a pleasure to have you here and with such a detailed response/reply, thank you.

Reading back through my post, as is quite often my 'failing' I didn't convey one of my points as well as I could have. In regard to commenting on WA blogs it was merely to put across my own feelings that I could do more for those who are just starting out. I don't have a lot to offer on the 'business' side but I can offer support. Blogging anywhere, let alone here at WA, can be a daunting prospect for anyone, let alone those who are at the beginning of their journey. Putting yourself 'out there' and receiving one or two comments can be demoralising for some. I was impressed that this member was not perturbed and continued to write and publish. For me, I just wanted to show support as I know how rewarding it is when you get a notification that someone has left a comment.

Good to bring this up

Comments can be a pain, just like feedback... especially when the same keep commenting.... and you never get a chance to do so, since all comments and feedbacks are given.... a better spread would be a plus.

This being said, comments and feeback are awesome, except for the few who spam you to get money with always the same nonsense...

....

I've been lucky so far and not had the pleasure of the 'scam' responses.
I agree on the feedback being awesome. I've had numerous feedbacks and most of them duplicate the same issues, which is a good thing and makes me take notice.

Yes...
Very helpful

Liked them cool reveals and notes.

Cheers Twack

You're very welcome Robert. Making myself visibly accountable.
