Living in Florida is a great privilege! We are so fortunate to have some of the best weather on the planet. Winters are extremely mild. Where I live on the west coast we rarely have a frost, and almost never freeze.

I live in a semi-tropical lakeside paradise! I have the pleasure of enjoying the beauty of this wonderful place every day!

I am surrounded by the beauty of nature!

Here is a young Barred Owl. One of a family of four that live nearby and allow me the honor of observing them from as little as 30 feet away.

Usually around dusk these beautiful owls will be on the hunt looking for snakes, rodents, lizards and the like. This particular young owl is just learning his hunting skills. Until recently, one of the parent owls would catch his dinner and bring it to him, but now he has learned to find and catch his prey on his own.

While it is often a most beautiful place to be, into every life some rain must fall.

This image was taken late afternoon yesterday. In the distance is a thunderstorm brewing.

It is a small taste of things to come as we prepare for Tropical Storm Colin.

Here on the lake we have received about 4.5 inches of rain already since last night and we are expected to get quite a bit more.

Tropical storm force winds are whipping up the waves on the coast, and a few trees are down. A new moon, and incoming tide will likely join forces to create some minor coastal flooding.

The governor has declared a state of emergency in 34 counties. Emergency Operations Centers are online and preparing for the challenges the community will face.

So, as the rain continues to fall outside, I am happy to be here. Inside. Listening to the whistling wind and the falling rain. And working towards the same goals we all share here.
