An intrinsic part of our activity here at WA is writing blog posts. It's even one of the factors that our rank depends on. Yet, a lot of us, members, find it difficult to write blog posts quite often.

Me Too

Until recently, I found myself in the same situation. But after examining a number of posts, including profiles of other members, I soon realized that there was actually no reason why I had been crawling when it came to posting.

Root Cause

This slow pace of posting generally comes from our desire to want to produce perfect articles. And it's because that's the way we were trained in our educational system: to write excellent compositions in order to make a pass in our respective courses. Hence, we come to WA with that school /university mentality, subconsciously fearing that we are going to be "graded" according to how well written our post is, which is a big mistake on our part.

The Effect

As a result, when we find out that we haven't got a "five-star" article, we tend to do one of the following: endlessly try to perfect the post (which costs us so much time), or delete it outright or save it as a draft perpetually, waiting for the perfect moment - the moment when we will be entirely free and get in the proper "blog-post-writing" mood - to put together a masterpiece. Unfortunately, that perfect moment never comes. And all we see is days, weeks, months, and sometimes years going by without us posting as we actually would like. As the saying goes, "success is to those who dare," (not to those who stare).

Try This

If you are a member who's stuck in a similar situation, simply take out time and read posts by other members. And you'll soon observe that there are blog posts of all shapes and sizes. Some are just a few lines; others are a couple of paragraphs, while others may be an entire page. Yet they are all considered as BLOG POSTS.

So, you see that it's a waste of time endlessly striving to publish something flawless. Besides, you are even preventing your WA rank from increasing. So, why kill yourself trying to produce an impeccable blog post? Remember, you can always "rectify" after publishing.

The Solution?

Just take to your keyboard and start typing whatever is on your mind. You don't even need outlines (except you are quite used to using them when writing). Just write/type according to your inspiration. Wherever your inspiration for that subject ends, you simply end as well. Your blog post could be anywhere from a few lines to a couple of pages. That's your blog post. Edit it to minimize errors, and then click the PUBLISH button. Just like that. (And just in case you are caught up by time or some schedule, simply save it. But remember to return to complete it soonest - with absolutely no delay).

The Result

And you will find that the number of your posts will start to go up: from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3 and so forth, as your rank increases. Continue doing this, and you would soon see that your dashboard is full of posts.

Conclusion

Remember, WA is not meant for professional writers; it is rather meant to make you express your ideas as naturally as you can.

And you see... This blog post in its original form took me a little over 15 minutes to compose. I have edited it, and BAM!, it's out for you to read. You too can do the same. Best of luck!

Yes, Cora. Putting it into action will certainly pay off. Best of luck!

Great idea Trodvies, I have similar problem and need to learn to change my mind set.
Thanks for sharing.

That's just what I've done. You too, can. Good luck!

I am trying to post but not just write rubbish that wastes members time. Not worried about ranking even though I am up there at the moment. Mainly because I have some spare time and I am a chatterbox, online.
But I agree that the more we write the better we get at putting our thoughts into readable content. So practice will make us better, if not perfect.
Cheers Kerry Ann

Thanks for the comment, K A. My regards!

Great post!! Write it from the heart about something you are passionate about and your audience will love you for it.
Write, post, learn and write some more.

Mark

Exactly! Thanks for that, Mark.
