My Amazon OneLink Nightmare.

Now you can monetize your traffic from Europe and Japan with OneLink ... or can you?

Like many of you, I’m sure, I received an email from Amazon on the 2 of November, informing me of an update to OneLink that helps monetize my traffic from Europe and Japan ... Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Japan were now open to me in applying for an affiliate account with them, with promises and improved shopping experience for my international visitors by automatically redirecting them to their local Amazon storefront to complete their purchase.

Upon signing into my American Amazon Associate account I learned of the new countries that have joined Amazon’s amazing new OneLink option. Needless to say, I was tickled pink.

In viewing Amazon’s integration guide, I found the following links:

...along with a detailed instructions to help me complete this task.

Having already signed up and been accepted by UK and Canada’s Amazon, I looked forward to joining the other 5 NEW countries whom, I was informed by email have now joined OneLink.

Thankfully my favourite browser Firefox offers a FREE AddOn translation so my not speaking any of those languages was NOT an issue. Apparently Chrome is also able to translate.

This AddOn made it possible for me to understand what I was to do in each of the textboxes within each site. Not only that but there were a LOT of similarities in the questions asked by EACH ... well that is until I got to Japan’s Amazon. That’s when I started having problems.

Thankfully the American Associate support staff helped me by suggesting I contact the Amazon support in Japan explaining my issue and asking for help. This, I did ... and they were very quick to reply too, I’d like to add here.

The Japanese staff suggested I try again. When I did, this time, I received the SAME form the other 4 countries offered me, so all was pretty much straight forward. Pheeeew!

Now I had all my new Amazon accounts entered into my OneLink and I was able to add my new OneLink to my sites before retiring from my office rather late last night.

Checking my email inbox this morning is when I realized just how BIG a nightmare signing up for other countries Amazon accounts can be. Each email I received had to be translated, and 3 out of the 5 refused my personal blog. Two of the 3 who refused my blog, claimed they could not see my website (really?!).

Oh ... but I am to feel free to apply again if I’d like.

Hmmmm ... now, do I really need to bother adding these countries?

I mean, really ... how many visitors have my sites ever even had from Germany, Japan, and Spain anyway.

France and Italy are quite happy with my personal blog, and they’ve allowed me to join them. So ... is it REALLY worth my effort to reapply for the other 3 again?

The answer to this question will be the determining factor, moving forward.

My reason for sharing this experience with all members here is to hopefully encourage you that you are NOT alone when it comes to days/nights like this was for me.

Congratulations on your workarounds Trish. Things can be frustrating!

They SURE can Michael.
Am hoping others won't be discourages ... just forewarned. :-))

Wow!

I know, right ... Thanks Trevor.

Just don't YOU be discouraged from TRYING to sign up too ... please. That is not the point in my sharing my story here.

Hi Tiblu,
Congratulations for the ones you were able to achieve. I was able to sign up only with United Kingdom, haven’t tried another.

Well Bibian please, do NOT let my frustration discourage you.

DO try to sign up. Just know that if you DO get turned down ... for whatever reason ... that you are NOT alone.

Too many members act though the world has stopped turning when we bump into a wall like this. When in fact, this can be simply viewed as a test to see how badly we want something.

I signed up for One Link when it first came out and was accepted in Canada and UK. But now it seems that I'm no longer signed up. It is impossible to understand why Amazon doesn't just automatically handle all of this for all affiliates. They should have one sign up for their affiliate program and that should cover everything. Having to sign up for each country separately makes no sense.

Oooh ... well than Tom, I can help you with that. Each country has it's own rules, therefore Amazon in EACH country is being treated though a separate company ... even though, at the top, they are the same.

It SURE would be nice if being an affiliate of Amazon worldwide would be easier ... buuuuut then again ... that would mean world government ... and, I for one am not ready for that stage. No waaaay. :-))

Thanks for the response. As my handle should imply, I am against centralization of all types. But we are working with the devil here - G, fb, A, etc. all intel agency creations designed to control the herd.

Two thumbs up! LOL!

The saying states that troubles shared are troubles halved, but the same seems to apply to experiences of worth.

Thanks

Amen ta' that Stan!

Hi Trish, sounds like fun I am having enough troubles just trying to get my Facebook business pages to work properly. I wish they would make it easier.
Cheers Kevin

Ahhh ... Kevin, we've all just gotta' look at it this way. If it was easy, more people would be doing this. ;-)) But, I do get where you're coming from.

Hi there
thanks for sharing this info
its a nightmare, for sure
they don't make it easy for us
I had success with some of the onelinks joining links, but with others I had some terrible issues.
I eventually decided on the most important ones, where most of my traffic was coming from and I left it at that
cheers PB

Yup Phil, me thinks I'll be doing the same.

Thanks for sharing, Trish.

You're welcome Roger!

I did it as instructed but now reading your post wonder if I was accepted. I got all these foreign emails but didn’t even think of trying to translate. For all I know now I also wasn’t accepted.

First thing I did was translate them Michel, and now I'm GLAD I did. LOL ... I MIGHT try the 3 again later ... maybe.

I gave up. Trying to sign up in UK - no go, they could not locate my account. Brazil-that worked fwiw. I spent quite a bit of time on this then decided to maybe get back to it later. Oh well.

Thank YOU Dianne ... so neither one of us are alone in feeling frustrated when applying to the different countries, huh. ;-))
