Thousands of Feet Above Ground

I'm currently sitting on an airplane en route to Los Angeles where I am moving. It's been a pretty hectic week, but thank G-d, I've reached this moment!

Normally, I'd be taking advantage of the two empty seats beside me, stretched out and relaxing with my iPod, but I know that it's going to be a busy next few days and I really wanted to share this with you all.

So, I took a deep breath, got my work mode focus on and not only pumped out this post, but also managed to write up a new post for my website which hasn't had action happening on it for the last 3 months! Anyway...

The Challenge

I am going through Brittany’s Ideal Me Challenge and was going through the list of questions she suggests that we ask ourselves and I liked them so much that I decided to write them down in my little pink notebook.

I am sharing them here because you all are my support group and I know that putting this out there makes it much more real.

So, here goes:

My Ideal Me Vision

·If money were not an issue, my ideal job would be running educational workshops for Jewish teens around the world.

·My career role models are Ta (my grandfather), Steven Kamb, Kyle and Carson, Nomadic Matt, Tim and Craig (my CrossFit coaches), Chris Guillebeau, Tim Ferris and Tony Robbins (amongst others). Although they work in different industries, these people all tread on common ground; they chose their passion as their career and they work as they wish.

·Right now I’d rather work at a job that I’m not so passionate about that offers great pay, so that I can live on my terms in the future. As the saying goes: “Live now like others don’t, so that you can live in the future like others don’t.”

·I enjoy relaxing by lying on the couch and thinking, listening to music or reading a good Harry Potter or Nicholas Sparks book.

·These are the top priorities that I am looking for in a life partner: someone with self-respect and respect for others; G-d fearing and passionate about Judaism; generous; makes me feel safe and secure; makes me feel comfortable; encourages me and believes I can fulfill my dreams; accepting of others while maintaining his standards; constantly seeking to challenge himself and grow. In return, I would like to be a partner who exemplifies that those qualities.

·While I would love to fit into smaller size clothes, living a healthy lifestyle is more important to me than appearance and therefore my eating and exercise habits will reflect that.

·I would like to be in bed before midnight and get 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

·I would like to be fluent in Hebrew and Russian.

·I would like to be a skilled ukulele and violin player.

·I would like to travel to 1-3 new countries each year; either alone or with friends and family.

·I would like to help financially support the schools and organizations in my community, starting with the high school I went to. Due to our financial situation, my parents received a tuition cut and I would really like to express my appreciation for all that I have gained from high school by paying up my tuition in full.

No Financial Goal?!

I was about to add a monetary goal here, but realized that the reason I would like to make money is not just to make money, but to support the above vision. Therefore, my financial goals would just be a planning to step in achieving those objectives.

What's Your 'Ideal Me' Vision

Feel free to chime in below with your 'Ideal Me' vision. Let this be a place where you can put that stuff into words and let us all support you!

Cheers,

Stephanie

I love your goals! So realistic! Great post.

I don't like travelling because I like to be at home all the time. So this is my goal. :)

May you attain each one of your goals. Blessings!
Hilda

You have fantastic goals!

Thank you :)

To know a lot more than I know now lol

That's what we're always looking to achieve!

Wow! That was beautiful and exciting! Good job. Like Carla, we are facing a tough retirement ... as we were also "wiped out" financially. Unlike Carla, I LOVE to travel, so along with extra retirement income ... I would like enough to do some traveling. I love learning about new people and new cultures ... so when I travel, I like to be and mix with the locals ... not the travelers resorts. I would love to be able to help my grandchildren with college expenses. So when my business is up and running ... I plan on being a traveling granny ... popping in to visit my poppits and regale them with tales of my travels ... until they're old enough to travel with me! M

Thank you for your kind words, Meloldy :-)

I really like this vision of the retired you! I totally understand what you say when you talk about traveling like the locals! I do actually enjoy the typical touristy type things, but my favorite part of traveling is just wandering around the city and watching the locals, etc...

I was in college in England with a second cousin of mine from London (I'm from Toronto) who I became really good friends with. She just got married and I really wanted to go to the wedding and asked my mother and grandmother to join me. They did and my grandmother even brought her sister along! It was so nice doing a multi-generational trip and I can't wait till your grandchildren are old enough to join you too!

Last year we took a muti-generational trip to Las Vegas ... my daughter (35) myself (60) my aunt (71) and my mom (84) all flew into Vegas from different parts of the country. We stayed 7 days ... and we had a blast! More about the visiting and the togetherness ... did a couple of shows ... had some great meals ... did some shopping .... and a little gambling. We also rented a car and did some touring outside of the city. It was great. M

That's awesome! Isn't traveling awesome!? And then throw some family into the picture and it's a sweet deal :)

Fantastic!

I've never really thought much about it. I don't like to travel, so that's out. My one big goal is to allow us to retire on more than just social security, as we got wiped out a few years ago. That's my big goal, retirement. Getting tired of us working multiple jobs and getting older by the minute. So if that's an Ideal Me Vision, there you have it! Good Luck with yours!

I'm planning for my retirement too, Carla :-)

But I challenge you to outline your goals - not in terms of 'being able to retire comfortably', but by answering the questions of what you want to be spending your time doing during retirement that you'll be able to do with the income from your online business. Make sense?

I don't do things that precisely. Just not me. I understand what you're saying, though. I just want to be able to do what I want on any given day, to be perfectly honest. I've had 40+ years of doing things on other people's schedule. :)

Ok, whatever works for you! I totally hear you :)

You, Cookma and me! The same challenges!
