Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse got it write when they wrote,

"It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, and I'm feeling good!"

January 1st. The first day of the first month of a new year.
What more perfect moment, what better time to mark the start of a new beginning?
A day of reflection on the last year, a day of introspection and a day of resolutions for the coming year.

I was speaking with a dear friend of mine from Moscow yesterday and she's quite stressed as she just failed 5 of her 7 exams. She's a dedicated, hard working, smart girl who's in a prestigious, English speaking university. Technically, she should just be kicked out, but there is one other option for her.
It's a mere two words that mean a lifetime of change. We're all aware of these words and we here them so often we barely register their meaning.

Second chance.

Yes, she has a second chance to prove herself. To try again and show her school, her teachers, her parents and most importantly, herself that she can do it.
We are constantly presented with second chances - to retake a driving test, extend a deadline or unfortunately, get put on probation.
BUT a second chance is only good if you use the opportunity. Repeating past actions and doing the same thing you tried the first time round, won't get you too far. To take advantage of a second chance, you need to change. Change the way you parallel parked, change so you no longer procrastinate when attempting to write that article, change your behaviour.

We all had new resolutions last year that we were so sure would be fulfilled and accomplished. But, the days passed, and things came up and plans changed and suddenly we couldn't even look at those written commitments to ourselves because we were afraid to fail and disappoint ourselves.

This year, you can change that!
Think about what didn't work last year. And more than that, figure out why. Once you retroactively pinpoint what didn't work, come up with a different plan so that this year will not simply be a repeat of last year. Make this year DIFFERENT!
