Hey y'all!

Hope you're all doing well :-)

Aaaahhhh! It's been such a busy, busy last few weeks! I love my job, but it's so stressful and sometimes I wonder if that's even possible. If it's really causing me so much stress, maybe I don't love it? It is my dream job, but maybe my dreams have changed...

Regardless, I've totally crashed. I'm overwhelmed, exhausted, and wanting to sneak under my covers for the next week, but I can't - I'm running the social program of a weekend retreat starting tomorrow... I'm excited, but aaaahhh!

Will you please offer some other suggestions of what to do when this happens??

Thanking this wonderful community in advance!

Hi Stephanie, Just take a walk, a walk to nowhere and while walking try to think about only positive things people have done. Positive things about your friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues...anyone you can think of. When you come back, do something nice for yourself or somebody. The next day, just stay positive even though you do not like what you are doing, stay positive.Hope it will work for you, Good luck.

Great ideas! Thank you

You are welcome Stephanie. Good luck

A retreat is good.

Slow breathing exercises. Comfortable chair, sitting up. Feet planted to the floor, arms limp to the side or on an armrest. Inhale and exhale slowly, emptying your lungs, and slowly inhale.

Hasn't taken more than five for me. You may need to double that maybe? There are others. If this doesn't work, get back with me.

The junk food has gotta go, love. Bad for the brain and body.
Know this as a neuroscientist with 30 plus years in medicine. ^_~

Go get yourself a massage! They always help me rewind and de-stress.

Yeah, gotta book that into my schedule :)

I would recommend a sport practices in a regular basis, at least an hour a week and preferentially in a team or group of friends.

Yup! This is literally the best outlet ever!
I do CrossFit twice a week and it is totally my drug! I come home on a total high with the best attitude ever :) I wish I could do it more often, but don't think that would be too good for my body just yet...

May be only needs time to become fit. But the main thing is all about keep stress away is not?

I would recommend a regular sport practices, with at least an hour weekly, preferentially in a group of people or team.

Figuring out stress control is a tricky thing. First is it good stress or bad stress? For example the job I escaped from about a month ago overworked and underpaid me. If that is the case best to just get away from the situation. But on the other hand even good stress can be overwhelming some times. Ever heard the phrase, "no man needs a vacation so much as he who has just had one"? Even if it is your dream job remember to take short breaks from it from time to time.

However it is entirely possible that the stress is not actually coming from your job but from an anger with yourself for breaking your diet. What sort of diet were you on? Is it truely a healthy one? So many diets focus on something or entirely cut out something else and thereby cause an imbalance in the body. Also are you addicted to junk food? I know I am and the fact that the junk food can easily be obtained at reasonable prices while healthy food costs a pretty penny and is more difficult to obtain doesn't help.

But may I suggest the Mediteranian diet. Which I have been easing myself I to and enjoying very much. Actually it's more of a lifestyle than an a diet. And don't let anyone tell you it's a milk free diet as the people of the mediteranian area invented such yummy things as yogurt and kefir. This diet has a base of vegetables and fruits instead of grains. Grains are still a part of it but not as much. Sourdough, whole grain pastas and unleavened breads are mainly suggested. For meat it Is mainly pescitarian but allows small amounts of other meats. It embraces good fats (which) fights the effects of bad fats) instead if forbidding fats all together.

But best of all good stress activities like being with friends and family, not hurrying meals exersize programs and so forth are part of it. Gotta go! Late for work lol!

I read a book a few hours ago that suggested laughter as a tranquilizer. It also said that if you force yourself to smile, that the muscles in your 'smile' tell your brain you are happy, and your brain adjust accordingly.
The book is only 99 cents right now and has lots of great stuff. Just in case you are interested the name of the book is: How to Be Happy: The 13 Principles Used By the Happiest & Most Fulfilled People on the Planet & How You Can Use Them Too.

Sounds great... Thank you!

Thanks for this link. These are all great ideas, but good for general stressful times, not so much for spur of the moment, feeling totally overwhelmed detox!

I'm all about Progressive Muscle Relaxation! I often even fall asleep during the exercise. :)
YouTube.com has different videos, I choose one that is 25 minutes long so you get all the benefits.
Going for a quick brisk walk when you feel stress or the munchies kicking in, is also a good way to get rid of stress and boost your energy!

Sounds great! I don't think this is for me... I'm good with a massage, but I don't think I could watch a YouTube video for 25 minutes!
A walk sounds good though...

Oh you don't watch the video!
I couldn't do that either, you listen to it while relaxing.
But you still might not want to do that, haha. ;)

I like to soak in a nice hot bath before bed. It helps me clear my mind and it relaxes my muscles. Listening to slow music helps me too. I love old school R&B!

That sounds real nice :)
