Imagine if they had one terabyte sizes of these!
Well, they do!
DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0 takes the lead for being the largest size flash drive available today! However, I've had two Data Traveler flash drives of much lower capacities and have had problems with both of them.
I know very little about flash drives and using them for backup devices, so these should be researched on your own.
Flash drives have capacities in derivatives of Base2. You only find these in sizes such as
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, etc. A terabyte flashdrive is actually a bit larger, being 1024 units, whether gigabytes or a terabyte. A one-gig flashdrive actually has a 1024 megabyte capacity.
Not that this makes much difference in the scope of this Resource, but interesting to know.
A great advantage flash drives have over other media of course, are their size! They make great portability!
However...
Disadvantages:
They are easy to lose!
They tend to get corrupted easily.
The read/write cycles are not as much as you would find in other media. (they wear out faster.)
The retractable USB connector causes wear and tear.
They have low security rates, even with the software that comes with them.
Like the early floppy disks, they are known carriers of computer diseases, such as viruses, worms and trojans!
In my opinion, these are best suited for transmission of data from one computer to another, and due to the disadvantages above, I'd think the very large capacity drives like the one above mentioned, is impractical.
Floppy Disks...
It's a good time for me to review this area also. i work as a songwriter & music producer and my operating basis for recording is to keep all audio & production files on an external drive which works more efficiently with the production software.. so in this situation i also need a back up of my external drive..
On a kinda related topic i just implemented the use of the WordPress plugin "UpdraftPlus Backup" to automatically do a full site backup to my Google Drive once a week.. it does make you sleep a little easier at night :~)
