Step 4: How to Match Your Tasks With Your Goals

To match the above tasks with your goals or end results…

  1. Ask yourself, “What is my end goal with these tasks?” or “What end result do I hope to achieve?”
  2. Tie this in with your task so you know why you are completing it and are clear in your mind the benefit of doing so.
  3. You can also take it one step further and remind yourself of the problem you'll solve or the pain you'll alleviate by doing this task.
  4. Let's say your end goal is to earn passive income and quit your day job so you are no longer a wage slave stuck in the 9 to 5 daily drudgery.
  5. Your to do item would become for example, “completing my Wealthy Affiliate training so I can be one step closer to passive income and no longer reliant on your day job income which I hate”.

Step 5: How to Set Deadlines On Your Tasks

Goals without deadlines are just wishes. They are mere vague statements that will never get achieved.

This is how to set deadlines on your tasks:

  1. Add a realistic time bound deadline (yet one that pushes you to take action quickly instead of procrastinating) to make your goals happen.
  2. For example “completing my Wealthy Affiliate training” becomes

Log into course portal at course URL, then spend 15 minutes (the time of the video) watching training video 1, take notes and complete the tasks associated with the module before 5th of May”.

3. Work backwards from that deadline and set mini-deadlines for all the tasks you need to do to reach that target like...

    • Log into course portal on 3rd May.
    • Watch video 1 for 24 minutes and take notes by 4th May.
    • Complete the module tasks by 5th May.
    • Etc.

Now you have a clear road map of exactlywhat you need to do to achieve your goal and get your to-do item done.

If you don't have this you'll either never sit down to start or when you do, you'll have no clear road map and will procrastinate or “think about it” a bit more without taking action.

Now it's time to get your task done in step 6...
