Whenever I start with a new article, the first thing I consider is what I am going to write and who is going to read it. This is a little vague, I know. But it is a vital question if you are going to write a great article.

On my website, How Writers Write, I focus mainly on assisting young writers with their online writing career. This makes it a little easier for me because there is so much that I still want to learn about online writing. So as I learn new principles and tricks, I write about it and publish it to others who may have the same questions as me.

If your website focuses on new technology, your audience is probably millennials and other tech-savvy individuals always on the hunt for new developments in the technology field.

If your website focuses on fitness and exercise regimes, your audience is probably males and females in their primes looking for advice on the best health supplements or exercises to improve their overall health and fitness.

Now I don't know about you, but in all three the above mentioned examples, the audience is a bit broad. While it is true that you can write an article for a broad spectrum audience, I find that my more targeted articles reach way more readers per capita as opposed to the more vague focused articles.

So how do you write your article to target a smaller more specific audience?

This can be done by writing your articles targeting specific search phrases and terms often called the low-hanging fruit keywords.

Think about it: if you go on Google and search for something, how many words to you typically type in the search box? If you type in two or three words, good for you. But the most effective Google searches often have four to six, sometimes eight words in the search phrase to bring up results.

These are what make your keywords specific to attract a specific target audience.

Where to get your low-hanging-fruit keywords?

You can do your keyword research on the Jaaxy Research keyword tool integrated right here on Wealthy Affiliate. As a starter member, you have access to 20 searches. Premium members have unlimited keyword searches.

There are many training tutorials here on WA explaining the specifics around how to use the tool, how to pick you keywords, and how to interpret the results. As such, I will not go into much detail of the Jaaxy keyword research tool, but this is the best place to gather the information you need as you start with your article.

In the search results, the Avg tells you how many searches we done for that specific keyword in that month, QSR tells you how many competing websites are ranked under that keyword, and finally Traffic tells you what your potential audience will be for that specific keyword.

Now that you have your audience, it is time to move on to the next step.
