The WP Edit Plugin allows you to add formatting and other features that are missing from the standard WordPress Editor.

This plugin replaces the Tiny MCE Editor that many people were using before WordPress upgraded to version 3.9, so if you are using the current WordPress version, you will need to replace the Tiny MCE editor with this one.

Hi Craig,
Is there anyway this WP edit plugin can change the header tabs at the top? I think the answer is no. and that the Divi theme is our hero once again... is there any other way?. The inspect command that Jay was talking about I think it's just temporary.. Scotty B

By the way I bought a $75 Divi theme and not the entire Unlimited. well time goes on and I let it expire. May go back there.

Labman ~~ this was great -- but I am still having an issue -- everytime I go to customize my website -- I want to change the color of the header words -- I go to customize, themes, colors, header text color -- change it to the color I want to change to, save it -- it shows its changed but when I exit out -- the color reverts back to the original color I chose. How do I correct this?
thanks for your help!!
~~Vicky
Reply
Labman Premium
Create a child theme and add css to force the color onto the header.
Reply
vlagattuta Premium
Hmmm are there directions to do that? Sorry I'm really "green" at this.
Reply
Labman Premium
It is pretty involved for someone new to this. It is possible but probably beyond you at this point.

If you type child theme in the search bar at the top of the page, there are tutorials to do this.

The header is problematic but I have also done this tutorial that shows you how to create a header in Canva. This may solve your problem.

I worry about having too many plugins on my sites. Would it work if I used another text editor such as wordpad on my pc to increase the size of my text then copy and paste my text into Wordpress?
Reply

Just make sure that you have a good cache plugin, as you move forward having multiple plugins is going to become essential. The plugin meter for SiteHealth is mainly for new members because sometimes people just starting a website want to go crazy with plugins, making their website slow.

If you have a good cache plugin then you'll be able to have multiple plugins without your site running slowly. Check out the training I have on my profile for a cache tutorial, as always make sure you back up everything before you do it just in case though!
Reply

Wow, now that was a fast response! Thanks Parre, I will go check out that training now!

Thank you. I've finally installed the WP Edit Plugin because the default formatting toolbar is not that enough (especially no paragraph alignment).

However, after I follow exactly like the video tutorial, my formatting toolbar is not changed to the WP Edit toolbar style. Is this possible because of my theme incompatibility?

I also notice that I can't edit the post in the "Visual" section like yours. Is this also theme-related problem?
Reply

It very well could be a theme incompatibility. You might want to submit a help/support ticket to WA on this.

First, the image at the top is broken. So, have a look and see if that can be fixed. Since the theme you have chosen is magazine based, this may need a featured image. I haven't used the theme so I don't know how it works with this theme. Perhaps look for documentation.

I downloaded and installed this and don't know how to make it work. I can't even put SPACES between my paragraphs, although all looks correct on my "edit" page. What am I doing wrong???
Reply
Prestones Premium
I've used WP Edit for a while now, and I'm a bit embarrassed to say I don't understand the question. Hitting 'Enter' ('Return' on a Mac) always did the job for me. What happens when you try to put spaces between paragraphs?

Apologies for being a bit dense...

Dennis
Reply
Ayugen Premium
It all looks good in "edit" but doesn't translate to the real page. also I can't get WP editor to work at all. can't change fonts...could never get that split screen as shown in the video so I could add or ignore features. when I downloaded it nothing came up in the resulting menu.
But I shouldn't need a plugin to create a space, so I have no idea what to do. i finally hit on the idea of making a line of asterisk between paragraphs and that helped, but its not what I really want.
Reply
Prestones Premium
I saw a post on your site (May 10) where you'd used the asterisks on your site Avera. I agree, it's a hassle and not what you're looking for. Using your reply (above), you have a paragraph break between "nothing came up in the resulting menu." and "But I shouldn't need a plugin..."

In my response here, I hit the Enter key twice, so I have a line of white space between paragraphs. Is this extra white space what you're trying to accomplish on your web site?

WordPress drives me crazy sometimes by changing what I've written when I flip between the Visual and the Text tabs in the editor - so I just try to avoid doing so. WP Edit can prevent some of the WordPress mischief if you go to the Pages / Posts tab in the WP Edit plugin and be sure you've got a check in the "Disable the filter responsible for removing p and br tags" box.

Let me know if I'm on the right track - or if your problem is something else entirely.

To change fonts, sizes, format, etc. first highlight the text you want to change, then make a selection to tell WP Edit what you want to do with the selected text (Bold, italic, 14 point, H1, etc). The change should be immediate in the editor, and should also show up immediately in the Preview window.

Dennis

Reply
Labman Premium
Were you able to get this to work?

I was able to fix the spacing by moving the whole thing onto Google docs and then getting it like I wanted and then back onto Wordpress...then a few more clicks and the thing was fixed. Will always go that route now.

Use it sparingly, its nice to have but changing font sizes and colors all over your site doesn't provide a good user experience.

You can use it to emphasize an occasional point but try hard not to overuse the formatting options.
