So what are these mysterious tags and categories?
In WordPress, tags and categories are known as WP taxonomies, which are there for the purpose of creating usability of your blog.
Basically saying, tags and categories sort out the content on your blog for better user experience.
SO...
Categories are there for broad grouping of your blog posts. Think of categories as the broad topic that helps the reader to identify what your blog is about.
For example, let’s say your blog is about your lifestyle. You could have categories such as: Fitness, Food, and Books. If you post an article about the new dish you tried out, then this post will be under the “Food” category.
Tags are to provide details about your particular blog post. These are so-called index words.
Earlier, as an example I mentioned that you could write a post about a particular dish which would be in the “Food” category. Just to follow the same example, the tags for this post could be something relevant to the dish you tried – such as “pizza”, “steak”, “mushrooms” etc.
I hope that now the concept of WordPress categories and tags isn’t confusing to you anymore.
NEXT: Reasons You Should Not Use the Same Word for Both
You did it! Not just one, but TWO wonderful trainings! They both provide straightforward clarity on a few of the basics that everyone needs to understand to move forward.
Looking forward to your next one!
Congratulations,
Isabella
Very informative and well done! You explained very well the difference between categories and tags. I use both and I also see categories as broad subgroups that readers can search on your site. In one category you will then have related posts. Tags are more specific to the particular post. About its specific content.

Thank you so much for the useful training!
