Oh! What a great IDEA! I'm sure I have plenty of space up there. After all, I've misplaced the brain, so there's all THAT room an' ~ ~ ~ wait a minute! I forgot; the brain didn't actually take up that much space. Never mind, I guess. :(

Hi Marion, I had to do this all over again and found your video making a few changes thanks!

I was wondering, I never got any spam/bot comments before and thought the setting for this would be in your tutorial but it's not.

Do you know where I could find the spam setting to take care of this issue?
Is it in another tutorial...

Thanks

If you're on WA hosting then make sure you've got Site Protect active. If your site is elsewhere then this old video should help
Reply

Thanks Marion,

I am with another host now, but a few minutes ago I went to Featured Manager and the Bad Bot Blocker was OFF. I must have missed that one! So now that its on I'll see if it helps.
I'm covered for everything at the new place. Good thing I went to check.

I'll save your link, hopefully I won't need it :)

Thanks again :D

So the permalink is to shortened first?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
In later lessons you'll be learning how to use Pretty Links and you will need the permalink to be set on Post name.
Reply
drlumsden Premium
Dear Pepeiata,

As you know, a permalink or permanent link is a URL that is intended to remain unchanged for many years into the future, yielding a hyperlink that is less susceptible.
Yes you would shorten the permalink, without destroying it's meaning.
For permallnk, Marion Black deals with your subject at the last . Review at your convenience.
Change the name, then press save changes, she says.
Hope this helps.

David,
Didn't Kyle say in one of his lessons not to change the permalink?

Chuck

Don't change the actual permalink but changing the permalink SETTING to "postname" is a good idea.

Great information Marion, I have a question however. I have my posts going to my home page, I would like to have them go to another page with just the 6 most recent on the home page, is there a way I can achieve this? I followed your instructions with the static page and it changed the other page to look identical to the home page.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Go to Settings > Reading and change the number of posts to display on the home page to 6 instead of 10.

Hi Marion,
Thank you, This is what I needed. Now, I do have a question. if I change my settings in general tab say for the site title tagline, to use something else will that break the internal links?
If I change the permalink settings from a custom structure to the post name, will that break the internal links as well?
Thanks for all your help.
Chas
Reply
Shawn Martin Premium
If you are just changing the tag line you should be fine. Not quite clear on your second question
Reply
3chas80 Premium
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the answer.
also will the change affect google rankings?
For the second question, in the permalink settings choices, my site had the custom structure tab checked. I moved it to the post name as Marion has suggested. I am wondering if that will affect the links already in place. Does it change the linking url at all?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
What was the custom structure you selected? It probably won't make any difference to the links you have in place. Try it and see.
Reply
3chas80 Premium
I didn't select anything, just had the choice checked and left the space to type alone.I thought it was like an auto feature. I have gone thru the site and every link appears to work.Ok, thanks Marion and Shawn. This has to work much better!
Reply
Shawn Martin Premium
I am not sure if it changes the linking, but I bet Marion can answer that one :)

In media settings, are your image sizes set at preferred opitmum values for any site? I.e. 150x150 300x300 1024x1024 ?

I leave the size of the images at their default values but I take the tick out of the box which crops the thumbnails.

Hi Marion, great training. Why is it that you would remove the tick from the line - "anyone can register"?
