In this video you’re going to learn how to add headings to your posts and pages using Gutenberg.

This is a preview of the new WordPress editor which is expected to be released shortly. As the update hasn’t happened yet, I’m using the Gutenberg plugin to simulate the new editor experience. The real thing may be slightly different when it comes out.

As they are still fixing bugs prior to the release of WordPress version 5 it's not a good idea to install the Gutenberg plugin on a live site.

Create or use a practice website to play with the plugin.

Open the post you want to edit (or the post you’re working on).

Click into a paragraph near where you want the heading to appear.

Click the + button top left to add a new block.

Select Heading block from the Frequent tab or the Blocks tab.

Type in your heading and look at the Toolbar where you can choose the size of the heading as well as additional formatting options.

You can rearrange the order of the blocks using the tiny Move Up and Move Down arrows on the left hand side.

Click on Save Draft (optional) while you’re working on your post.

When you’ve finished the post Preview and Schedule for publication.

Now you know how to add headings to your posts and pages using the new Gutenberg WordPress editor.

There’s a lot more to learn about the new WordPress editor so watch out for more of my videos.

Hi Marion,
I have a question. My publishing process is probably too complicated...
I'm used to type my posts in Word (this way I can send them to my partner for proofreading and he will reply with Change Tracker on). Then I copy all and paste in Site Content, do Grammar check, add images from WA library (not always).
Then I publish the post and go to the WP editor. I turn the post back to a draft (or Preview) and keep editing. I mark rows as Headers, add more images, links etc. Here I also have Grammarly running and fixing my mistakes.
I guess there should be a way to simplify this process.
How Gutenberg blocks will help me?
Can I mark existing row as a header ? Or I'll have to create a new header block and then copy paste this row into the block?

Thank you so much for these trainings

Mary

You can convert a paragraph into a header or convert a header into a paragraph.

I only use WordPress for all my posts. In your situation, you can use WordPress and ask your partner to read through what you've written before hitting the Publish button.

In my opinion, the best thing about Site Content is the access to images, though I seldom use it for that as I prefer to look for images elsewhere as the previews are bigger.

Thank you for reply, Marion
This proofreading thing is kind of critical for me.. I send him the file and he does when he has time, mostly at the office.. And Change Tracking is important, as I don't accept all his ideas :-)

I was thinking to skip SiteContent as well. But sometimes I receive emails from WA that my post was indexed. I wonder, would I receive the same if I don't use SiteContent at all?

Site Content has nothing to do with your posts getting indexed. That's between you and Google. Once anything on your site has been indexed the Google Bot will continue to crawl your website every once in a while. You can speed up the indexing via various methods including submitting your sitemap. Use the search box at the top of this page to find lots of information on getting new posts indexed. I don't know about the emails as I don't use WA hosting.

Oh yes Marion, i’ve been there before!

That’s unless you tell me your training is real and in that case it’s back to work and thank you!

Yes, it's real. I had forgotten about April 1 until someone mentioned it earlier today.

The 2nd video is out now and that's not a joke either :)

Back to work Wayne. I'm not funny enough to pull off April Fools day jokes.

I'll publish another video tomorrow, I've got a few more in the pipeline but I can only publish one a day.
