So this morning I update my version of Wordpress only to find that it has updated the editor used for creating my posts too, I was in a hurry and didn't have time to learn how to use it so looked for a quick fix.

Thankfully there is a Classic Editor plugin which does the job without any fuss, here's how to install it :)

This will be very helpful until I can find some time to familiarise myself with the new editor. For loads of training on Wordpress 5 - also known as Gutenberg - head on over to Marion Black's Training. I'm certainly going to have to also go and have a look!

Great training Lynne!

Liked and tagged for sharing in the future.

I'm going to love this plugin as the new layout is waaaay too clunky, especially when I can copy and paste directly from Word in the Classic version.

Years ago... long before WordPress, there was a website that offered free websites for those of us willing to try out their new platform... and it looked and worked exactly like the newer version of WordPress.

That site no longer exists due to the fact that it was much easier and quicker to use HTML WYSIWYG software.

You are so right Trish, it really does seem quite clunky to me too!

Hey Lynn Huy,
Upgraded to 5.0 but images don't seem to go where they are supposed to. In the intro video they made it look so easy but I can't seem to make it work. I think I will go using the classic plug in until I figure it all out. So thanks for the training!

It's a pleasure Elaine and Yes I agree with you the new editor seems like a lot more effort than the old way! I will still figure out how to use it though :)

Thanks for the classic editor update. Just went in and saw the new version, could not find how to add media! Going to use the classic for now until I learn the new one. Thanks, Deanna

Hello LynneHuy,

Thanks for the video shared about the classic editor plugin! Kudos to you! From my own experience, the new WordPress version 5.0 is way better than the old ones as it gives room to continue using the familiar classic editor through 2021, whereas, there are still hundreds of people out there who are seriously afraid of updating their sites to version 5.0. I want to believe that this training video will help them determine to update their sites successfully and without any panic at all. Thanks for being helpful!

I don't like Gutenberg. I tried working on it but it slowed me down way too much and they made things more complicated than what they should be with this new block style design. This plugin helped me regain my sanity as I cannot waste my time to learn the new design. At least for a few good years we are good with it.

Hey Stratos - I just haven't found the time to look into it yet. I've heard many people raving about Gutenberg and how it is so amazing and better.... I will learn how to use it but today is not looking good, tomorrow isn't either! For now I will be sticking to the Classic Editor!

Maybe it's me but I find the blocks to be a bit unnecessary. Why to create a more complex system is beyond me. Maybe I am too used to the classic editor but yesterday I pushed myself to work on the new editor and I got a headache. The classic editor is simple and easy to use and it's enough at least for me.

I'm not a creature that likes change and that's what it comes down to for me :)
