How long should a page be on your content site. How many pages do you need for a high page rank (SEO)? Well, as far as the later goes, I was surprised. John

You are welcome, Mike. I finished my last large painting today so maybe I'll be able to do more site work. I'm way behind. Well, I'm too old to ever catch up. lol

Ok, I'm a little confused by this. I have some pages on my site that I wanted to add some of my past blogs to original pages that fit the title of them, for instance one of my pages is titled after a very popular video game and a big chunk of my posts are targeted for that game and so I want a lot of those posts to appear in there.

Well I found out the only way to do that (unless there's a plugin) is to create categories that can act as pages and then when I post something new, I can automatically select that category and the post will go directly there. Is this something you recommend or is just regular pages better?

I don't see anything wrong with that. I've thought about it myself. It's your site. Do what you want. Just make sure the quality and quantity of useful information is there. Don't let this old fart lead you away from what you want to do. lol John

Thanks TJ, I appreciate that. I was just concerned after seeing that training that I might be doing my pages wrong, especially after I learned last week how to get the posts I wanted to certain pages I had created specifically for them. It was such a sigh of relief and joy because I had been trying to figure out a way to do that for quite awhile.

You are welcome, Susan! I'm doing a lot of site house keeping to get rid of pages that are just too old or too short or too something. A monstrous job of rewrite. Amazon getting rid of Astores doesn't help in some cases. I had to upload a archive status plugin. John

THIRTY pages???? Oh, wow. I'm hoping mine is a content site but I've got only five static pages that are for the boring stuff and about 20 or so blog rolls populated by related content blogs that I control with the category settings.

Hmmm....

Not sure I want to change the design. It encourages long stays and browsing, I think. I know when I used to do retail (selling fine crafts), one thing we tried to do was keep the customers in the store. Often they ended up buying SOMETHING!

It's important to make sure the pages you do have are of good quality. The source given said that Google punishes sites that store bad pages. This makes me think about going over some of my sites to make sure what is still there is relevant and of quality and with enough content of about 2000 words. John

Some interesting points to ponder. I added some pages this week and was wondering how many pages. I had no idea I should have so many! WOW!

On a info site, they do build up almost automatically. I have a number of sites with lots of pages. I'm going to go back when I get a week or two and I'm going to make sure they are long enough and up-to-date. At my age and with my health problems, that two weeks may never come. I've been trying to finish my last large painting for weeks. lol Thanks, Becky. John

My son and wife had 15 kids and they were all home schooled until recently. The last ones decided to go to public school.

That's pretty cool to have 15 kids homeschooling.

I just went to my most mature site to see how many pages I have. I didn't realize it til just now, I'm at 23 pages!

I spent a lot of this week updating old content and improving the way the most likely to be seen content looks.

I just went through one of my older sites and archived most all the pages. I have to go back and rewrite them or add to them. That is going to be true of most of my older sites. My son and his wife had 4 natural kids and adopted 11. John

Rewriting can be fun, if not too many changes need to be made.

I'm sure your son and his wife are a big blessing in all 15 kids' lives. One of my husband's cousins adopted and the child they adopted looked more like they were related than their natural born kids.

I have several friends who have adopted most, if not all, of their children. One friend had a combination of yours, mine, and ours + adopted. There were over 20 children, not all at once though.

Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. LOL! I remember the psychedelic wall with the peep holes at the beginning and end of the show, but not too much the show itself.

I have no problem with 2000 words or more. They in fact, get too long! Daniel

Yes, you do put out the words, a blessing, but difficult for some. I can see why Steve farms it out as do other money-makers here. I have farmed stuff out but I never have found a really good writer. I always have to rewrite so may as well do it myself. lol

How am I going to write 20 -30 pages?

I have no clue.

Thanks TJ

That is what I was thinking but looking at my sites, I find that I have far exceeded that and on a new site, I'm almost half way.

I though it was too but when I looked at some of my sites, 30 pages is nothing. One a week when you are starting out gives about 50. John

So to clarify, since we are talking about content we are counting posts? Because I only have 1 that is classified as a page -- then my posts are located under categories in my menu!
Reply

We are talking about content pages, not post such as on your blog. For a blog, you must post often to get notice.

20 to 30 pages! Right now that seems very difficult, but I guess we need to have a mindset of "go slow and go far". I can see now why it takes a couple of years to start getting profit from your work. Bob
