Spam or blatant promotions are not allowed within Wealthy Affiliate. If your intended purpose of being here and to engage is solely based on your underlying promotions, please refrain from doing this.

The reason we are firm on our stance on self promotion here at Wealthy Affiliate is we are and want to continue to be a safe haven for people. One that is free of all promotions and focuses on people helping each other! :)

If you want to offer help or training or tell a story, do so within the mediums provided here (create training, create a blog post, engage within comments or chat with others).

Here are the rules for spam within WA. If you go against any of these, you may lose all posting privileges within WA and depending or may be completely removed from WA without the ability to ever join again (yes, we do take this stuff seriously).

  1. No unsolicited messages promoting products, services, or outside communication to be sent through private messaging. This will lead to immediate removal of your ability to post anywhere within WA.
  2. No copied content allowed to be posted here at Wealthy Affiliate. This content will be immediately removed and you will lose posting privileges.
  3. Do not copy content from WA and post it somewhere else on the Internet. This includes copying your own blog content and putting it on your website.
  4. No promotions with comments or chat. Although these may seem like subtle ways to promote, if you are caught doing this, you will likely lose privileges. If a link is posted out of an act to help someone, not sell something, that is OK.
  5. No training should be focused around a promotion of a product or service or give half information. If it does, then it will be immediately removed from the training at WA and you may lose all privileges to post training in the future.
  6. No blog or forum posts that are created for the pure purpose of promoting a product. This does include product reviews. Rants are OK.
  7. No adding affiliate links to any blog, training, discussion or private message
  8. Do not anything that is "niche" specific. If you have a dieting website or a website that offers people recipes, these types of posts should be reserved for your own website and not within Wealthy Affiliate.
  9. Do not post content where your readers are required to go to an external website to "read more". All of the content must be self contained within the post itself.
  10. No soliciting phone numbers or asking people to call you
  11. Asking for personal contact information
  12. Any inappropriate content (adult content, website URL's or related images)
  13. Soliciting communication outside of the Wealthy Affiliate platform
  14. Using incorrect or misleading headlines within your discussions or blog posts
  15. No faith or religion based posts
  16. No signatures at the end of your posts (posting your website URL, image, etc)
  17. No politically driven posts
  18. Promoting ANY product whatsoever
  19. Anything else that you are knowingly doing in attempt to sell something.
  20. We do not allow any form of fundraising or charity including that campaigning for members here within WA. Please keep all fundraising campaigns external of WA.
  21. No "click bait" titles. The title of your post must represent the content you write. Do not create titles that are confusing and that have the purpose of attracting the most clicks as possible.

We are all here with the ultimate goal of success, if you try some "sneaky sneak" spam attempts within WA, you will be caught and you may be in for an "account explosion"! We are flexible on every other aspect of WA other than spam. No exceptions. Just don't do it!

We truly are a community of help and if you see any form of spam going on, please do let us know and we will handle accordingly. :)

'Ok", great Kyle...trained by Professionals to
be Professionals...nothing wrong with that
my friend !!
I was hired by a company one time who told me that
what ever experience I had from working with other businesses,
they didn`t want to hear about it !!
They said that they were going to teach me in their own way,
that I would be trained by professionals, to be a professional !!
And that they did, with all my focus on their business. Just taught
I would drop that by you.
Let us not bring any outside luggage into WA.
You are all doing such a great job !!
Bravo !!

Hi, in the first lesson, Page 1 of "Wealthy Affiliate -- The Open Education Project," Kyle talks about
The Dashboard - Global, Personal Feed, Notification
However, I find this perplexing because his images don't show those; ergo, I am not sure what he's talking about. Help, please?

Page 2, my Dashboard looks nothing like portrayed. Mine looks like this

If you click on Activity Dashboard, That is where the Dashboard is now. The site has been redesigned, but everything is still there.

Okay, I'll assume things have different names, different look. I assumed since it was updated Dec 4 it would look the same.

I think that date is actually for all eight pages, and I know one of the other ones was just updated. If you're looking for something in particular that you can't find just ask.

So if Global Feed is now the Globe, Personal Feed now the Envelope for Private Messages, Is Global Feed just another name for Notifications?
Thanks!

If you go to the Activity Dashboard and then go to the Activity tab, there are settings to customize your feed. You can set it to Everyone which would be the global feed or Friends which would be the personal feed.

To the left of that are settings to pick which items come up, All, Unanswered questions, success, etc.

Is this the reason when I was having so much trouble with my website, no one would help me was because it would be promoting WordPress? That's just crazy, most of us start out here knowing nothing and if no one can help with problems on our themes, I can see a lot of people walking away.
I have extensive knowledge of web design, but these weren't my designs, so I felt helpless because I didn't know how to make the darn thing work, but because of my background I kept with it, but it came close to where I didn't.

Kismet,

WA members are available to help you in any area you need help.

Wordpress or otherwise. However when it's a matter of personal preference only the individual can decide that.

Plenty of people here willing and able to help. I don't recall seeing your query. What was it?

So a couple of questions, and I'm not trying to be nit picky, but I spend a ridiculous amount of time around lawyers and dealing with legal documents. I've kind of developed a need for precise language, and those rules seem to be more representing a spirit of the intent than a literal intent.

Rule 18, what's considered a product? Taken literally with the emphasis on "ANY", I would consider this a really broad term, but in the maybe three hours I've been here I've seen posts about YouTube, specific video software, and a whole classroom dedicated to Wordpress. To me these are all products. So is the key in the word "promoting"? But when combined with rules 5 and 6, it seems like saying anything good about any product is promotion of that product.

So for example Wordpress seems to be the CMS of choice. Any training on a plugin is out? I do web design for a living. All my clients use WP, and one of them got hacked. It was a mess to clean up, and I think WP security is one of the most important things that people ignore with WP and I would be happy to do training on it. I use one specific plugin though. I'm not saying you can't use others, this is just the one I use, and there are certain things you either need a plugin to do or you need to know how to code. So is the line a general blog post saying here's what you need to do, but you'll have to figure it out for yourself? Because than we come to my next question and it seems like I can't even say, "and here's where yo go to figure it out."

Rules 2 and 9 seem to be contradictory. You can't copy anything in and you can't reference anything outside. 9 says "required to go to an external website" though. So the spirit seems to be don't gratuitously be linking to outside resources, but assuming you give a thorough answer is it OK to add a reference to an outside resource for more information if desired? I tend not to expect people to accept my word for things and prefer to send them to the source so they can decide for themselves, so I want to know if I should really not be doing that.

I guess my problem is I have 20 years of programming and marketing experience, and I came here because I was looking for a community to share some of that with. I was kind of skeptical about coming here for my own reasons, but I got pulled in by the Black Friday Deal and decided to give it try. At first I thought it was going to be way better than I hoped. But after reading this I feel like I'm going to be walking on egg shells not to say the wrong thing anywhere.

So, if I recall correctly, rule 18 is referring to promoting products to other members of WA. We are a community where people are learning. Selling to the membership isn't allowed. That is what your website is for.

You can certainly provide training to help other members understand a particular product. Just don't use your affiliate link to sell to them.

If it is a helpful reference and you are not getting compensated for sending people there, then you can include external references.

Hope this helps clarify.

WA is an education resource. A school. A college.

We are all here to learn, from WA and from each other.

WA is not a flea market for peddling stuff to classmates. If you read the rules in that context you will understand them correctly. They do not apply to the websites that you create and market to the outside world.

So didn't realize when I posted that I was posting to 8 different things and not just the Spam is a No No post. Sorry about that. Direct link for reference.

Chris and Labman, thanks for your answers. I'll keep those in mind and those do seem like a good way to look at it, but if you read the rules from a completely new person's perspective that's really not how they read.

However, based on conversations I've had elsewhere your perspective may be too lax, because I definitely could see how people would use that as a way to "sneak" things in. It kind of goes back to what I said about the spirit vs the letter.

I wonder why posts sometimes get removed?

Hopefully @Onmyownterms will give his own response soon. Or you could PM him and ask.

I once had a post "blacklisted" 'cos it referenced something that WA would rather keep at a good distance, and rightly so. It got straightened out with a few PM's.

Thanks. I updated my comment. Mel took it down on his own. He didn't like his tone in it.

I've talked to Mel about it. Unless he says something different, I'm pretty positive he took it down on his own, and since Kyle basically commented in support of what he said I don't know of any reason to believe differently.

You can count me in on The Open Education Project. I'm for teaching others what I've learned here at WA. I'm glad I found this information.

I was just saying the other day how I wish I had someone to push me, give me so feedback that will help me help my business and all along I had a system that I was not using.

I'm learning a lot here at WA, but I think I'm lacking some social skills. The Open Education Project looks like it may be something that may help me readjust my comfort zone.

Thank you again Kyle
