Well firstly, as you are probably reading this as a newcomer - Welcome To Wealthy Affiliate!

I created this resource to help you get your questions answered. I know a lot of people come in and ask the same questions, and fortunately we have some very patient people who frequent the live chat, but to save everyone time, here are some of the questions I am going to be answering today:

There will of course be more questions that you have, and if I notice a lot of people are asking similar questions, I will add them here. This is just a "Frequently Asked" list, but if your question isn't here, try searching for it in the search bar, asking in live chat, or writing a blog post here on WA.

The next few pages will cover these questions and give answers and related training in full.

To write 400 words minimum in a post is easy but stay under 1.000 words actually not, if you want to make quality content, no? Can some experienced guys tell me how it works out for them with word counts? Some advice?
Reply
DomW Premium
Just write as many words as you need to.

When I'm not writing for my content, I'm working on a book. So, I have to keep in mind that for the book, 3,000 words per chapter is expected. However, my posts on my website aren't to be a chapter, so I shoot for 300 and sometimes go over. The content matters not if the subject is written in so dry an approach that the viewer's screen turns dusty! ;) All kidding aside, when you have given 3 or 4 different approaches to the same topic, this is generally enough.

Thanks. Did you ever feel a need to update this or are you far too busy now? :)

There's no need to update it as people don't really view it often enough and there are dozens of other duplicate trainings out there.

You are clear, and thank you. At the same time as a newbie I find the difference between blogs and posts and pages and . . . super confusing. Why not just have pages?
Reply
Jlindgren Premium
Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order on the blog home page or on the posts page
Pages are static and are not listed by date. Pages do not use tags or categories .
Thought i would say that.

So if I have say, 5 pages of topics I want to cover and my homepage is a blogroll of recent posts, how do I link those posts to a relevant topic page?
Reply
EricaS22 Premium
If you go to your dashboard and click on appearance --> menus then you'll see in the top right corner of the menus screen 'screen options' check the box next to posts. Now you can add your posts to the menu. If your topic pages are listed in the menu drag the post and have it situated under the appropriate topic page. (The post should appear slightly to the right directly beneath the topic page on your menu).
Reply
m41 Premium
Thank you, that has helped! It wasn't quite what I had in mind, as the posts don't actually show on the topic page itself, but it's infinitely better than what I had! I'm thinking maybe some categories and some links in conjunction.... Thanks again!!
Reply
EricaS22 Premium
What you can also do is have your categories (topic pages) as menu items and then when you make a post and put it in that category that post will show up on the category page automatically. The post won't show as a menu item that way unless you put the post in your menu like I had mentioned before.
Reply
m41 Premium
Thanks! That's more what I'm looking for! Unfortunately, when I use categories like that a large heading appears on the page stating "Category Archives: (and gives category name)". Is this just default with the theme I have, do you suppose?
Sorry to seem so particular! You are being a great help to me, thank you!
Reply
EricaS22 Premium
Hey don't ever worry about being particular. This is your online masterpiece and getting it the way you want to function is important. Unfortunately my expertise is quite limited on the subject (I'm pretty new myself) so I don't have the answer to your last question. You could try asking it in the need help bar at the top and see if someone has an answer to that one :)
Reply
m41 Premium
You understand about being particular! I suppose everyone on here feels that in some way, huh? Thanks for your help so far, and I will take your advice and seek the answer in the top bar! Thanks again!

Excellent DomW.-- But here is a problem that I am running into. First my name is Bob Orow and I joined WA with my partner Candy Orow who is my sister.
I own a home improvement company that is very successful and I know a lot of people that are and were 6 figure income earners that want to still be 6 figure earners but they want to do it on a "MOBILE" basis. They want to be able to travel anywhere in the world to live but they want good income. I know that where ever there is an internet connection your in business
HERE IS THE PROBLEM****
Everyone that I have invited to take a look at WA already knows that a person has to study--learn--implement--and work hard that is a given But---They have asked why isn't there any examples of business models showing what a $500 a month ---$1000.00 a month---$2500.00---------$10,000.00 a month profit not gross sales business model would look like? How many sites would you need--would info products sell the best or CPA be more lucrative ect.

When I tell people about my home improvement business I can tell you to the penny what model you have to do to earn 3--4--5--6 and even 7 figure incomes per year.

I know that the very experienced marketer can give you that information effectively
My guests all have said the same thing to me----"SHOW ME THE BUSINESS MODELS
SO I CAN SEE WITH MY OWN EYES WHICH ONE I WANT AND CAN FOCUS ON"

I am just learning internet marketing but I too want a serious 6 figure "MOBILE BUSINESS" as well but i too would like to see what a 6 or 7 figure model looks like NOW WAIT A MINUTE I am not asking to see some ones personal site as It would be their secret but you can definitely show how it was attained

Thank You DomW and everyone here at WA

All of you are a great asset to the world of opportunity seekers that all they want is honesty and truthfulness

OK, quite a long comment and probably something more suited to Kyle or Carson than to me, but I will attempt an answer all the same.

The business models presented here are for beginners mostly. People do go on to have very large sites with more than reasonable incomes based on the training received here, but it's just not realistic to show somebody a 6 or 7 figure model when they don't necessarily even know how to use an affiliate link. It's mind boggling and over the top.

You and your associates obviously come from a very business background world where you can understand big figures and models and so on, but the majority of WA students are pretty confused about all of that, and find it much easier to reach success by learning the way WA teaches, and scaling that.

Furthermore, incomes models are entirely niche specific and what works for one or two people, might not (and probably won't) work the same way for others. I just can't see how something like that could be implemented anywhere.

Hope that helps.

Hi Dom, me again. Re website rankings with google..basically -
Keyword/s in title and if possible first line of blog post
Forget about meta keywords or perhaps add one or two?
Backlink to another page of your website, not same one all the time
Google ranks on your non duplicate, well written posts on your site, about 400 words or more

What's got me, is just how does a computer programme (algorithm?) know what you wrote? Is it just programmed to look for what is recorded by google as keywords, etc. After all it's just a programme, not an actual person reading a page. Too clever for me at the moment. Still I have to ask these questions, as my mind and learning ability is in full swing at the moment, so I gotta go with the flow and take it in when I can - lol :)
Reply
DomW Premium
OK...let me answer the final question first. It's not the algorithm that knows what you wrote. The computer program (spider) captures everything from your page and stores it in the Google index. The algorithm then searches for the best pages to show to somebody who completes a search, based on their criteria for what makes a good page.

Stick the keyword in the title and first "paragraph" (doesn't have to be first line).
Forget about meta keywords, don't even add one. The All In One SEO plugin does this anyway.
Backlink to another page if appropriate, but it is not necessary at all.

Hi Dom, just wondered if i could run this past you / newbies looking in - i started a discussion a while back but it got no response: the general advice in WA is to use Chrome browser & having only ever used IE i dont find Chrome immediately intuitive. Rather than jumping between Chrome Help / Youtube videos (in between working two day jobs) would any other newbs find it helpful to have a tutorial on using Chrome from a IM perspective in Getting Started / Premium.
Reply
DomW Premium
It's been a while since I used IE, so I'm not sure how different it is from Chrome. When I made the switch from Mozilla to Chrome it was pretty much seamless. What kind of things are you struggling with in Chrome out of curiosity?

Another great piece, Dom, thanks. Are you thinking about adding other tips on using WordPress; i.e. menus, widgets, selecting themes (what works best for different niches), etc? Those seem to be asked a lot as well.
Reply
DomW Premium
Hmm,..certainly "What theme works best for my niche" is a frequently asked question. Good suggestion. I want to keep this quite simple and concise though, so some WordPress tip questions will make it in here, but it's not going to be a guide like the entrepreneur guide or anything.

This is really good, DomW! You know how awkward it is when you've been happily chatting to someone for maybe half an hour, and then you realize you don't know or have forgotten their name? And the longer the conversation goes on, the more awkward you feel about the fact that you don't know their name, and feel silly asking them what it is? Well, I couldn't help feeling a bit like that about aspects of WA. You know, I've been here a few months and sort of feel ridiculous asking basic questions- despite the fact that the WA community is very helpful and supportive. A guide like this, easily found when one first joins, is going to be very helpful to lots of people.
Reply
DomW Premium
LOL, nice analogy. I know exactly what you mean though. The thing is, nobody is an expert of everything, so even veteran members are going to be asking questions a lot. Don't ever feel like you should know something already. Everyone has a different life and a different journey.

Thanks DomW. Altho I don't have a specific question, as a newbie I would find more explanation on keywords helpful. If I use a long keyword phrase in title/intro what about other similar shorter keywords I use naturally in the article? How does Google pick out my actual intended keywords or how can I avoid being indexed wrongly? Hope that makes sense!
Reply
quaints Premium
Just revisited this post and seen the extra link for more SEO/keywords info, missed it the first time around. This is helping a lot, will try your method :) Thanks!
Reply
DomW Premium
Hey just wanted to add: Google doesn't pick out your intended keywords. That's not how keywords work. What Google does is look at your content and index it. Then when somebody searches for something, that is the keyword. Google goes to its index and finds all the pages that contain those words. It determines which ones are most relevant and shows them on page 1. (It does all this in about half a second).

Some of the things it uses to determine relevancy are the title of the page, the first paragraph and so on.

You can still rank for those smaller keywords because they are in your content.

Thank you so much, DomW. I could be asking any one of those questions from time to time as I move through learning and learning and learning. Unfortunately remembering is not the natural result of learning so much. Quick references like this should be over there on the left. I mean, why not. I know I'm not the only one who wants a quick FAQ at my fingertips.

Well, maybe if you ask Kyle nicely he will stick it over there on the left for us :) Seriously though, you made some good points and I kind of expected a lot of people to be referencing this training in the future (it's what I use to determine whether or not I make a training).
