When I first started working online, I found myself getting all wrapped up in the technical things like keyword research, building sites, article marketing, and on and on and on.

At times I really felt like my head would EXPLODE from all the information I was trying to learn, digest, AND put into action.

Turns out, there was really only ONE THING I was doing that really led to success in my niche.

Oddly, I didn't even know I was doing "it" until much, much later.

Had I known to do "it" and went about doing "it" with a true purpose as opposed to sheer accident, I would've done it MUCH sooner because it is the ONE THING that led to....

- Being known in my niche

- Getting followers in my niche

- Building lists in my niche

- Making MUCH more money in my niche

- Being trusted and "recognized" in my niche

- Needing to do MUCH less keyword research

- MUCH less work, stress, and effort when creating content

- MUCH less effort for back links

So - What IS that ONE THING?

What IS the "It"?

wow, I didn't realize Pot Pie girl was still with WA!
Does anyone remember Squidoo? lol

I kind of miss the old crew.
Good to know a couple of originals are still here.

I have see so many people come and go.

I have lost track of ho many people came so full of
positive RA RA speeches, the old "never give up!"
and "just keep moving forward and you will succeed!"
All the self help motivational buzz words and phrases
only to see them gone after a year and half or so.

PotPieGirl was always honest helpfull and a breath of fresh air.

(I really miss the old forum , never receive enough to succceed in the forum but it was nice to see the banter between the people who really knew what they were doing , and PotPieGirl really help with Squidoo pages for so many people even tho I am sure it really cut into her on time that she could be using for her own business .Along with ThadRoe , Travis and couple of others, back then even Kyle spent time in forum giving some advice.

Hello Jennifer
This just an awesome post. It should be plastered everywhere! I think I am going to book mark it and share with new comers as a tip once they get their site up. Being everywhere is so true, no matter what direction Google or the other search engines go.

Years ago I purchased a couple of digital things from Jennifer regarding Squidoo but allowed all kinds of stuff in "life" to get in my way and therefore didn't have adequate follow-through to make anything happen. Now that I'm here at WA, I'm reading and learning all that I can and voila ~ I ran into this training with Jennifer!
I love being a part of the WA community...and it goes to figure that being a part of your niche community off of WA would be amazing, too...not just for your success, but for helping others. It's all about serving people.

Hi Jennifer... that's actually the first time I notice your first name. I knew you under your nick name and I'm surprised to see you here in WA....

Love what you wrote here.... very original... and I think you got a point... being involved and a part of your niche community... getting noticed in that niche....

It worked with me.... because I have noticed YOU before on the web because of your nick name... and the originality of your content.... you really sounded REAL to me then...

Good model to follow...

Thanks!

PotPieGirl,

Well, this training REALLY made a difference!

Funny thing is way back when, most of what I could find online WAS forums (on fishing, since that's my thang).

And now, I had COMPLETELY forgotten about them!

But thanks to you, I'll get back in the swing!

Thanks!

Great information Jennifer. Great. In my less than two months here at WA, I've been kinda confused about all the fuss surrounding keywords. Everyone has their opinion it seams. I'm finding that I'm resisting the process of integrating keywords into my blogs and such. It just doesn't appeal to me. It seems kind of fake or superficial. After all, am I writing to satisfy Google, or am I writing to help people. If I'm wanting to write a blog because I feel it will benefit the reader, but there are no good keyword choices regarding the topic, do I just move on and never write that blog? I don't think so. So I'm inclined to do what I do (irrespective of keywords) and make more of an effort to be "everywhere". Afterall, did the successful people out there start by being savvy with keywords and such? I kinda doubt it. You have to be real, offer something of value, and be everywhere, like you said. Build it - and they will come. That's kinda my philosophy. I'm still going to be cognizant of keywords and will implement proven strategies, but I'm not going to get all frazzled if I don't use the best keywords and such.

Hi Scott, if you only rely on search-engines to bring you visitors you need keywords. I have a huge following on social media, so I don't put to much effort into key-words.

PPG, I know you posted this a year ago, but since I just read it I have a question.
What did you mean by "DO NOT SPAM THE COMMENTS".
I know what email spamming is, but I'm not certain what this means in your context.
Please clarify. BTY, this was a great post.
Reply
teacup Premium
She pretty much explained it with the words she added next: DO NOT SPAM THE COMMENTS

Spamming via comments is a great way to get those bloggers to hate on you and NEVER link to you or recommend you.

Don't use a keyword as your name in these comments and do not link to your site from within your comment either.

I have several sites where I had to turn the comments completely off. I did not have the time to keep check on those sites and all the comments they were getting were spam.

People who do this are trying to get links back to their site but they are doing it the wrong way. If I get legitimate comments on my content I would not mind allowing the comment to link back to their site. But I would check the site to make sure that it is not porn, gambling, or something else undesirable.

Excellent post, Jennifer! You're too right here. My site gets pretty awful traffic from Google and other social sources from my own works but there are 1 or 2 forums I'm pretty active on because I enjoy them and I've always noticed that when they come they chill and look around where as most Google and FB hits land on the page and bounce. I guess I just never really made the connection fully. After reading this I'm definitely going to find a couple more forums, maybe a few I used to be pretty active on years ago, and make them a priority. Thank you for this!

This works well when you are developing a brand. Quality content and keeping your finger on the pulse of your niche are the ways to do this. I wouldn't think this would work quite the same for smaller targeted product sites however. Learning your customer base and their needs will certainly cross over to this type of site as well.

Classical example of my old family bar business (or any business for that matter!) in the early nineties, business grew only from good service which in turn lead to word of mouth referrals which in turn lead to good reputation and then ultimately successful business. Solid foundation for good business! Simple search and rankings are so very one dimensional for longevity and established reputation. Good post, Jennifer!
