In order for your domain to point to WA Hosting, you need to update your DNS (Domain Name Server) settings within your Domain Registrar.

OK, before I completely lose you with all this "DNS" talk, I will help you understand what is happening here.

WA Hosting is where you are going to be putting all of your website files. These are the same files that load when people will be visiting your domain. Your Domain is the address of your website. In order to connect these two items, you need to tell your domain where to look for the files. This is where the DNS settings come in. When you update these to point to WA Hosting, we automatically know where to look.

The name servers for Wealthy Affiliate Hosting ALWAYS are:

Primary: ns1.mywahosting.com
Secondary: ns2.mywahosting.com

In order for your domain name to point to your web space, you need to tell it where the web space is. To do this, we use something called "Name servers". A name server is simply an address that you need to point your domain to in order for it to connect with your web space.

The place that you update your DNS settings, will depend on where you purchased your domain (Domain Registrar). This will likely be:

GoDaddy.com
NameCheap.com
1and1.com

We are going to explain how to update your DNS within all of these system in the upcoming pages, so choose according to where you bought your domain.

I have just renewed my domain registration on DreamHost and set up my DNS settings to point here to WA but have a couple of questions (hopefully quick ones) please -

1. Does it now mean that the website previously registered and hosted on DreamHost, is now hosted here on WA?
The domain registration remains with DreamHost which is where I will renew each year?

2. Since doing that, I have set up my website here but I don't see any of the pages/posts from the website that I had created there. How do I get those?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks folks
Gary

Once you have pointed the DNS to another company, the site is hosted there.

So now, your site is hosted at WA and the domain is still at DreamHost.

The content you created before changing the DNS gets lost if not backed up.

Hey Kyle, I think that you need to update the info on SETTING UP YOUR DOMAIN DNS with GoDaddy. I do not see "Launch" instead I only see; MANAGE, which I clicked on...and then I changed it. Just took me a couple of minutes more to try to find the LAUNCH thing to click on,which is/was replaced by manage. Maybe it would benefit others...Thanks

I am trying to change my DNS settings on 1&1 to point my domain to WA. I entered ns1.mywahosting.com under Name Server 1 and ns2.mywahosting.com under Name Server 2 and hit save but when I go back in to check the DNS settings it has reversed the two so that Name Server 1 shows as ns2.mywahosting.com and Name Server 2 shows as ns1.mywahosting.com. I called 1&1 but they could not figure it out and told me to wait until the changes update. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Thanks!

Nope haven't had that problem. I would give it a few hours then check here: internic/whois to see if the changes have propagated. Then you can change them again.

Labman. I just checked on the link you provided and it all looks hunky dory there. Thanks for the info!

I just got off the phone with godaddy, and the rep told me that these links gave him the same error message that I got, which was "The data provided cannot be used, please correct it and resubmit your request." Are these nameservers up above correct? He told me that it wouldn't "take" and to contact WA.

Ok, I think I figured it out. The nameservers originally were all caps. I used the most recent ones after refreshing the page here at WA and it seems to be in progress.

If you are using:
ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com
Then yes, they are correct. Make sure there are no spaces.
Maybe even type them in manually rather than copy and paste.

I had to try the process two or three times before I could get it to work.

Hi! I bought my domain name from GoDaddy and I am trying to redirect to WA. However, when I log in to my account I do not see "Launch" next to domains. What is displayed is my domain name (private registration) on the left and on the right side is "Set up", "DNS", & "Manage" respectively. I've been searching for this launch button and have not had much success. Does anyone know how to navigate/connect godaddy domain with WA hosting with the GoDaddy display options that I described? Help would be much appreciated :).

Thank you,
Terese

I would ignore looking for a "Launch" button, and explore the contents of "Manage" and "DNS".

I'm not currently on GoDaddy, but any registrar constantly changes their interface, so it is almost impossible to keep a guide on how to do things 100% accurate to what you see on the screen. Explore, but just be very careful to not click "save" or "commit" or whatever unless you are really sure you want to make a change. The "cancel" button is your friend when exploring an interface.

Thanks so much for your reply. I will check out these options. I was a little leery about going forward and I do understand that interfaces are ever changing, but I did not want to make the wrong
move. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Just be very careful of what you click on and fully read any messages you receive, and you should be fine.

yes, Terese, it is the DNS or Manage. You probably figured it out as it was some time ago. I didn't see your question earlier. Sorry as I use GoDaddy too.

Yup, I just ran into the same thing; thanks for your help Foobard. On GoDaddy, go to DNS Management, scroll down to NameServers and the Change option will be highlighted :D

Thanks so much! I just made the switch and I hope that it processes. The browser said that I would likely get a confirmation email of the update, but it has yet to come through. Thanks again! :)

Did you receive a confirmation of the change via email?

I don't remember getting one either so hopefully, it is active and you have started building.
