What is a keyword?
It is a word or a phrase that someone types into a search engine. People use words or phrases to find things they are looking for online and there are BILLIONS of keywords out there.
As an affiliate marketer and here within Wealthy Affiliate, you are going to become an expert with keyword research and coming up with search terms that people type into search engines.
Here is a birds eye view of the process of SEO, from keyword to the money.
Importance of Keywords to Your Business
Keywords are instrumental in your business, they are the starting point of all of your rankings & traffic. Whether you are attempting to rank in search engines for FREE (through search engine optimization) or paying for traffic through pay-per-click, keywords are YOUR WAY of capturing highly relevant and engaged visitors to your website.
As an example, let's say that I am looking for the best affiliate marketing training online. I would most likely type in:
You could, in theory, target this very keyword with a page/post on your website and then rank for it in Google. When you get ranked in Google, your post will show up within the natural search results.
These are natural, SEO rankings. This would lead to traffic (people coming to your website) and then you could make such recommendations, like Wealthy Affiliate and earn commissions as a result.
That is how search engine optimization works, initially we are going to be teaching you how to get ranked through SEO (for FREE) but down the road in bootcamp you are going to learn how you can drive traffic to your website through paid avenues, like PPC and Facebook Ads.
What Tools Do You Need to Find Keywords
There are many keyword and research tools on the market. I have used pretty much all of them over the years, from Google's in house keyword tool to expensive keyword research platforms out there. None of them provided the data that I needed!
I found that most ended up providing useless, and often times, very inaccurate information.
Introducing Jaaxy, an Affiliate and Internet Marketers dream research platform. Not only does it capture the data you need about a keyword, it does it in a very efficient manner.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Keyword Mastery, Keywords Are the Foundation of Your Success
Task 1: Research and Find 5 Keywords Relating to Your Niche
When you get a grasp for keyword research, you are truly going to be in a position where you have TOO MANY keywords and not enough time. That is a good position to be in.
When starting out though, it might feel as though there is some sort of keyword scarcity. This feeling usually dissipates when you sit down to start performing some keyword research within your given target audience.
Again, each post you publish on your website is going to target a specific keyword. Then as you build out content targeting that keyword, you will start to get rankings, which leads to traffic and ultimately the driving force of your revenue.
START BROAD, Narrow Down.
My tendency is to start broad, and narrow down to something more specific. For example, I can search a term like "affiliate" in Google, and come up with a lot of ideas before I even commence my research in a keyword tool like Jaaxy.
When you type any term into Google, they offer you "Google Instant" results meaning that they will show you predictive results based on what you are typing. This is an incredible way to find new keywords.
Let's quickly look at the "affiliate" example. If you type this phrase into Google, it is going to give you a bunch of instant, predictions.
One search, I already have FOUR new ideas that I could plug into Jaaxy.
- affiliate marketing
- affiliate programs
- affiliate definition
- affiliate marketing canada
I can then continue typing and I will get more Google Instant predictive results.
I have another FOUR ideas, that I could now plug into Jaaxy. These terms are getting more narrow, and more targeted which is what we are after here.
I can then keep going. In this case, I am going to type out "affiliate marketing training". Here are the results in Google.
As you can see, another FOUR terms.
By typing literally THREE words into Google, I have come up with 12 brand new keyword ideas. These are keywords that I can then plug into Jaaxy and completely my keyword research.
To complete your research and derive AWESOME keywords, it is important though that you understand what type of keywords you are after here.
The 3 Criterion Your Keywords Must Meet
There are 3 qualifying factors for SEO when it comes to keyword research in Jaaxy or using the WA Keyword Tool. It isn't overly complex, so don't overthink these by any means.
You are going to be looking at traffic, competition and whether or not the keyword actually makes grammatical sense.
- Keyword must get SOME traffic. Ideally you will choose a keyword that gets over monthly searches.
- Under 100 QSR (Competition). This is ideal for a newer website, but as you start to build out your site it is completely fine to target keywords that are under 200 QSR.
- The keyword must make sense. If the keyword phrase could not be used in a proper sentence, then chances are you shouldn't use it. It must be grammatically correct.
There is a quick search feature available to you right within the Jaaxy menu. You simply click on the menu and it will hope up the submenu, with the search available right within it.
You can see I have entered "affiliate marketing training" into the search (as shown below).
If it meets this criteria, then you are good to go and this keyword is a winner. Let's look at a sample search here in Jaaxy I did for "affiliate marketing training".

As you can see, one simple search has yielded many keywords that fit this criteria.
If you do a search and you don't see the full data, you simply need to click the "Get QSR" link and it will fetch the data for you. You will see that if that particular keyword has never been searched before.
You are going to be creating all of your posts moving forward based on the premise of keywords. Each page or post on your website will be targeting a brand new keyword and through time and as you build out your website, this can lead to an incredible amount of traffic and revenue.
Top Helpers in This Lesson
Why my choice? 1. I love helping others right now this niche is very stressed with bill payments, learning and studying
So they don't have a pile of debt like their parents maybe even grandparents when they are out of school.
2. I hope they can start work life debt free
3. Internet is something they were born into so it's easy for them
Thanks for your feedback
I'm a freelance musician in two unfashionable genres and get by on that, but I want to have enough financial freedom to be able to dabble in other arts as well without worrying about the next rent payment.
I figured lots of people are in the same boat, so wondering about starting an e-zine using my experiences to help artists and musicians to be able to afford to do what they love, not what they're told.
Does that work?
Onward and upward!
I am my target market. A mum, kids, know of the possibilities of a digital life but just not sure what to do or how to go about making it happen. Desperate to break free from the 9-5.
I get a lot of the thought process:) I went through my history on my laptop and found all my google searches when I was looking at making money online. Lots of great keywords I picked up.
I have a great idea for a lead magnet so I can build a list to connect with potential prospects...1 of the many ways I intend on promoting WA. The ideas just keep coming..I think I am on the right track.
Please re-direct me if I am not.
My direction is just like the example listed. I want to help others succeed and grow with them in the process. I am concerned about my title though and I have also unpublished my website until I am on track. I would love your input Kyle on my beginnings. I’m also having some website building issues and could use some help. But I need a little reassurance on my website name to start. As u pointed out your choice was hip and cool. My now seems long and boring 😂 I don’t know if I’m over thinking it. I’m going to include an attachment so you can view it. Thank you and all comments:suggestions are welcome.
One question though - A keyword is a phrase and it needs to be backed up by a clause to make sense in the headline of the post. So if my low competition keyword is- Learn Affiliate Marketing Step by Step than in order to complete it I have to add a clause to the headline of my article.
So can my headline be - Learn Affiliate Marketing Step by Step, to become a successful affiliate marketer ? So that it makes full sense grammatically and can be a headline of my website's post. By doing this am I still targeting the keyword or not ?
This is at the top of my screen when I open general settings for the All In One SEO Pack. Do I allow it or do not allow it?
I know we should Target one keyword per Post. My question is can we insert most of the researched keywords we get From That Keyword to increase the possibilities of people clicking. I 'm just thinking not everyone will type that one keyword or keyword phrase. But others might click on other low competition ones Related to it that we reached ? Is the focus of our keyword research to include the ones we Found that make sense and low completion From the main one ?........Scotty B 🎵
i need to know what or the dference between these choices and what i will be doing how much time will i need for each to make any money witch one is faster to earn etc ...
i have so many questions woudnt be possible to someone to talk to me to help me decide? is there a person willing to talk to me to clear all my questions so i decide ?if not cna i change from one to the other or do both help
I have already applied the two plugins and they have been successfully applied.
However, the "All In One SEO Pack still doesn't appear.
Can someone suggest what I need to do?

I help single Women (and a few good single men) who want to succeed at affiliate marketing.
Specifically: I want to help women and men who have never been married, don’t have children, who are in their mid to late thirties going into their forties.
They want to be Happily Single, Not be socially isolated, Become Financially Free, Live Life Fully Now, and Prepare for being Happily Married or establish a strong community of friends/family if they choose to stay single longer.
Your thoughts?
This IS the best I've found out there. There is no other system, community, or program quite like this. I am extremely thrilled to be a part of something so awesome and to have the opportunity to share this opportunity with those like me looking for a way out of the rat race.
It's my goal to see all of you guys in Vegas!!! I'm looking to do 300 my first year out.
So... If any of you Rock Stars have any advice on how to accomplish this. Please share cause I am more that eager to learn.
As an ex director/Man Dir/Chairman of a manufacturing company, what has that got to do with online/affiliate marketing. Nothing.
So how does that background give me any credibility in affiliate mkt to attract my fans.
Any comments/advice welcome
What do you think of it guys ?
Thanks,
Dina:)
I own my name as a domain and was thinking of using it and calling myself... "Digital Fireman Affiliate"
My Direction is "Helping Affiliate Marketers" who are struggling to find success and people who are new and want to get started (The right way) online.
Any and all opinions are appreciated!
Firstly thanks for another very helpful training on writing reviews following CIAO.
I have a question here;
Where can I find the current WA Ratings for Trainings, Support, Website Builder etc? (You have these rankings for 2017 in this training).
I would like to include the Overview & Ranking as part of my 2019 Wealthy Affiliate Review but am not sure where I can get these facts (current rankings) from.
I hope I am making sense here :)

Do I create a site for the niche of like "work from home, etc"?
Please explain if I lost something along the way.
Thanks in advance.
To bring you up to speed: I'm retired (so fixed income that's less than I'd like); I'll be 76 in the spring (so old, but in relatively good health and I believe I still have my wits about me); I'm totally not a 'techie' (I have trouble navigating around Facebook and Instagram, etc.); I'm determined to learn and overcome my technical limitations and develop a lucrative affiliate marketing business.
The segment of the population I want to reach out to are retirees, people approaching retirement and empty nesters-all of whom have or will soon have additional time on their hands and many of whom would like to generate extra income by operating their own businesses.
I think this is a niche I can be successful with if I can lead by example.
I have given some thought to my brand. Pondered many options including money tree (we'd all like one), cash cow, cookie jar, piggy bank, and a few more conventional names. Decided (for the moment anyway) that I kind of like: Apple Tree Affiliate. Apple has a successful, prosperous connotation about it (attributed in part to the corporate giant and to Apple records back in the Beatle days). It's also a household word: apple a day keeps the doctor away; apple pie, etc. Tree represents deep rooted longevity and strength. Together, Apple Tree yields a desirable recurring crop (similar to the recurring benefits of affiliate marketing). Just thoughts at the moment.
Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Those last few paragraphs can help us all set benchmarks and measure our progress as long as we keep some level of commitment to achieving our goals.
Success to all!

I didn't do a Wealthy Affiliate review per se, but a review of an online shopping site that I had some experience with. However I did include links to Affiliate marketing & WA in particular.
I want to change the title of my home page from "Blog" to something else, but haven't figured it out yet. Plus I hope to change my site theme later.
Thanks and continuing success to all . . .
Whew!!!!!!!
Very educational and really easy to understand. I just completed updating the tile and meta description for the "home page" of my newest project. And I am super EXCITED about moving forward. I just LUV you guys here at WA. I thought you might want to hear that. Have a GREAT one. :-)
I just started the Boot Camp....duh. My site would be so much further ahead.
I truly believe 500 people want to join me this year in obtaining another trip to Las Vegas. We are taking our son and his partner to Vegas for his 21st birthday.
Furthermore those folks will be joining a wonderful community of learners and teachers, mentors and mentees!
Best wishes to all.
As always, let me know if I can help.
Just a quick question: Before this lesson I had to do keyword research and get 5 keywords. How does this tie in with the WA review I am going to write and to rank for the article - should I incorporate my researched keywords in my review? Is the title to be researched too or just taken from popular search terms on products?
It doesn't say that I should incorporate my researched keywords but then I am a bit confused for which keywords I am supposed to rank - Is it all about the title then?
Thank you in advance.
John
My chosen niche for this campaign is making money online for people with a disability and seniors or retirees looking for an opportunity.
As I have a physical disability and approaching 65 yrs of age, I can relate and learning to connect with both of these groups.
Any suggestions on how to maximise this campaign will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
My chosen audience is 'passive income seekers' and that could be anyone looking for a passive income, stay at home moms like me included.
I then did a Keyword search using Jaaxy for "passive income seekers" and of the many keywords found in the search, I chose the keywords "online passive income" which had - Searches 160, Traffic 28, QSR 132.
Finally, I went to google and searched for "How to make online passive income" (that is putting my keywords in question form) and I got about 25 results.
This looks to me like most of the criteria for choosing my niche direction are met.
I am sharing how I used the training to find my niche direction with the aim of helping other as I progress.
Many thanks.
1 - Do I only get paid for referals if I am a premium member myself?
2 - As I understood, if someone I referred does not switch to premium, I only get 1 dollar if he/she finishes setting up the account, is that correct?
3 - If someone switches to premium for, lets say, a year membership. I get commission for this year. What about next year? Do I still get commission even if that person decides NOT to renew his/her premium? Or I only get commission if a premium is renewed?
Thank you all and have a nice day.
Now the question is what to call my website. I've never been good at coming up names. Newcareeraffiliates.com just occurred to me. Anyone care to chime in with an opinion before I take the plunge?
Please provide any suggestions with my direction and brand. Thank you!

It's valid until november 2019 and currently at Namecheap and I can push it to your account for free.
Anyone interested?
Just another WordPress site
How do I get rid of that??
Thanks in advance for your help Margot.
By default, my robo nofollow thingy is already unchecked.
thanks for advice!
The only thing hold me to continue what I started here is the knowledge and the community.
This was my post today and these are my goals:
I am lost at how to go about my niche
Last Update: December 22, 2018
I have been doing my training sessions and moving forward with my website but the posts have been only blogs( reading material).
With that being said my niche is bringing facts to my community about the corrupt justice system and programming(which we lack) for at risk teens.
I don't know what more to do aside from telling the truth(blogging). Ultimately I want to use page to generate money but i don't know how to do it with this particular niche i am at a standstill. What should I do??
I wanted to learn how to build my own website so that i can get locals informative of the unjust in our system and the no funding for programs needed as well as being able to make a side income to.
Can someone please give me some advice and point me in the right direction??
My family and I adopted 4 children out of foster care. My grown daughter adopted 2 children from foster care. I'm very passionate about the state that our country is in whereas so many children are being left parent-less because of drugs, economics, death etc.
Can you offer direction?
niche idea 1
personally i have a passion for change. being involved in gangs for over 20 years ultimately being sentenced to a 25 years to life in prison (my case was overturned on appeal). It's been over 10 years. i have changed my life 3000 80%. as a result of practicing reiki, ho oponono, law of attraction, meditation and other modalities i have transformed my life. having these spiritual/mental tools i believe that sharing these methods and information is a part of me
i'm a proud father now, have owned multiple small business with success and am a reiki master.
second niche idea
my first successful business was as a personal trainer and gym owner. i loved being a positive influence while helping my clients transform there life and reach there fitness goal. so i have a passion for fitness and health
third niche idea
affiliate marketing, although i just started and haven't made a dime i have fallen in love with the concept and idea of reaching 1000's of people online and helping them attain what they want, need and love while being able to support my family..
so im not sure which to choose. i also thought about maybe combining them, -- fitness, self help/spirituality and making money online.
thoughts please
and thank you in advance
namaste
What do you think about that idea? I hate to waist it and my folders on Pinterest are already designed around making money online and affiliate marketing.
Or would it motivate me more to have a site I'm really proud of to get traffic coming my way?
Maybe its not that easy... and I should just work on both slowly and iteratively.
Thoughts?
I'm finding that I want to connect with people inclined to start into MLM, Network Marketing, and High Ticket programs - or buy all these tools recommended to them (like I was...) but instead show them that they would make the most of those programs with ACTUAL online marketing experience/training (traffic) like they would learn at Wealthy Affiliate.
I want to help people who have gone down the "MLM, Network Marketing, and High Ticket program, etc" routes to simply LEARN the skill of marketing themselves instead of relying on a 'product/recruiting' company to teach them marketing and how to do online business.
Does that sound like a good direction?
Or maybe I'm still trying to get MYSELF "Woke." Or maybe "what you think 'woke' is" is really just a mindless trance you're too happy to see, in which case 'waking' would be bad ... ?
However, I know how much I have been struggling as a single mom and trying to have an online business to help me raise my daughter, and feel that affiliate marketing is very good for stay home moms, but because I don`t know how to actually write about it and sounding passionate about it makes me a little worried.
Anyway, I named my site Money Mine Online, as in becoming an affiliate marketer is a way to be mining money online...I thought it sounds tempting. What do you all think?
Thanks
To promote WA should I have a complete separate website or would it work as part of my cooking website with a "here's how to take back control of your time so you can cook" kind of message?
Thank you guys for any inputs!
Gael
I have already watched the video twice, and expect that I will repeat watching to have get a good foundation in keyword research and how to benefit from it as I continue to grow in affiliate marketing.
Personally, I came here looking for a legitimate way to first supplement and then hopefully take over as my primary source of income. That is who I want to target. Other people like me.
"There is a quick search feature available to you right within the Jaaxy menu. You simply click on the menu and it will hope up the submenu, with the search available right within it." - don't get what does "hope" mean here.

Fitness and language are profitable industries which are hyper-competitive.
How much you earn matter, but more importantly is who you become.
I would like to become affiliate of a more narrow niche in personal development products/services.
I am considering become Brian Tracy/ T Harv Eker/other name brand affiliate.
Any other better ideas?
Sincerely,
Elaine
I'm kind of stuck here and don't know how to go forward.
Back to the daily grind tomorrow, Even after 10 hours there, I am finding this interesting enough to put in an hour or two after work. Like your work kyle.
Lots to do!
I am planning to build a site to help people making a perfect fullpage sceencapture by using chrome and other tools, cause I haven't seen a perfect solution ... I think my solution is the best:)
I just researched about keywords about this on Jaaxy, I found that the avg, qsr are both fine
could you please give me some advise ? thank you so much!
I would like to help people find a source of additional income part-time or full-time income online or also shared with them my own experience working full time and a part-time job out in the field and now working toward an online business with WA.
I'd like to reach to a variety of groups that may be interested in building their online business.
Cheers,
Ana
I guess if you are comfortable with a broader brand, and if you can provide content for it, it's nice to have a wide branding.
What is your option: a broad or narrow brand (like affiliate marketing)?
Best regards,
Christie
My 1st website will be my WA affiliate site. Is it okay in my About Me page to mention my affiliation with Wealthy Affiliate?
As a premium member, do I get an email address with my domain? If not, and I create and add a gmail address, can I change that address later when I get a domain linked email address?
Thanks . . .
